Today the boys continue to be boys and Christian spits a lot of wine out of his mouth. I'm not sure if anyone told him that's impolite.

I love the fact that Christian and Michael are not afraid to say things that might be viewed as “controversial” in today’s world, but are really harmless and strike an air of truth. So much of this is missing in today’s media and day-to-day interaction. Great job as always, gents.

You’re thinking of one British accent - RP. There are loads of different accents in Britain.
To just to add to that. Generally no one speaks RP (Received Pronunciation) in Britain.
It’s generally dying out, save for a few private schools that enforce ‘correct’ enunciation.
You’ll struggle to find many people talking like this in England. Unless you are rubbing shoulders with the royal family or listening to an American put on their best English accent.
Everyone talks like a Cockney or the queen from the outside….
I don’t mean this as a slight on Americans as this is clearly hammed up by our own media and exports. Just listen to James Corden on his late night show..or any sneaky antagonist in Hollywood. So forced, so antiquated and in no way a reflection of the country I’m living in.

The commentary on watch brands not “doing a lot” or influencing via celebrities is interesting when paired with the start of the video mentioning Far Cry. The world is moving exceedingly virtual and it’s cool to see brands begin “advertise” where the people are spending their time.
Exactly!! I thought the same. It was a far cry from the usual I guess..
Rolex is making history as the watch most stolen off wrists
Watches that first explored the extremes: the depths of the oceans (Fifty Fathoms, Deep Sea), tops of mountains (Explorer, Smiths), edges of space (Poljot, Pogue), surface of the moon (Speedmaster, Bulova), and the fastest cars (Monaco, Daytona), these are what we look back on today as monumental and inspiring for watch brands.
Are mechanical watches still useful for exploration? I don't think so, at least not as a primary timekeeping device or even as the official backup. Tomorrow, a watch will be connected to new boundaries being pushed out of desire and not necessity.
And what is left to explore? Mars has yet to be visited by mankind, maybe this is the next big adventure for watch manufactures in search of the new frontier.
Or maybe the Cory Richards VC and Ben Ainslie Rolex are the next evolution of this phenomena that we look back on so fondly.

Love the show, re: the stars and their look/watches - I think you were on target with the point that there won't be another iconic watch identified with a star like Paul Newman and the Daytona. With the dilution of media sources comes a loss of icons with a national/global following. If everyone can see who they want to see, when they want, in 10000 different places, we as one culture don't have the style icons we once did. Style came from movies, later TV, perhaps magazines, all of which had much larger followings in the past. But now with social media, streaming, and the like we have thousands (millions) of sources of style. This makes it difficult for there to ever be another watch now or in the future on par with the Newman Daytona.
Night fire is my favorite shooter of all time. It’s not particularly good, but it’s nostalgic, and the maps are just so Bond :)

It's just for rich folks is hitting the nail on the head. A stainless GMT in 1973 list price was the equivalent of $2,300 today. Expensive, but if it were something you were into you could afford it. An Explorer at that time was $1,700 in today's dollars. And this ignores that you typically got 20-30% off at the time.
I would think their won't be another Paul Newman Daytona because people are looking to create it. It was an unpopular, discounted watch that ended up on his wrist and it took several decades for anyone to give a crap about them. Now it feels like the goal is to have an instant classic without the same buildup.

I have a 36mm Citizen that my sister bought me in the mid '90s for my first job. I can't wear it though because it looks tiny on my wrist. The looks of a watch, to me, aren't necessarily all about the wrist size but hand size as well. Huge hands and a tiny watch look really strange.
Vintage may have appeal, but it has a whole lot more appeal once you start getting old. It reminds the wearer of the day he bought it new, which is a day you can never get back.
I come for the watches but always stay for Rolly. The man is a national treasure.

Yo, Americans 🇺🇸 What’s a British accent? English, Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish? 🤪
To the average American, there is no difference. Similarly, most Brits I hear talk about "American accents" like it is a very homogenous thing. This while I can tell what side of my home town (just 1.5 million people) someone is from by how they speak. Similarly, but on a more macro scale, in the southern U.S. locals can easily tell if someone is from Alabama (North vs. South) or Mississippi or Louisiana without too much trouble. There is no singular "southern" accent. NYC also historically has similar differences on the basis of borough and ethnicity and even street/neighborhood.

One point on the rise to fame of the Paul Newman Daytona was that at the time it was released, it was very, very far from popular. So when the interest started to mount in later years, suddenly there was next to no population out there making it both desirable and extremely rare. Rolex now has great watches, but all are popular resulting in a marked lack of rarity to propel a particular model to elite & unique stardom in years to come.

I take the early years of the Rolex Daytona all day over modern same with the Submariner and I can't leave out The Zenith Daytonas. Love the story about Charles Vermot hiding the tools and plans to the El primero movement and the Rolex contract brought Zenith back. I would love if Rolex brought back the 37mm case and maual wind movement. There will never be another Paul Newman NEVER or Bogart
