I like the idea of benching Oriol against a team like this where we most likely won’t need to defend as much. But obviously against teams like Bayern, Madrid, City etc. he’ll be needed as a double pivot with De Jong

But good games From Joao (MOTM) Frenkie, Balde, Lewandowski, Raphinha, Gundogan and both CBs. I have a huge problem though even from this match and it is one of our goalscorers; Gavi. Now do not get me wrong I love Gavi (not as much as Pedri) but I think for too long now, out of possession he does too many silly things. He loses stamina, he picks up silly fouls and yellows, he is too physical and he hurts himself by sacrifing himself. He is good but he is a huge concern for me.
Now we see why Xavi wanted the players that he wanted.

Xavi is not as stubborn as I thought he was, he quickly learnt his lesson. The line up was perfect. Xavi grew up as a coach in the last few days. He quickly realized that Gavi is not a winger, Romeu doesn't have to play all the games, he also knows that Gundogun is too good to ever sit on the bench. He trusted Frankie Dejong to marshall the midfield, maybe it's the addition of Cancelo but I thought he was going to break my heart again with one of those his amateur lineups. We can only enjoy it for now, soak it all up. The big tests are coming.

Raphinha is so tactically important in Xavi's setup. His task is to keep width and support Joao Cancelo in his work - dropping back, switching with Kounde, being in the midfield, which was crucial in winning possession and keeping the pressure.

We need Felix and other players making runs. There were multiple times players would make runs but we failed to find them. Lewandowski's goal is an example of risking players making runs.

Pep's dynamic-5 overlapping system ... uses players who can go up further 1/3 of the pitch.
Meaning ... Xavier's concept of inverted wingback has to cover 2/3 of the pitch during attack and recovery .. that's exhausting.
Pep's approach only needs the players to cover additional 1/3 of the pitch.
Inverted CB/FB playing mid-field role during attack.
I have been vindicated on the Joao Felix signing... Atletico was never his kind of club, Chelsea made him look bad but with Barca, everyone can see how good he is in the final third of the pitch.
I love this tactics (2-3-5) from xavi when attacking and (4-2-3-1) when defending. It really helps us to counter attack faster. I cannot name a single player tonight that put a foot wrong... Everyone including the substitute were spot on.
Scoring 10 goals in 2 games without conceding no matter the opponent is not something that comes by easily... Mancity conceded tonight against a team from Serbia... so we need to appreciate what is going on now and hope it continues without much injuries disrupting it.

Joan Laporta always works wonders IMO when he’s at the club as President, and I’m happy our team is getting the players the coach and fans have desperately been asking for 🙏🏻we never needed expensive Galacticos, just the right ones that fit our system. I’m glad Lewa demanded a change of play style after the Villarreal game in late August.

It was obvious that we would be knocked out of any competition by any team. But look what happened now, both Araujo and Pedri are not playing and we are on top form. I'm literally in tears... Bro RN I'll play Gavi ahead of pedri. Its no use RN being that talented and not being consistently fit to make your talents work for the team... Luca Modric would never have won the ballon d'or by being fit one week and being on the side line the next 3 weeks and missing over 100 games through injuries. It disrupts the flow momentum and progress of the team when we are all doing well working with a plan and a set up and then someone suddenly gets injured. Pedri's injury is becoming too frequent and if he's not careful its easy to lose your spot in this team regardless how talented you are
@@rolandsmith5765nah Pedri fully fit always starts over gavi in the big games, and deservedly so. He just unfortunately needs to have his game time managed like only playing 2-3 full 90’s in a row max, rest, etc
If Ilkay would not start Pedri should. Gavi is a disruptor and a darkhorse in attack. Too valuable imo. He should start.
