What to Eat in Kaimuki! || [Kaimuki, Oahu, Hawaii] Legendary, To-Go!
Who here remembers when the diner originally was King’s Bakery coffee shop?!!!
Yes! We loved to go to King's Bakery for breakfast before work! Oh the memories! ❤
Once upon a time, the restaurant upstairs in the Kaimuki Shopping Center used to be a Columbia Inn. Before that, I forget... And you guys was at Kapaolono Park! Literally, almost my backyard, dude!
Whoa!! Nice!🤙🏻 yes!! Columbia Inn! I thought that was the name but then I was thinking what kind of inn would that be?! Lol
@@AmandaFelixEats If I'm not mistaken, it also used to be King's Bakery Restaurant. That was over 30 years ago.
I miss Columbia Inn. They had location on Kapiolani too. Good ol days
I also graduated from Kalani when I grew up in Aina Haina. My two boys went to Kaimuki Intermediate & graduated from Kalani. I remember going to the Crack Seed Store when your seeds were packaged in small brown bags. After I ate my seeds, I would chew on the bag to get out all the juices - fond memories 🥰
Love that so many of us locals have so many fond memories at crackseed stores! 🥰 Truly a locals only experience🤙🏼
Kaimuki was my old stomping grounds! Love Kaimuki ❤️
Kings bakery after Columbia Inn
Yes! Columbia Inn!
I'm a Kaimuki boy, thats Kapalono Park, used to play baton football at that park a long, long, long time ago.
P.S. That restaurant upstairs in the corner was Columbia Inn. So many OG eateries in Kaimuki are long gone I'll name a few for your OG subscribers ( Aotani's, Tanoue's, Cap's Drive-Inn, Tropics Bakery, Choice Bakery, 9th Avenue Bakery, Bakery Europa, Kaimuki Inn, W & M, Hung Kung Chinese Restaurant, Henry Lee's Market, King's Garden, Kaimuki Bowl, Sonny & Mike's, Viking Restaurant, Ed's & Don's Icecream)
and so much more, this was my childhood.
Wow, that beautiful egg sandwich! It looks like someone made it and handed it to you with so much love. And so jealous of your cherries shirt, Amanda!! Sell something like it with your logo as merch!!
The new SAKURA flavor from Asato is my favorite 🤩 made with dehydrated Sakura flowers
We live in Tennessee, but from Oahu. Your use of "y'all" is so cute! We love y'all, and keep a list of all the places to visit while we are on island!!
Best episode I've seen so far. Love that you guys featured seeds. And the Icee floats... OMG, I can't wait to come home to try them! Hawaii has the BEST snacks!
Amanda, that Diner you mentioned, that was a favorite late evening stop after Night Diving South Shore. Loved there simple bowl of Dashi, after a night diving, a hot bowl of Dashi just hit the spot. Another excellent post you two!....Go team GO!!!
Cherry video... Action Grindz🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
The "cho cho" lip action😂😂😂... Love your guys vids... Now I'm hungry...lol
Amanda do you remember the Kaimuki Inn restaurant? If not, maybe your parents remember the restaurant. It was one of the best restaurants in the area. I also loved KC Drive with their waffle dog and peanut butter shakes! I like Seikiya across from Kaimuki High too! Those were my OG places from my first vacations to Oahu. Another restaurant that closed that we miss was King’s Coffee Shop. We have a King’s restaurant and bakery in Torrance. So many places that have come and gone. Sick good memories!
I don't remember Kaimuki Inn but I remember Victoria Inn on 12th ave! Also, my dad used to work at Sekiyas in the early 90s! So much memories in Kaimuki!
OMG!! My wife and I were watching the both of you eat the menchi burger, the crack seeds, the bento boxes and the floats and we had to wear bibs as our mouths were salivating. Mahalo for another great food video!!
Everything was soo ono!🤤
Have mercy! Those bentos look so ono kine grindz! Y'all are so wonderful for bringing da best to us that can't be there. Mahalo to the bambucha!
