  • Mobility Direct is now offering Lithium Upgrades for almost all mobility scooters! Call 866 935 1069
    In this video, we take out the standard 40ah sealed lead acid battery and replace it with a Lithium battery half its size! The Dakota Lithium 23ah battery! And to our amazement, it outperformed the larger battery while doing a full-speed test! This is something that is unheard of in the Mobility Industry and below are three reasons why. The victory sport used in this test normally has a max range of 11miles, with our downgrade to the smaller size we did 14miles at 7 miles per hour!
    UPDATE
    For Pride Mobility Scooters ONLY, if you have a brand new scooter or your scooter is still under the manufacturer's warranty this will void your warranty. We know that our battery Warranty is much longer than the scooters, so just give us a call whenever you are ready!
    #1 No one else is testing batteries at full speed!
    #2 We are the only Dealer offering direct lithium upgrades!
    #3 Who removes larger batteries to get more distance? MobilityDirect.com
    We have heard the question from our customers, how can I get more distance out of my current scooter? The answer is to change your standard SLA battery to the MobilityDirect Lithium upgrade, the will replace your current battery so there is no need for extra hardware, you just need to change it to a Lithium Charger. Did you change the battery parameters in the scooter's controller to be for the LiFePo4 batteries you're using? If not, you should because then the scooter's built-in battery charge indicator would (in theory) be accurate for the LiFePo4 batteries that you upgraded to.

      I have not had a chance to mess With the battery meters yet, For the most part they show a full charge until they're empty. The issue we're having is all these scooters have technology from 10 to 20 years ago and it's hard to integrate. Let me know if you have any success

    Cheers for the video, do you know if these type of batteries would be suitable as a drop in replacement for a Sterling Sapphire 2. All I keep seeing is people mentioning potential battery balancing problems for charging when used in series in a scooter. Thanks in advance.

      For balancing, you need to charge it once every two to three months on a Dakota lithium charger

    In the summer where I live it gets 120 in the garage, the Pride scooter rejects the charge at that temp. How are these batteries? I have fought the HOA to let me put AC in the garage, I put in for AC again with the new management.

      Correct, now rember i tested at full speed, at half speed probably 24mile

    • @charleyb4424
      @charleyb4424 Před 2 lety

      Actually, I don't think full vs half speed will affect range much because lithium batteries don't have much Peukert Effect. That means the capacity of a lithium battery is not much affected by current load. So driving slower would only slightly increase range with a lithium battery. It's irrelevant anyway because no one is going to drive long distance at half speed.

    What is the price of these batteries?

  • @charleyb4424
    @charleyb4424 Před 2 lety

    Oh ya, I already removed the speed limit from my scooter's controller. This had no effect because the voltage of my AGM batteries is the limiting factor. However, when I install LiFePo4 batteries, they will have 7% to 10% higher voltage. So I expect LiFePo4 will give me a 7% to 10% increase in speed.
    Edited in Later: I am staying with my Powersonic PDC AGM batteries. They're good and are the best available for my scooter. LiFePo4 upgrade is not practical for me because my battery box physical layout requires two 12V batteries in series to make 24V system. For LiFePo4 the two batteries would not stay balanced.
    To have a good, workable upgrade to LiFePo4 batteries, your scooter needs to have a battery box with one battery compartment that's large enough to hold one 24V LiFePo4 battery.

      Where would I find speed limiter on a buzzaround LX 3wheel Bro .?

    • @charleyb4424
      @charleyb4424 Před 2 lety +3

      @@tonyrodriguez9163 There is no physical speed limiter on Buzzaround scooters (or most mobility scooters). The speed limiter is just a software setting in the scooter's controller (onboard computer) software. I changed the setting in my XLS-HD from 85% to 100%. This allows my scooter to go 100% of the speed that it's capable of. Now my limiting factor for speed is my batteries' voltage under load. The best performing batteries I've found are Powersonic PDC.
