    I'm a newer hunter. Meaning, I didn't start until adulthood. And something I don't understand is the criticism of videos like these by OG hunters that claim it makes it too easy for people, point creep, and how they had to learn the "hard way". But at the same time worry about how hunter numbers are falling off. THESE VIDEOS and others like them(Randy Newberg, Corey and Donny@ elk101) are what absolutely gives new guys- and gals, the confidence to make a dream a reality. Thank you guys for these videos. They are absolutely invaluable to people like me.

    At 64yrs old and 40 plus years of archery elk hunting, I for some reason follow you knuckle heads on CZcams like a kid watching cartoons on Saturday mornings... Thanks for keeping me young. Be safe and God bless.

    Ahh!!! You all just put one of my spots up for the world to see😂 No worries though, I love you guys and everything you all are doing. Totally worth it. Moving to a new spot this year anyways. For those interested, I’ve scene plenty of sign and a few cows while scouting but haven’t had an encounter with a bow in my hand. Good luck to everyone and keep it up BRO’S!!!

    Thanks for all you guys do. I'm making my maiden voyage this year. Very stoked and learning as much as I can. Definitely trying to overcome the mental aspect of this. Just putting it in the Lords hands and doing my part. Good luck this year guys.

    I really appreciate a video like this. So many of the hunting videos I watch talk about finding your areas. Doing your research. Doing your scouting. Blah blah. But they never go into how or where to even start doing any of that. It’s just assumed all hunters know this stuff already. Well if that’s the case then don’t you think those hunters already know you have to do your scouting and researching too? So they are just using filler words to add fluff to their videos. Everyone has to start somewhere and learn. This was information I could actually use. Thanks!

    Ok you all have convinced us we can do it! Going with my Sons & brothers to Montana for a Cow hunt! I have thoroughly enjoyed your Land of the Free series. Not a huge Archery hunter - rifle is my game but, I do have a bow & will start getting back in the swing of it. My oldest son Jason set us all down at Christmas & said WE ARE GOING ELK HUNTING THIS YEAR! We are doing it if we get drawn. If not we are going OTC to Colorado. Have extended family n Montana to point in right direction.

    Looking to put together my first OTC elk hunt next fall. I'm an older, out of shape fat guy, hence wanting to give myself a year to get into better shape.
    I'm actually looking at an Oregon hunt, due to having a brother living just west of the cascades.
    Any info is greatly appreciated, and I'll be watching all of your (and the hush guys) videos numerous times between now and then.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for sharing this series. Even though I watched Randy Newberg's E-Scouting series it is always good to get a perspective from other successful veteran public land hunters. A great breakdown indeed of your thought process on a random unit. My youngest brother is doing an OTC mule deer hunt with a rifle in Idaho, I would love to go, but even if I can't I really enjoying doing the research and helping him with the e-scouting and other things as much as I can. Good luck this year guys. I look forward to the next part of this series.

    OnX is my go to map app. I use it almost daily. I’m never in phone reception and download the map areas of interest. The app was acting a little funny this last weekend, waypoints placement was a little off. Keep the series coming, looking forward to this season with BRO.

  • @timobrien8841
    @timobrien8841 Před 3 lety

    This video was helpful. But it could be a lot better. It's obviously geared towards helping people that are going to hunt elk in CO. But most people are not from the Rockies. So we don't know what these terms are: drainages (is there actually water in the drainage?), wallow, basin, bowl, draw, mesa. Educational videos should cover some vocabulary as well. Thanks

  • @lukeerlebach1297
    @lukeerlebach1297 Před 5 lety

    Question for you guys, when you pick a unit and start to get your 10 spots. How big of an area within the unit do you focus on? Do you focus on 10 spots relatively close so you can get to them quickly if one doesn't work out? Or do you try and spread them out across the unit?

    • @bornandraisedoutdoors
      @bornandraisedoutdoors  Před 5 lety +1

      Sometimes both, obviously travel is going to take up time so you might try to stay within a couple hundred miles. That being said, I wouldn't just rely on it. Pick spots because you think they'll have elk and be confident about the spot you choose.

    What do you do in a situation where you have seen elk move through areas. do you keep hunting that country? Do you hit that one day and if they aren’t there then move on? I Just feel tied down on some spots since I have seen elk there but just not consistently. What would you guys do? Great video tho I appreciate the details keep it up👊🏼

    You boys might consider getting the word out to the people of Colorado that, what ever they do, oppose any wolves, what so ever, being brought into their state. The Canadian grey wolf is not native to this ecosystem, regardless of what the liars from the federal Fish and Wildlife Agence says. Our native wolf is the western American Timber Wolf. These troublemaking grey wolves have been nothing but trouble since the very 1st day they were dropped off in Idaho in 1995. You people of Colorado have great elk herds in your state. If you get wolves in three they will devastate your elk and deer, they will be damaging to your livestock and they will be damaging to the industry of your state.
