Jonathan Davis is a ridiculously versatile and unique singer. Also, he is not only a brilliant singer but a brilliant producer as well! His layered vocals in almost all Korn song and his solo material is so, so well done and you really can't find any other singer in any other Metal band that layers their voice like that.

Huge KoRn fan, but JD isn't versatile, lol.
He's good with the growling, but not versatile. There's about 40 singers above him. I'm not saying he sucks, because he doesn't. He happens to have a distinctive and unique voice in music, he stands out, and that's what I love about JD & KoRn. They're within my top 10 bands.

I can get on board with this. I always felt like their music was powerful or profound in a way that their contemporaries just weren't. Even if I couldn't necessarily relate to all of JDs lyrics (I've never been raped while my mother watched), they might've been the first group where the instruments alone gave me a release and an avenue to vent my adolescent aggression. I feel they are very underrated and not taken as seriously as some inferior groups in large part due to their fan base and imagery and a relatively common perception amongst people like myself (listened to them religiously through Issues, then forgot they existed) that they peaked in the early 2000s. I didn't even know they were still active until recently so I can't speak on anything after that period. To me though, in an era where every other band was using gimmicks and shocking imagery to stand out, they stood out with their music. They also had some pretty groundbreaking music videos as well.

“I have never heard anything like that” exactly what I said almost 10 years ago when they became my favorite band of all time and they still are. And I STILL have never heard anything like that. Jonathan is so incredible and his voice ages like wine. I know it’s not exactly on topic but I also want to mention what a beautiful person he is too. He is SO sweet. He’s been through so much shit and yet he’s always remained such a beautiful soul… I was fortunate enough to meet Korn a couple times and they are seriously some of the kindest, most genuine and sweet human beings in this world. Actually I think it is on topic because that sensitivity he has is what I believe sets him apart. It’s rare to find a singer that pours that much heart and soul into every single note… but he does. That emotion and the way it comes out of him and what he creates in his music is so powerful and touching beyond words… life altering for me lol. Rare breed in every aspect. I’ll love that dude forever. Amazing video, thank you for shining light on his voice, he really deserves it.

@@Jen-X333 I met Head, Munky, Ray & Fieldy twice, JD only once! He wasn’t there the first time. They’re so sweet and everything I had dreamed they’d be like and way beyond. JD is such an angel. I didn’t have a lot of time to talk to him but I think we sort of communicated non-verbally lol. I had similar experiences to him growing up and Korn was always there for me so it was overwhelming emotionally when I did finally meet him because this guy that has been there for me all these years is in front of me lol. They were standing up on a platform thing and I didn’t realize I was supposed to stand in front of it not also get on it, so I jumped up there and hugged him and told him I loved him 🤣 and he gave me the biggest hug and said he loved me too! He is SO sweet. Most “rockstars” would not do that. I saw him again a little later and he gave me such a huge smile and said “take care darling”. I’ll never forget that. I can tell he really loves the Korn fans a lot. I have to also mention Head though. I wrote him a letter as well and he actually took the time to answer me 😭 And then remembered me two years later. I was 13 (then 15) and he was so loving towards me in a fatherly kind of way. He is an angel as well. And he has such peaceful loving energy about him. I watched his documentary and think I reminded him of his daughter in a few ways based on what I shared in my letter and we’re almost the same age (I think she’s 2 years older). They are amazing people. Ray is also very sweet and super funny. I didn’t get to talk to him or Munky or Fieldy as much otherwise I’d share more. I hope you get to meet them too. I must say their meet & greet prices are extremely affordable especially compared to other bands. That first time I met them it was only like $40 for this after party thing and they just hung around with everyone talking and signing stuff and taking pictures. I’ve also seen them just hanging around after shows a few times. So your chances are high! Sorry I went on for quite a bit there. 🤣 They’re so special to me. I also know it’s nice to hear that your favorite musicians are amazing people so I thought I’d share. Blessings ❤️

I saw on a forum that his complete vocal range is an A1 - F5 (3 octaves and 8 semi notes, almost close to 4 octaves by 4 semi notes) which seems like a typical vocal range for alt metal singer of his class, but what makes him stand out by most is what he can do with his voice. Jonathan is a master of changing his texture. One part he's sounding raspy, another time clean, some times aggressive and sometimes melancholic.
His many voices include the following:
    The atmospheric melancholic sounding falsettos
    The breathless yet hostile screams/shrieks
    The clean high head voice
    The demented scat/beatbox
The fryish creepy/sexy toasting (the act of talking or chanting, usually in a monotone melody, over a rhythm or beat usually famous with DJs)
    The monstrous death growls
The raspy yet melodious flow in his singing
The thrash grunts usually when he's trying to make a point

Y'all just do yourselves a huge favor and listen to 'In Dark December' on CZcams. JD is obviously one of his inspirations. Thank me later. Tyler Moffitt is so underrated and NEEDs to be heard, he could surly help a lot of people. Chris Nitta on that channel is also him. He does the drums with his own drums ALL guitar, bass, singing and etc. He mixes and masters and produces. Always supplies fresh new work. Go ahead and show him some love.

That's because JOHNATHAN DAVIS IS THE F***ING MAN!!!!!!! He inventive the experimental vocalizations in music to this day. The first ever to maneuver a metal beat box into a song! He is that raw and unedited as far as his acapella, no voice auto-tune or any of that garbage that the newer less talented scouts have. Fuckin' love Korn, love John as an artist!

KoRn? nice. Ive liked theire music since my early teens, follow the leader was one of the first CD's I bought, ive had a very good upbringing and life , but even back then I could instantly tell this shit was sogood, so genuine. To this day parts of the lyrics and tone reveals new levels of struggles I can just imagine. Mad respect for sharing and turning it into this music

Jonathan has done really well at finding his diaphragm. Some singers sound like they're struggling with breath. Really sometimes it's that simple. Even if you're not a great singer you can learn control and it helps.
