One thing that Band Maid incorporates in their songs that is so effective is their use of pauses between choruses (and bridges) to give the song more drama and impact.

It's funny you mentioned "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." Mozart wrote *Twelve Variations on "Ah vous dirai-je, Maman"* (K. 265/300e) which shows that you can have a lot of fun with something simple and child-like. If anyone thinks I'm joking, look it up! Listen to it!
"Don't you tell ME" is from the 2017 album "Just Bring It" which was the first album that was predominately their own compositions. Most of that album sticks pretty close to the A-B-A-B-C-B forms (but, like Mozart, the second A-B is developed). The recording is from last November.

If you pay attention to what the Maids do with their songwriting, to me, it reminds me of the Zac Brown Band.
Enjoying the song in a comfortable place, but then there’s a little chord change, a strategic rest, or some other unexpected Easter egg. Then you can truly appreciate how much they put into a seemingly “simple” song

The lead singer Saiki absolutely owned this crowd. Owned them! Never seen her so animated. Glorious. . She could have asked anybody in the crowd to go get her a sandwich and they would have.. Maybe her best live performance. Did I mention the Misa vs Kanami battle? So so good.

I love musicians reacting to Band-Maid. Each, like you, bring their own experience to the reaction. Just keep being you. During the year you were doing other things Band-Maid released 8 new videos. You have now done 2. I'd suggest for a MV "From Now On," which is an instrumental, and for a live "Puzzle" which was from their 10th anniversary tour kick-off concert. The 2 you've done so far are from that tour's final concert.

Absolutely do "From Now On", the music video (and "Puzzle" -- especially if you can also find the acoustic version)

This song is from an earlier Band-Maid. Until Screaming and Different. The writing and playing amped up then, and now they really are on a different level.

Yes, Kanami has, since then, unleashed her inner Kanami.

Particularly on older songs Miku sings the melody an octave lower. It's fine to say BAND-MAID have a great understanding of how to structure songs in interesting ways and then executing them excellently. Because that's what they do.

Misa was studying sound production when she met Akane at college. With each album release Band-Maid has taken on more and more studio production responsibility and they are all very picky about the mix, arguing about the mix. 10 months ago, when Band-Maid released "Puzzle" live from Tokyo Garden Theater, they re-uploaded the track several times, seemingly in response to complaints about the mix: not enough bass and drums! The final upload is still one of my Go-To cuts.
Maidiacs are used to Band-Maid's heavy bass and drums and they like it, but Band-Maid likes variety and they don't want to do the same thing over and over. "Don't you tell me" was no. 8 of 33 songs on their set list for the Yokohama Arena tour final. Every member of the band had multiple star turns during this three and a half hour long concert. Misa and Akane were heard as much as the rest of the band with plenty of solos!

Jules you've got a unique "flavor" to your analysis parts that's different from anybody else, really enjoy it.
One thing I've come to listen for are the keyboard washes, siren-ey "wheeeooops," and the final transition white noise swell that Kanami put on the backing track behind the guitar-bass duel. Everything's perfectly placed and yet surprisingly random; maybe part of the reason so many people make Pink Floyd comparisons there.

A slightly unconventional request, Unfair Game - Band maid. "Side B" of the single Yolo, a little old (2016), but one of their best songs in my opinion, unfortunately still little known.

Unless you have already done it check out their official video of Thrill. Very good instrumental. From what I understand it is the video that really pushed their career.

Nice reaction. As always I enjoyed it (you do not talk too much).
The concert is recent (late last year), the song is a bit old, from the "Just Bring It" album, so about 7 years ago when they were just starting to write songs all by themselves. Their music was simpler then.

Don't You Tell Me! Oh, wait! You just did. 🤘😂Thx, Jules! btw, interesting factoid: Some say the Carolina Reaper is the hottest chili pepper with a Scoville Heat Index of 2.2 million. Nope! It's Band-Maid with a whopping 194 Million View index! 🌶🤘🎀

Yes, Miku's vocals are a bit buried, but she is also singing in a very low register.

Backup vocals in the verse aren't a harmony, so it may be harder to hear. Miku doubles the lead but an octave down

    • @JulesTheHuman
      @JulesTheHuman  Před 5 měsíci

Definitely wasn't listening for a low octave, they always do harmony so I was trying to find that! Lol

Kanami quotes "From now on" in her solo, then Misa quotes Kanami.
They added some fun squealing synth noises in the background of the guitar and bass solos.
No reactions to Hanabie on this channel yet? That needs to be fixed. Any of their videos would be a good choice.

No need to apologise for how much you speak. People come to hear intelligent musical discussion of Band-Maid. If we only want to the hear the original music, we can listen to the official video and not watch a reaction. You are a musician; you have something useful to say.