Mahalo for always watching and supporting Robert Leslie🤙🏻
Oh man, a sando shop that looks legit!! Plus next doors bento spot looks good too! Perfect for beach or a day out!!! Love the crack seed too! Have you been to wholesale unlimited? Their creamy ume (?) i think that was the name, is good!! I wanna try those frozen desserts too! I hope their business takes off so i can try it at Foodland one day!!! 👍🏿💕
Columbia inn. Awesome restaurant . the chop steak and. Teri beef was my favorite 😀👍
Egg Sando! Menchi Katsu! Bentos! and Crackseeds! You are killing me! New eats, cheap eats, OG eats and GOOD EATS. I’m loving this bubbly couple. Thanks Amanda&Felix😘😘
Hi Felix and Amanda, I just want to say thank you for sharing your great foodie experience. I use to live on Oahu and I miss it so much. You guys are great!
So glad you enjoy the videos and we’re happy to bring you along with us! 🤙🏻
I went to summer fun at Kapalono Park in the late 60's. Also attended the nearby Liholiho Elementary. Nice to see those big trees. Egg salad sandwich looks awesome. That was pretty funny about cleaning all the mui off the seed.
Kapaolono Park. Basketball Courts! Good thing you got a tablecloth. Thanks for sharing these interesting places to try. Gotta take the wife to the Crack Seed Store. She has not experienced one yet. Just Chinatown and Mexican Markets. Hi to the Vonns; ya missed out. I'm Full. Thank You
Amanda, i use to go to Nautilus in Kaimuki to work out in the late 70's to early 80's. Loved to eat at Kim Chee 2. Joined the Army from the recruiting office in Kaimuki
Amanda and Felix! The Diner Upstairs was Columbia Inn Kaimuki. We loved the Columbia Inns until the Family Sold it. Was not the same, and the new owners of the Kaimuki
one eventually went out of business. Flamingos, Columbia Inn, Okinawan giants! Gone! The Bento place also used to be a Hibiscus Korean Restaurant that was a local Korean
and his Korean Wife. They made great Korean Food! Since they moved out of Aina Haina - they lost a lot of their Clientele. We used to Buy it at Aina Haina and eat at the Park
where you had your Birthday! Will try the Bento place! Great Videos.
My mouth is watering watching u guys grind the crack seed
Did everyone’s mouth water when they tasted the white lihing mui? I’m guilty!😋
So ono🤤🤤🤤
Thank you for your tip. We are in town and went to Kaimuki Crack seed store and bought my favorite seeded rock salt. Before we fly back home, going back to buy more!! 🤙🏼😃
coffee shop upstairs was columbia inn
That's it literally we going tmro 👍👍👍👍
You guys were at Kapalono park w the tennis court basketball court and pool
Yes!! Such a great park!
My favorite preserved seed is from Sun Cheong on Hotel Street across Maunakea Market. I like the seedless Super Sweet Li Hing Mui. It is definitely sweet and slightly salty. Comes in a small (7 oz.?) and large (13 oz.?) sized bag. I go through 1 large bag every 2 months. Gotta try the Asato desserts. They looked good, even melted!
Asato family was ono! Especially with the li hing and sour lemon peel mixed inside! SO much nostalgia🤙🏼
Amanda!!! Kalani 09 here :)
So happy for you & this journey!! You guys should do a coffee & pastry day in kaimuki 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 this is my zone and I love all the places you hit in this video.
Red.
Li hing kaki mochi is addicting.
Hi Amanda and Felix great videos.hopefully u guys make it to paniolos at kahala mall one day
Interesting content lots of different food. I never did Kaimuki much when I lived in Honolulu, except I went to Kaimuki Theatre for Japanese Chambara Samurai movies. The Egg Sanda looked good, but I love the crust. My favorite was the two bentos, I'm a bento kind of guy. Especially the Fish bento, everything looked good. Love Saba and Miso Butterfish. I don't know about the fancy sherbert, I've been eating Tasaka Guri Guri since small kid time and it's the best. Mahalo and Aloha.
