Maddie Ziegler Talks ‘Toxic’ Social Media and Her Family Watching Her KISSING Scenes (Exclusive)

- Maddie Ziegler is opening up to ET about her intense new drama, ‘The Fallout.’ The 18-year-old actress explains why she was nervous to film a scene where her character gets drunk, while director Megan Park chimes in to share the story of asking Maddie to learn to roll a joint with fake marijuana for the scene. Despite the film’s mature subject matter, Maddie insists the movie was a blast to film as she bonded and drank slurpees with her co-star, Jenna Ortega. Maddie also shares her thoughts on social media -- specifically, why she ‘doesn’t love it’ and thinks ‘it’s become a toxic place.’ The former ‘Dance Moms’ star also talks about how her mom, Melissa Gisoni, and sister, Mackenzie Ziegler, reacted when they saw Maddie in this film. She also reflects on her career, calling herself ‘such a beginner’ who feels grateful to learn from talents like Megan Park and Jenna Ortega. Maddie also teases her upcoming role in ‘Westside Story,’ which she says was a major career milestone. ‘The Fallout,’ directed by Megan Park, premiered March 17 during the SXSW Film Festival.

Maddie was actually such a great actress in this movie, and it impressed me! She really can do it all, and I hope she continues doing movies like these, and acting & hopefully makes a name for herself outside of dance. She is really so talented & likeable, and she's very natural in roles like this just being a teenager in highschool, but still when she's older I hope she goes to take on more challenging roles as an adult.
Jenna was fabulous too, and a great actress and I hope to continue seeing her on tv as well :)

I was extremely impressed by this movie and the job Maddie and Jenna did!! Absolutely phenomenal acting and writing, they both deserve so much praise for their real and honest depictions of grief, connection, and healing.

the fallout is such an incredible movie in every way, for its acting, the way it depicts so accurately topics like modern teenage years, trauma, relationships etc, the writing is amazing AND THE SOUNDTRACK by finneas oh my lawd it’s beautiful
i knew that rolling a joint scene wasn't originally how it's supposed to, because jenna was literally teaching maddie how to do it asking her to grind more
i LOVED this movie! It felt so raw and actually felt like real teens from this generation. The scene that got me was when Jenna was laying down chilling and her sister was just in the back doing tik toks. THESE ARE TEENS! Not euphoria and all that shit. My applause to the director.

omgosh don’t judge me, but i just realized she was Maddie from dance moms. i haven’t watched that show since she was superrrr young. she did so good in the movie!! she did really well. she definitely does deserve to be there.
Not actual acting wise because obviously Angelina Jolie has much more of a career and experience and knowledge that Maddie doesn’t have yet. But she really really gives me Angelina Jolie vibes on the clips in these movies just the way she holds herself and she becomes these people.

What's crazy is also the fact that Maddie transition her career quickly. But I still love Jenna more in the movie due to her prodigious talent at developing and bringing a character to life. There's just a different depth when she became the main character and seeing how versatile she is, I'm glad Maddie had time to learn from her

Honestly she probably haven't rolled before. I thought that scene was werid at first because she clearly doesn't know what she's doing yet they keep talking about as if she does. I thought it was choice to make mia lie to seem cool, but I realize the actress had just nerve done it before. A lot of teens especially ones from acting background with do much pressure don't smoke.

I haven’t seen the film but I do know as a professional musician that used to work in the film industry that there’s not another dancer i could ever dream to work with other than Maddie!

Huh?! They were taking about how Maddie didn't actually know how to roll a joint but was trying to make it seem like she did. A lot of her lines on the scene make her seem like a pro but she does a horrible job with it and it becomes a much more organic scene as a result by taking the first scene attempt rather than waiting for a scene where Maddie was more proficient.

These people are/were beautiful and talented individuals who have/had so much to offer. Heartbreaking!! They all need prayer. And responsible people overseeing their careers.
