If it is too narrow, it won't last nearly as long. The ice near the edges is sketchy on warmer days. (Slushy and risky) The ice in the middle remains thick and strong. If it was narrow, it would get "boxed in" by snow and slush and become super dangerous faster. Hope that somewhat answers your question.

In that case they probably should too because tolls are a good way to fund road construction and maintenance.
      On the other hand
As long as people can be common-sense adults (and that often happens in small communities) they don't really need the courts and government. The punishment for not paying the toll is being known as the selfish guy who refuses to pay the toll. If the toll is more popular than you are, well, it sucks to be you.

Never again will I accept the argument of "taxes pay for our roads".
This shows that the people can do as good if not better of a job at getting things done than government ever could. Good for them!

Only February and we're already hearing stories of Americans abandoned by their own government, I hope there's still a country left to recover in 2024

I wonder if those folks who seem to own a cabin up there are allowed entry to buy food or only year round inhabitants. Ownership seems as permanent as living only there imo. I wonder if there's a matching disconnect piece of Canada dealing with the same hurdles.

Even though it made a great video, I feel sorry for those people that are cut off from everything because of the weather. I grew up in subzero temperatures and 3 feet of snow and ice. So I know what they are going through. Thanx for posting this.

They are cutoff because of fear, not the weather.....

Its the freezing weather that has liberated them...Canada's irrational fear and playing along with the PLANdemic is what has isolated them...and killed tourism... Bunch of Sheep!

Residents of northwest angle are not cut off. They can still travel into Canada for essential services either by land year round or by the ice road travelling north into Kenora. It’s just the lodge operators who felt cut off because their customers had no options. If anything Canadian lodge operators are suffering the most because more then 90% of our customers are from the USA.
