    A problem I had a while ago ... was just solved by looking for it online and printing it. No need to design it if it already exists. i'm talking about a headphone holder. I found a nice hanger, printed it in about 90 minutes and screwed it to my desk.
    Another example is ... I'm also a Scoutleader, but I alse need to take my meds with me ... and I know I'm not the only one. A solution would be a sturdy pill bottle. And there are loads you can download for free. I prefer the ones with knurling on the sides and one that screws shut. Any hinge is most likely to break sooner than a screw bottle ;)

    i want to start my 3D printing business but i dont know how to set up the business.. Such as what about keeping track of orders... printing lables.... Boxing,packageing and MAILING with a courier.... What about the I.R.S... is their a video that walks you thru each and every step needed to sell on line with a website like ECWID.

    This episode is interesting in that it defines the limits of the economic potential of plastic 3D-printing in 2022.
    The main obstacles to the technology are that it does not scale (due to the material cost and time per item printed) and the durability of said item.
    Its advantages are design speed, including rapidly iterating through "fire, ready, aim" cycles to arrive at a prototype, and project shop work where the production run length is 1. My favorite, and inspiring, example of the latter is prosthetics, e.g. - the patient is somehow missing an ear and one can be 3D-printed by using the mirror image of the other.
    Here's an extreme comparison metaphor: are we whittling a work of art from an interesting piece of wood or are we running a saw mill?
    More practically, even if your 3D-printed prototype achieves proof-of-concept, scale requires the additional investment in a injection mold or some other production volume technology.

      Yes and no. I would say on consumer/prosumer level that is true but once you get into commercial equipment the limits are reduced as you can 3d print much stronger materials and 3d printing also allows for designs that would otherwise be impossible to achieve and is now used in aerospace and motorsports amongst other things.

      What type of design wouldn’t be possible without 3D printing?

    • @bagoquarks
      @bagoquarks Před 7 měsíci

      @@HGW1776 Not certain I will be answering your question - I applaud the potential of 3D printing for design. In the practice of production at scale we're not there yet with 3D printing alone, IMO.

    So when we design a product that we want to sell. How do we go thru the licensing to be able to sell it? I want to design a solution for a decent size company but dont know the legal stuff behind it

    I will also say as a "consumer" of 3D models for printing - and that I own a resin printer - I automatically won't buy any model that has visible polygon facets. My resin printer is capable of very nice surfaces so I want models that are high quality and have a smooth surface ready to go.

    There is no problem that can be 3d mass printed.... they all go to other manufacturing solutions. 3d printing is ONLY good for prototyping because the materials are too weak.

    • @PeterHertel
      @PeterHertel Před 2 lety +1

      No, you are wrong. 3D printing IS an option for mass producing, albeit not for all and every product of course. You probably don't have much experience with 3D printing as the materials have more than adequate strength in many situations. I have 10+ years old prints that still function. Look at what prusa is doing at their print farm, to mention only one company mass producing with 3D printers.

    • @PeterHertel
      @PeterHertel Před 2 lety +1

      @@benveasey7474 absolutely you can. I've printed m12 threads a few months back and they work fine. It of course depends on the use situation if the print are strong enough. Shear strength is an issue as you want to print the threads upright.
