Making A Blowgun: Life In The Amazon Jungle
Vložit
- čas přidán 24. 07. 2024
- The Blowgun is one of the most recognizable hunting weapons in the Amazon jungle region. Kids generally learn at a very young age to use a blowgun by hunting insects and small animals.
South American blowguns are different from ones we use in North America in that they are generally longer, and they are shot upwards into the trees. The mouthpiece doubles as a handle when shooting in this fashion.

Thank you so much for making a video on this, I think about how much knowledge was lost but I'm so happy that these people are keeping it alive
*thumbs up*
i love your videos but it annoys me that you always cut them off when it gets good, i was really hoping to see how the darts are made, or in the one where you showed them making roof panles, you should have showed more about how they put them on
Jack Sparrow im with you
I agree, such a disappointment .
I see what you are saying. Missed opportunity.
InnerBark Outdoors it took u 5 years??!!
Siema
I watched that whole thing just to not see you try it out! Or show how the dart are made!
Should give them a job making these for sale to collectors. 😃👌👍👍👏👏
*thumbs up*
I agree. I would love to have one made by those ingenious people. Great video.
I’d be a buyer
I love this. Sanding there actually means going out and getting some sand from the river
*thumbs up*
THX Andy
That was really cool watching the build !!
*thumbs up*
An amazing upload! Thanks for not filming in that dreadful vertical strip mode. Had it been so, I would have downvoted, left a derogatory comment, skipped it and pressed the three dots to ask for no more feed from your channel. Uploads like this are deserving of watching on a wide-screen TV! Thanks.
I have one that was given to my grandfather. Was made by an old man back back in the 60s in the Amazon. It’s definitely not split the barrel is incredibly smooth and straight. It’s made from a hardwood.
Very cool Andy. This was a very thorough lesson on how to make a blowgun. I always wondered how the inside was smoothed. I never even considered it was a split tube.
Thank you brother!
Your thinking is right ...the ideal one is which is bored closely.... By very stressfull method ...by small stick
Would be great if you could make a video how to build a blowgun in normal forests like the one where you normally fo your videos or like the forests in germany. I think many of the tasks would be very similar for example the glue because you csn gather glue from birch bark :)
*thumbs up*
😂😂😂😂😂2
Os detalhes desse vídeo foi muito importante e interessante, parabéns!
listen here Sonny, I want you to know that this documentary was very informative. I thoroughly enjoyed watching.....good work!
*thumbs up* *thumbs up*
i just used a pvc pipe for my blowgun. Man, now i really want to make this.
Yeah me too, my pvc pipe blowgun can send the darts into concrete
*thumbs up*
Me too I have killed many garden lizards from pvc pipe blowgun it's really fantastic
Loved watching this playlist, thanks! 👍
Kung Fu Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
+InnerBark Outdoors It took till 2015 for someone to make a Vid on this stuff!! There are many Documentaries of amazon tribes from the 1950s till now, and Not, one shows Blowgun or bow making!! Great Vids!!! But I wonder how they did this with no metal tools?
5tonyvvvv technique looks quite similar to the Cherokee cane blow pipe. I have wondered on many occasions how that was done with Flint!!? Beats me!
Such great skill. Very well documentation Andy. Thanks you so much for this series. I have to say this episode was a particular highlight.
Warm wishes from the UK.
*thumbs up*
Another amazing vid bro! Now show shooting it!
*thumbs up*
Artfully executed! I enjoyed every second!
FireboxStove its like porn for me ;)

Glad to hear!
Such beautiful art!
*thumbs up*
Nice video! I love hunting with these.
Hi urbanhunterz👋 :D i really like your video's!!
*thumbs up*
cool
its amazing how unskilled we really are compared to these people
millionjakeus Indeed. These fine folks know the business in the jungle.
Years of culture preservation.
millionjakeus boi, they re surviving by using it,so they have to be professional in order to survive
@Anthony Maurice The jungle really does provide all. Differently shaped stones were used, and different grades of rocks with different properties were selected for different purposes.
Even for this, one would have to become fairly adept and skilled at making tools - to make further tools. 'Flint knapping', as it was called in neolithic (?) Europe, was as important a skill at making tools, as was using the tools that it made, as was using those tools to hunt or whatever.
It's a very valid point that many of us are completely inept at bushcraft.