Definitely check out Higoto bento! Very high quality and ono🤤 If you want to try some fun guriguri flavors, Asato Family is really good and the flavors are so much fun! Hope you can check them out🤙🏼
Yey! Your videos are my connection back to the islands. I miss Hawaii, especially the food. Keep up the great content guys!!!! Aloha from WA.
Mahalo for watching and supporting April🤙🏻
I pray I run into you guys next month. That would be so awesome!! Another great Foodie Adventure!! 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Mahalo for supporting Walter🤙🏻
Icee is always a go to, but everything looked sooooo goood!! And yes, #chocholipaction! Das how you know it’s so ʻono 😋
😆😆😆 He always cho cho lipping the food😱 LOL
Aloha Amanda & Felix. All of the food (and slushy drink) looked good. I remember enjoying when I was younger eating salted plum/prune that were individually wrapped in a white/blue wrapper (I would get them from an Asian grocery). Mahalo for showing so many interesting places to try. I hope things are well out there. Looking forward to your next vlog, have a great week.
Omg! I used to love those plum prune things!! As a kid not many people liked that but I loved it too! Yay🥳 lol Mahalo for continuing watching and supporting Paula🤙🏻
@@AmandaFelixEats: Those would be "chun pi mui" and I grew up on those too!
My fav would be the Asato family desserts.
Sooo ono🤤🤤🤤
Aloha you two ! The Japanese Sandos sandwich with strawberries look so Ono ! My mouth was watering watching the li hing sauce yummy goodness ! Asato family sherberts amazing flavors ! I love the white ling hing mui !Mahalo for the memories ...Hana Butta Days ...at the Crack Seed Store !Definitely OG ,Legendary , To Go !!!
“Reminds me of the Japanese childhood I never had.” 😂
LOL😆😆😆
Football is def OG!
Great video guys everything looked so ono from the bentos to the icee and the seeds had my mouth all 💧thanks for the spots
Glad you enjoyed the video! We're so happy to show some awesome spots🤙🏼
Totally OG! In the neighborhood where my grandparents lived. May have gone to that park. Mahalo for getting the football. Remember it as smaller and the skin smoother, but it's not too salty, sweet or spicy, so just right for kids. ; ) Makes me so ono for guriguri! The sandos looked like vlogs from Japan especially the egg salad and strawberry ones. Sure they wish they had the menchi katsu one. ; )
Oh I love the dried fruits! Thanks for the fabulous video. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Yay Canada!!🥳 do they have crack seed stores there? Mahalo for watching and supporting Henry🤙🏻
Hi Amanda and Felix, great to connect and thanks again for the great videos. We don’t have traditional crack seeds speciality stores in Saskatoon (central Canada). But we can buy some packaged traditional dried fruits from most Asian stores. There are a few super crack seeds stores with numerous selections in Vancouver BC. Thanks for your fabulous food reporting from Hawaii. Your channel is kind, chill and interesting also it brings the world closer with food and smiles. All the best & Cheers from 🇨🇦 Henry
Wow, this brings back memories. Felix you are so funny. I like Amanda’s reference to your lips when you were eating 😂.
Aloha thank you for the another awesome video👍🏽👍🏽 keep on keeping on🤙🏽🤙🏽
Always! Mahalo for supporting!🤙🏼
@7:35 diner was called Columbia Inn. Miss that place so classic.
Great vlog guys great too see you both see ya in the next one
Mahalo Terry Elliot🤙🏻🤙🏻
That's a great park with a great view! My wife and I are Tamura's poke there when we visited in May! Awesome video guys!
Tamura's at the park with this view, whats not to love🤤❤️
Thanks so much for reviewing Higoto, we really enjoyed the food and the butter fish was to die for.
I prefer the white sweet li hing mui😋. I like that you can order kaimuki crackseed online now. Keep it coming, thank you!!
Lol. Glad you were brave to try the football. I agree looked a lot drier than what I remember and the ones I've eaten were sweet and crunchy. Never heard of Li hing syrup in the icee. Might have to try that. Try pronouncing it "wur stir shur"
If you like li hing flavor, the syrup in the Icee is a game changer! I guess it really is a Kaimuki secret😱 Hope you can try it out one day!
