I have seen many videos where Filipinos mention being so poor that they had to eat corn grits instead of rice. I'm curious, in Dumaguete area how many pesos for kg rice vs. corn grits?
I'm retired and spending at least 8 hours a day watching youtube videos in the last 10 years,, and I have yet to see one of those many videos. What I know is that in Cebu province, which is one of the riches provinces in the Philippines, some people prefer eating corn than rice as their culture. The price of corn grains is about 1/3 the price of rice. My late father was a village head and had a rice farm in a 3rd class town so I know the life of the poorest of the poor. The Philippines is visited yearly by about 20 typhoons. In cases when the rice fields are severely damaged before harvest time, then there are short-term rice shortages and surges in rice prices. In such event, the poorest may prefer to cook rice with corn or just cook corn. This temporary situation is sometimes used by NPA communist rebel propagandists, anti-government politicians or youtube vloggers as a normal occurrence to advertise their self-serving agenda. I spent 27 years in the Philippines and only witnessed 2 severe rice shortage events that forced the poorest in the village to eat corn grains instead of rice.

You are exactly right. We are waiting for my wife to have her visa interview now. Then she will come to USA for 4 or 5 years. Then we will build our home on the property we already bought in the Philippines.

Can't help but wonder how different some of these young women lives would be if only they were fortunate to have college education with decent jobs as careers. Realistically, for many due to extremely poor family backgrounds & circumstances it is virtually impossible to pull oneself up by the boot straps. Life is hard, tough, and in many cases afford very little options for getting ahead which then causes decades age gap relationships more appealing or almost irresistible for both parties involved. As humans we shouldn't be so quick to judge, but have compassion on the shoes the other is walking in. Some situations may not be what's considered as ideal, but even life itself has its extremes that must that Millions taste and struggle with daily all over the world. We don't live in a perfect world, with everyone being born with a silver spoon in their mouth. We individually have to find and make life as best and peaceful as possible with what we have to work with. It comes down to what makes a person happy, a couple happy, a family happy. Overall this is how I see this family, not the decades of age gap. They're doing what makes life happy for themselves, and that should be admired. Keep that smile on your new born face ( and your husband also by always thanking him for all he's brought to your life). 🙏

I believe marriages should have an age gap of less than 10 years. Couples are meant to raise their children together and then have grandchildren, and eventually grow old together.. Cannot happen with a 40 year age difference. However, to each their own. Everyone should have their own beliefs.