However, one shouldn't be too hard on oneself: we are extremely skilled at living in *our* current-day lifestyles. Think of how much we have to teach our kids. That realisation makes you, and *should* make you remark on how skilled we actually are in our own fields, and daily lives. Living is not 'easy' in any generation or lifestyle.
That said, I really do admire these guys, and sincerely HOPE that there will be living records like them of these fine, sustainable practises in centuries to come. Culture is amazing. It should be preserved at all costs. Our 'open borders' practises does not help that in *our* cultures.
The file cards I've seen are very flat wire brushes with very short bristles. They're used for cleaning files that shape and smooth metal and wood.
This video is awesome and the background conversations are hilarious! They seem like a fun bunch 😂
Thanks sock! Glad you like it, and yeah it was an amazing trip with great people
awesome web serie i m always waiting for the next adventure video!
Glad you liked following along
Love from indonesia..I love Amazon....🌝🌞⛅🌧🌨🌪
Hello! Loved it when I went.
It is amazing wish I could go there some day innerbark outdoor
It truly an amazing place
An Ingenious piece of equipment, I wonder from what date these weapons originated? Anyone got an idea, these tribes are truly masters of their environment, great to watch.
Thanks Ian. Glad you enjoyed the video
Thanks for videoing & show this! At the 'gluing the halves together' part, I was wondering how they were going to keep the glue from spilling over into the bore, if they were going to glue them like woodworkers would do, by gluing the edges first and then tie/clamping the halves after.
But they don't glue the edges directly, they tie/clamp first, then brush hot glue onto the seam, apparently letting capillary action suck the glue just partway into the join and not go into the bore at all.
Amazingly epic! I always wanted to make a blowpipe for my black smith forging. Now I can make my own! Thanks a bunch sir. Glad you posted this.
Go forward and make one!
Great filming!
Thanks!
Simply amazing!
*thumbs up*
Thanks ... long wanted to know the development of the blowgun. that good video
*thumbs up*

Interesting to watch. How'd it work?

Fascinating!
*thumbs up*
yes they used victorinox swiss army knife in the amazons
hey! but its great eitherways
*thumbs up*
Ayyy! I’m brasilian, with native ancestry too! These my people
*thumbs up*
I was wondering, What is the real purpose of the Mouthpiece beside putting you in contact with the blowgun. Do the mouthpiece reduce the sound of the blowing? Is it accelerating the speed of the shot? Thank you and really good video!
It helps with a good seal for the air and to protect the end
That is the real primitive making btw anyone watching this from 2018?
xjobx erang yep!
xjobx erang I feel like these guys would be really happy with a bottle of titebond 😎
Nice video. But wish to see if it were made with all traditional tools.
2019 here
*thumbs up* I'm here :)
Awesome video with lotsa details. Everything is properly explained and I have no question at the end of the video. Very impressed by this quality video. Even better, I've learned a ton there. Outstanding, these videos are much appreciated ;)
Thanks brother!
How did the material for wrapping the outside get flat?
When they stripped the inside out of the special vine 13:34, the result was a round cord. I guess you didn't show them flattening it out?
Oh, wait, it was the OUTSIDE of the vine that they used, not the inside! Which was sort of naturally flattened.
Thanks for sharing Andy!
This is very cool knowledge.
*thumbs up*
Another great video Andy! Hey, what camera do you use most on your off time. Like what is your go-to camera? (sony, nikon, olympus...?) What do you think about mirror-less? Love your vids keep em up.
Thank! To this day I use a Nikon.
Respect!thank you!
Go make one!
Amazing
*thumbs up*
I love these videos ! :)
Thank you!
Very good vid! Now I can make a blowgun. All sorts of design ideas come to mind. Thanks!
Go out and make one! :)
very good dude thanks!!
*thumbs up*
Fantastic
Thank you! Cheers!
The blowgun is my favorite weapon. In fact I still have the one I got.
*thumbs up*
Who knows what the name of the palm used to make the blowpipe is called
amazing!!!
*thumbs up*
Would you do the same ting with bamboo? Also how did you get to meet these people, I want to visit the Amazon jungle when I'm older and hopefully meet a tribe that can teach me how to make one.
I went with a guide. He had all the connections and this was an excursion with him.
Super video ...
yay thanks!
at 16:16 there was a bird call that plays in the background of angry birds...