Li hing mui! Huiiii!
You had me at “cho-cho” lip 🤣🤣🤣
Hey Amanda and Felix! Love this video. The crack seed store reminds us of snacks we used to call collectively as "mui"
that we used to enjoy growing up. My wife Judy and my goto mui are dried cherry and king mui. Also when we have trouble saying worcestershire sauce we like to call it "where's your sister" sauce : ) All your grindz look delicious! Ice cream varieties looked yummy too!
Ooh cool! Where are you from? That's so interesting! We love the dried cherries too! So ono! Would love to try the "mui" from where you're from!
Just watched the new blog. Awesome. I can't wait as we will be flying to HNL tomorrow!
Mmmm that burger looks delish!
I love Kakimochi so much…..I eat it every Arare.
I love this place!!! One of the last crack seed stores!!!! I hope they never close! There actually was a seed called cracked seed and you did have to spit out the seeds! Wasn’t my fav because of that! lol
I'm with Amanda..prefer the WHITE li hing mui too! 🤤
Aloha you two ! Got the message on Utube ...Praying for Felix that he will get well soon ! Take care & God Bless !
As usual guys, awesome job! Da mix fish bento looks ono! Get to 20k subs! Mahalo nui for supporting locals! Much aloha 😎🤙🏾
That park was my go to place for lunch before class at KCC lol
9pm on the east coast here. Exclusive drops yall!
🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻mahalo John!! Sorry so late!
@@AmandaFelixEats No worries its right on time 🤙
Amanda you’re so pretty! Can you make you’re own channel with fashion/makeup tips?
Aww! You're the sweetest🥰
Columbia inn! Need to try coco bloom!
Yes, Columbia Inn😊 Coco Bloom's menchi katsu burger was ono🤤
Oooo congrats on the collab with Asato Family! I barely go to Kaimuki but its good to know what's good especially the sandos!! Also I guess I not local enough, putting ling hing in the arare. I love my chocolate chip arare cookies tho.
Love that Kaimuki Crack Seed and Asato Family did a collab! Both local spots we enjoy supporting! 🤙🏼
Cho-cho lips 😂 never hear that one long time 😊. Hope to run into y’all cruising around 😉.
OMG I want to try all the li hing mui sherbet! 😋😋
CHO CHO LIP ACTION! HAHAHA! Brah, you can tell when something is really 'ono just by da look on Felix's face when he takes a bite. So li hing mui, I like both da white and da red, except sometimes da red li hing mui is too sour for me. That lemon peel Icee looked MEAN though! Growing up in Waipahu, I missed out on all these places town side.... Also, I usually call da kakimochi "mochi crunch" haha. Oh wow, and those sherbets! MEAN!!!!
Hahah! Always cho cho lip action on all the food😱 Would love to hear places in Waipahu to check out for these types of food! Let us know🤙🏼
@@AmandaFelixEats you guys just went to my old stomping grounds, Leeward Drive In, last month. Funny thing was, we was in Hawai'i then! A lot of da places we used to grind at in Waipahu is gone now. Leeward's and Tanioka's is basically the only ones I used to go that's left. I guess I still go to Far East Chop Suey whenever we are back in da 'aina.
Aye it's my neighborhood! Love Kaimuki 'cause its got a lot of good eateries and the ambiance is still like "old Hawaii" :) Also, that park is Kapalono Park (I walk by there every day ;) )
Hi Amanda and Felix, will try and go to that Crack seed store in Kaimuki on my next visit in Hawaii. So excited! I saw some of the my fav snacks growing up in that store. 🤙🏼
I was gonna say I thought the old man closed down that crack seed shop. We used to come in from central side just to get some seeds there. Its nice to know your friends bought it to keep it going! I got a question about the fish bento, did any of the fish have any bones in it? My friend LOVES butterfly but don't eat it because too many bones. I wanna take her if they remove the bones.
Always enjoy your videos! Another suggestion for places to go is Sidestreet Inn!
Also want y’all to try the Korean corn dogs at Holy Cow in Ewa Beach!
