    I think a lot of the defensive upgrades come from GR next season. I think Edvinsson plays 82, as well as Johansson. That means they probably buy out either Holl or Petry. I was thinking they’d probably stand pat at goalie and wait for Cossa, but then I looked and saw that Markstrom has two years left on his contract, which could work if Calgary wants to go full rebuild as you’d have him with Lyon as the backup next year, then move Cossa to the back up the year after.

      Holl, Petry, and Chiarot are all candidates to replace with young blood. That saves like close to 8-9 mil off the cap.

      @silver3344 only contract I see them buying out would be petry. They would have to retain salary and trade the other two with picks to get rid of them

      @@Gkett883 Nah, lots of teams would want Holl and 3rd for nothing given his term and aav currently - same thing could be done with Petry and Chiarot. We have a good problem with a glut of good defensemen in the system.

    Adding Kane on 4 mil / aav or less for 4 years, with a MNTC on the last year is what I'd consider max.

      Sorry, but for exactly the reasons that were covered on the podcast, here, Patrick Kane should be looking at no more than a 2-year offer with an AAV of around $4-4.25 million.
      While we are all correctly impressed with what PK has brought to/done with the team, this season, I'm not 100% sure that he's that committed to being back in Detroit, next season, as things stand. His language in the season-ending presser was definitely interesting in that regard. Cards close to chest, words carefully chosen, BUT a certain feeling of distance already: the use of "they", "Larkin", etc. Contrast this with David Perron's presser and the difference was kind of night and day, really.
      It would definitely be good to have PK back next season, but only if it can be done in a way that makes sense for the team money and term wise.
      We shall see, I guess. Enjoy your hockey, out there.

      @@HAL9010-sv1gh I understand the reasons, but logic would tell me that Kane would forego some money for term, and that's his want. I don't see us offering what maybe Utah or even Chicago could, but I hope we give a good effort.

    Stevie is not Ken Holland and thank god, had Holland moved on sooner we would have been much farther along than we are right now, but things happen for a reason, so keep your chin up fans because we've got 3 studs, 1 more soon to be in edvinson, they'll keep the veterans they need, they'll cut off the fat, and be better next year. I heard ine take from Detroit podcast that said this is really year 3 of the rebuild when you consider all the dead weight Stevie had to get rid of from Holland thanks to terrible contracts, terrible draft picks-they couldve had Q. Hughes instead of Zadina if not for Holland's draft ineptitude, and oiss poor cap management. They'll get there, and theyll be btter than all the young teams like the Oilers, Leafs, Sabres, and Sens because Stevie is a genius on and off the ice. Remember they weren't a destination for F.A. thanks to not being competitive l, but I think this year will change players minds. If Kane resigns then book the playoffs next year because you'll get other guys in FA that will see what Stevie is doing.

    Would you rather have Kane or Stamkos or both? Stammers is a UFA this summer. And we all know Stamkos and Yzerman have a history. Just sayin...
    Isn't Lane Lambert available since Lou relieved him of his duties. Or the Berube rumors that were floated out there earlier. I think Lalonde will get the season.

    I don't think Copp is going anywhere, he was never a soft handed fleet footed center that scores a lot of points. I think Stevie is getting from Copp what he expected, his number are about average for his career and his faceoff percentage this year was 53.5 percent, the third best in his career. . He is a doing what is asked of him. Sure I wish he was a 50 - 60 point guy but that is just not what he is. A buyout for Hall makes more sense to me.

      I’m torn on Kane. While I like what he did for them this season, and definitely would be open to them keeping him, they’re gonna have to pay him a LOT more, and it sounds like he would want term which Stevie isn’t the biggest fan of. Also…I really think you could get 20 goals and 50 points calling up Kasper or Berggren from GR. Are they going to be point per game…no, but they could replace what Kane brought over 82 games.

    • @bradmaguire9611
      @bradmaguire9611 Před měsícem +2

      I disagree about Lalonde, they outperformed expectations, really didnt have a #1 goalie, barely a defensive core, you dont compete late in the year with that kind of roster. Plus it's better to have a coach who keeps things close to the vest and doesnt throw his players under the tracks in interviews, Bowman did the same thing and no one complained because he wasl already a legend, but he made plenty of mistakes, not saying lalonde is a biwman like coach, but fans don't really know what goes on in the locker room, and frankly they shouldn't. The coach doesn't play the games, doesn't miss their defensive gaps, and can only make so many changes before he loses the players confidence. Remember these players are all still kids, even at 30, and they all have egos. Next year will be more indicative of hiw lalonde is doing as I think they'll get better FA thanks to being competitive this year.

      @@casewojo6186 once again if he's saying to you ostensibly through the media what he's saying to the players in private he would lose all of the players confidence. It's like a parent going up to a teacher and telling the teacher all of the embarrassing crap their kid has done, or vice versa. Would you as the child have confidence in your parent or your teacher to not embarrass you, hell no, you'd feel ashamed and be incapable of trusting those figures ever again. You need to keep in mind most NHL players are still developing adults, you can complain about how much money they get paid compared to you, but that's just envy and jealousy showing and extremely unhealthy. Coaches who serve on a platter personal info on the players are betraying their confidence, what happens in locker rooms stays there. If you as a fan want to know what happens in that locker room or the motivation behind lalonde being vague and seemingly unemotional in his pressers then you probably have too much of an affinity to being over emotional yourself and are living a very unhealthy lifestyle dependent on individuals who you will never know and who have no responsibility to share every detail of their life with you, just as those athletes have no business knowing the personal details of your life. They improved from last year, in spite of not having a #1 goalie or a legit #2,#3,#4,#5 or #6 defenseman, it's a results driven league, they got results, just not the ones that many delusional fans expected.
