    Woo hoo, got it. 3/8. LCD of 12. 8H = 3. H = 3/8.
    Thanks for the fun.

    Greetings. The answer is h=3/8. You start by cross multiplying, and thereafter divide both sides of the equation by 8 to get h=3/8 (from 8h=3).

    2/3 H = 1/4 divide both sides by 2/3
    H = 1/4 divided by 2/3 'flip' the 2/3 and multiply instead
    H = 1/4 x 3/2
    H = 3/8

    Golden rule of algebra: "what you do unto one side of the equation you do unto the other".
    2/3 H • 3/2= 1/4 • 3/2 =
    6/6 H is 1H = 3/8
    H=3/8

    h= 1/4/2/3
    1/4x3/2=3/8
    Very simple

    This one is quite easy... you want to loose the left hand 2/3 by multiplying both sides with 3/2...
    So h = 1/4 x 3/2 = 3/8

    I thought you multiplied the 2*4=8 and the 3*1=3 giving 8h=3, then, 3/8=.375=h.

    (2/3)h=(1/4)
    Cross multiply so
    (2×4)h=(3×1)
    8h=3
    h= (3/8)
    V E R I F Y
    (2/3)(3/8)=?(1/4)
    (2/8)(3/3)=?(1/4)

    I’m shocked it took you more than 12 minutes to explain one of the most basic principles of algebra, adding zero and multiplying by one. This is a 1 line problem. You multiply both sides but 3/2 and you get the answer immediately as h = 3/8. I have no idea what you were doing for all that time, and I’m not going to waste 12 minutes to find out!

      I concur. Too much talking, too many words. Multiply each side of the equation by 3/2, and we’re done.

    • @richardhole8429

      We advanced students know to invert the 2/3 to 3/2
      And multiply both sides by it. 3/8. That took 5 seconds of mental math. We can do that because some teacher stood before us at a blackboard and taught the same lesson that John taught. I would not ask him to just teach the shortcut rather that the background info. Teach the new students as we were taught. I am here to keep my math "knife" sharpened. I suspect you are also. Just fast forward past the lesson.