Kapaolono park! And mmm yummy asatos! Just tried for the first time a week or 2 ago. Love your videos & my are you guys growing quickly! I’ve already went & tried a few places you guys have featured, It’s dangerous 😆
Columbia Inn! Red li hing mui > white li hing mui.
Wishing you guys much success on your channel!
A friend once made a li hing mui margarita for us to try and it was fantastic. He made the drink from the dry crack seeds. But I bet the juice/sauce from that packet will be good in the drink. You guys should do a review on local drinks.
been watching you since the beginning. so happy everytime you upload!! i miss hawaii so much
Awe man I thought I would be first to comment. Fine I’ll take second. Lol. - Lynda.
🥳Mahalo Lynda🤙🏻
Amanda....you have to explain to me what you mean when you tell Felix that he "cho-cho lipped it." Thanks for the great video again. Learned lots of things. Take care.
Sorry! We keep forgetting that not everyone understands local pidgin words😱
@@AmandaFelixEats
No worries! I wasn't sure what you had said and wanted to know what it meant. Thanks for responding!
Aren't the owners of Kaimuki Crack Seed Store also the owners of Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery in Chinatown? Do they sell manapua, too? BTW, It was around way before the two of you were born.
I played, Sr. Little League at Kapaolono. Mackey Feary used to hang around the park, too. It was also our practice field for both Junior AJA and AJA baseball, too.
A really, really long time ago, around the late 70's, there was a Guri Guri place on King St. and I think it was Hausten St. or in that general area.
Yes they are! We love their manapuas too! They don't sell manapua at the crack seed store though! So much nostalgia for younger and older foodies🤤
My dad liked a seed (he calls it HORSE DOO DOO) I think it's a seed with licorice. So kinda look like Horse doo doo with bits of hay.
Is that the one some people call rabbit doo doo? Haha!
OMG cho cho lip action😂
😆😆he always be liddat!
cheee!! 🤙🏾
🥳Mahalo John🤙🏻
I just discovered furikake mix (got a bag from Costco) omg so good!
Cho Cho lips??? 1st 4 me. 😁😉😊👋✌👍☝.
Where's da vonne??? Skool or working?
That was a funny video you guyz (y'all). 😆🤣😅😉
Da Von usually hard at work these days😰 We have her on some special episodes soon!
Kapaolono!
Yes!!🤙🏻
Guys do you have that link for those shoes you guys were sponsored by a while back? Thanks
You guys made me homesick! I grew up in "Upper Kahala" like Amanda. Hitting the crack seed shop next time in town. BTW, I've heard Worcestershire pronounced "Wooster". Keep up the good work!
I grew up more near Kapahulu but went to Kalani so very familiar with the are! Hope you can get your crack seed fix soon!🤙🏼
Hey Amanda n Felix thank you for taking me back to my hanabata days! I live in da mainland now and been away for long time. You guys just take me back in time even tho it’s 2021! Keep up the good work and Felix u gotta work on your jokes little harda! Jk ❤️u guys!
Kapāolono park I’m surprised I don’t know you guys I’m from Kapahulu
Columbia Inn❤️
Hello! I’m new to the channel. Love your content. Please do the KCC Farmer’s Market. 😘
I love crack seeds store! My fondest memory of crack seed was back in 1994. The very first time I visited HI, my cousins took me to a crack seed store in Aiea.
Aloha and welcome to our foodie ohana! Mahalo for watching and supporting!
We did a KCC video (czcams.com/video/ux-2Sw5wDgk/video.html) don't think too much has changed since then!🤙🏼
🔥🔥🔥
🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Hey guys I'm trying to find in your videos that sweet bread truck with the fillings, what is it called and where is it?
Aloha Ludin, its called Molokai Hot Bread! www.molokaihotbread.com/ They're a food truck with various locations so check the website that I linked!
Looks like Kapaolono Park… basketball court lights have been off for so many years… but finally up. I think.
Does the "Crack Seed Store" do mail order? The "Crack Seed Store in the Ala Moana Mall closed I think.
I heard that they do! Definitely check their link in the description!
