What do you give to a severely dehydrated day old infant. Is the 60ml/kg/day enough?
bolus at 20ml/kg over 1 hour for example if birth weight is 3.2 give 64ml then reassess after your hour then you can continue maintenance
for children (who have no malnutrition) with some dehydration who can't tolerate ORS we commonly give 75 ml/kg of RL over 4 hours. and you also mentioned the same thing in this video. my question is how scientifically backed is this practice because WHO recommends ORS for some dehydration either orally or by NG tube. not IV fluids
So for children with no or some dehydration, enteral (oral or NG) rehydration is preferable, however this may sometimes not be feasible as such in these situations there is a role of IV Fluids