*thumbs up*
It would be interesting to know what tools they used pre-contact? Is there chert or some other knapable materials out there?
I'm told that obsidian was a highly traded commodity prior to first contact. They don't have access to bedrock or anything like that.
From What material did you make the white ends to the darts?
*thumbs up*
Did you mention where you were? This looks like maybe Yagua stuff from Colombia.
Near Laticia
The more I see that Tahoma field knife the more I want one lol
Hope you got one
Very good
Thanks
Great video, though I wished the making of the dart was elaborated a bit.
*thumbs up*
Were those a specific brand of machetes or just random ones they had , and how did the Tfk do, any issues?
campinggear1 TOPS Machetes. The TFK did pretty well :)
Thanks for vid helps alot😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
*thumbs up*
4:18 that tree said 😛
*thumbs up*
always makes me laugh when "survilvalist" say big knives no good small tasks let a lot of native people the world round use machettes/ parangs ect for everything from wood gavering to small traps
*thumbs up*
As he said ..that ain't a knife, this is !
Always. A big knife does small knife stuff poorly, but a small knife can't do big knife stuff at all, so a bigger knife is better
This the way to learn blow gunning
Totally awesome
*thumbs up* thanks!
Hey man, great videos! What kind of knife are you using?
Never mind just finished the video haha
*thumbs up* hehe
are these blow guns more powerfull then the commercial high end "Cold Steel Professional 5"" blowguns? how do they compare (of corse same blow air force and lenght)
really what it depend from? so the very precise shape of a maschine worked bore/barrel is still not as perfect as an hand-carved bore one? (sorry for my english
I have not used commercial blow guns, but after using these ones I can only image that they would hold up against the best "manufactured" ones.
What wood is used for this blowgun making?
Ahh - I can't remember, sorry brother!
very great vid, thank you ! i buy a blow gun cold steel
Glad you enjoyed!
very very good
*thumbs up*
Where can I get that knife homie has when he splits the staff
TOPS
wow i wanna do this like them
Bushcraft global is still doing trips. Call up Joe Flowers!
What is the thickness diameter of powerfull blowgun
These diameters are a bit smaller than the ones we find in the states. Longer darts
What knife is the one with bow drill socket?
The Tahoma Field Knife. You can find it on my website link on my page
is that a CRKT Hoodworks knife in addition to the Tops Tahoma?
*thumbs up*
Very awesome and amazing! How did she shoot?
*thumbs up*
did you get to keep the blowgun and take it home?
brought It homee
What camera was used to film this? I really like the look.
Canon
Great video! Just wondering what knife is that at 1:56 ? Looks amazing
Takhoma something idek
*thumbs up*
The Erie or Cat Nation of New York state used blowguns also.
*thumbs up*
Regaerding the rubber tree, I find it interesting the V isn't connected at the bottom.
They left a bit of bark there for them to slip a palm leaf blade to act as a drip into the container
Tops tahoma survival knife👍
yeah buddy
beautiful knife! what is it? if ever there is a specific name for it.
*thumbs up* TFK
How come you didn't show how to make the darts
Missed opportunity
Oh and also nice video
*thumbs up*
Is there a part 2
A whole series
where can i get a knife like that?
Random www.inner-bark.com
please tell Rodolfo , thanks for his knowledge
*thumbs up*
love
*thumbs up*
One of the guys was talking about how they use the glue to wax their ass...😂
Hahah
Beautifully, professionally made documentary. Fantastic shooting and editing, and voice over. Excellent lads, well done.
I was just a bit disappointed that ye didn't show the polishing process which you mentioned happens *after* the application of the wet sand. It seemed to be a separate stage of the process which you didn't show.
If anybody knows, is it just a suitable form of stone or something which does the polishing?? Just like modern ballistics and rifle barrells, I would imagine that the inside of that pipe has to be extremely smooth and glassy-like.
Anyway, sláinte. It was a REALLY lovely, excellently well-made production, unlike so many other poor attempts at this fascinating subject.
We didn't have time to film that unfortunately, but it was explained to me that they use the proper diameter vine covered in fine sand. They tie it between two trees and move the blowgun back and forth to polish the bore.
hey dude! why not try the philippines, the natives called the Aetas, they are experts in jungle survival, they also hunt in a primitive way
*thumbs up*
6:13 "ya' it looks like marshmallows"
*thumbs up*
what is the knife used in the video???
TFK
