  • Understanding The Basics of English (cue ball spin) in Pool is key before you can do anything with it. This is so misunderstood that many novice players are totally lost about the concepts, even when they THINK they understand them. One of the most important amateur pool lessons is to understand these concepts.

    Thank you again for your help. I would like to let your followers that using English will not help you unless you practice in small steps. Practice by yourself and don't think that you mastered English after making 1 shot after missing 15 -30 shots. Perfect practice makes practice. Small steps.

    A great term that I picked up from snooker is running and check side (English). It gives me a great mental visual on how the cue ball will run off the cushion.

    : ) LOL --- Oh Boy! Things to appreciate... Folks, listen to what this man has to say! Watch! and PAY ATTENTION!!! The graphics on the screen (cue ball with red dot), relate it to what he calls out (type of spin/english) and watch the reaction of the cue ball. Do that --- then you do it on yer favorite table. You'll not get it or learn it, if you don't do it yourself. Practice! Practice only benefits you... and if ya don't, it benefits whoever you are playing. Thanks Bryan! Be Safe

    Hello Brian. My name is Buddy. I’ve been playing pool for about a year now. The guys I play with he been playing for quite a while. I’ve been watching CZcams videos and I found FX billiards to be the best for me. I was actually able to win five games in a row against one of those opponents. I really appreciate your and they’ve helped my game quite a bit. I was wondering where I could purchase the elevated ball rack you were using in one of your videos basics of spin. It looks like it would help me get a tight rack more easily. Thank you for helping me elevate my game. I really do appreciate it.

      I hope to put something together soon. I’ve seen some pretty bad advice floating around like “aim to miss on this side or aim to miss on that side” - that’s not the way we play shots with spin.

    Hey Brain i have a question, I've been playing pool for along time majority on bar boxes, i have been playing more on 9 foot diamonds preparing for a local tournament that's on 9 foot tables, what would you suggest working on when transitioning to a 9 foot with tighter pockets vs a bar box? Been watching you for awhile and I've included your drills into my practice regimen, thanks for all the videos and the help as always.

    • @FXBilliards
      @FXBilliards  Před 2 měsíci +1

      The best advice I can give you is to put in as much time on 9 foot tables as you can- all the time.

    You mentioned the cue and shaft you are using. What kind of tip are you using? I currently use a Kamui SS, but thinking about changing to something else. I am pretty good at draw, left english, and right english. My issue is running english. I seem to miss the ball and make the cue ball in the pocket where the object ball was supposed to go. Have been doing that for years and haven't figured out why… Any ideas? Thanks.

    • @FXBilliards
      @FXBilliards  Před měsícem +1

      I use victory, soft, and Kamui soft. If I understand your question correctly, I think the solution is shooting hundreds of the shots and paying close attention to the effects on the cable mini players gauge there success or failure by too small number.

  • @rickwilliams3515
    @rickwilliams3515 Před 3 měsíci +1

    I watch tons of top players matches and they all seem to be aiming so low on the cueball? You are showing lots with top spin. I try to emulate what I see so I am always spinning the cueball with draw. Wish you would have shown like the path with the low back spin compared to the top running and inside. I make mistakes on the decision of what to put on the cueball way to often. Always watch and learn from you and appreciate your videos!

    • @FXBilliards
      @FXBilliards  Před 3 měsíci +2

      You see players, aiming low on the CB, but not to move forward around the table on a multi rail shot. The better you get the more likely you are to be playing below center of the Cueball - but for multi rail shots you need to be above center unless you are drawing into that rail. .

    So how do you like that rack? Been thinking about buying one, but not sure if it's worth it. I hear it's great and I also hear it's just a gimmicky sales thing. Trying to find the perfect rack lol. Not a fan of the magic rack, so looking for other supposed best options. I know that's not what this video is about, but I saw the rack and had to ask.

    • @FXBilliards
      @FXBilliards  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I love the rack - and like most expensive, quality items, it’s only a gimmick sales thing to people who can’t adore it or won’t pay extra for quality. If it wasn’t great, I wouldn’t use it every day - and I use it every day. I know people who keep theirs in their car so they can use it wherever they go. That says a lot.

    • @Roberto-oi7lm
      @Roberto-oi7lm Před 3 měsíci

      Try this with your Magic Rack. Fill a conventional rack with the balls and keep it well clear of the spot. Position the Magic Rack with the nose of it over the spot. Lift the conventional rack slightly off the table so it won't disturb the Magic rack by scraping on the cloth. Roll the rack of balls forward. Stop when the one ball is over the nose cut-out of the Magic rack. Sometimes the balls all simply click into place and sometimes you have to push them forward a tiny bit or (if you over shot) drag the conventional rack back a tiny bit. In two or three seconds your balls should all nestle into the cut-outs of the Magic Rack at which time you can remove the conventional rack and get ready to break.
      Most people fiddle around trying to fill the Magic Rack by hand and it takes forever. Using a conventional rack to help position the balls means you can rack the balls quickly but still have the advantage of the Magic Rack which boils down to insuring all the balls are touching one another. Consequently, when you break, the balls scatter properly.
      The Magic Rack really does improve your break and once you learn to load it as quickly as setting up a conventional rack, you'll thank me.

    Also I'm still confused about the "English" thing. I grew up playing like you explained, hearing everything being called "English". Later I learn that it's just spin that is English. But I'm confused still. Is anything that makes the ball spin left or right called English? Or just center left and center right spin, is English? Or is everything that is left and right of the cue, English. And everything that is center top, middle and bottom, not English? Is that how that works? So top center is not English because that's rolling and not spinning correct? But top left is English because it's spinning and not rolling? Am I on the right track here?

    • @FXBilliards
      @FXBilliards  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes top left top right bottom left bottom right center side left or right those are all English. It’s just center ball top spin and center ball backspin that are not “ English. “
