They absolutely did! My gma always talked about how her ma broke after her 6th baby. Had 3 more after but she was absolutely unstable and abusive. Over worked, over stimulated, undersupported ... when she got mad she'd chase them with a rolling pin or butcher knife and she was serious. Folks really underestimate the role hormones play in not only our mental health but our health overall. I had 2 babies back to back and I am forever altered. That lady who had post partum in the early 2000's in the USA is still in a mental health facility isn't she? And she was basically forced to give birth to her last baby by her now ex husband, had post partum and schizophrenia.
