    I am always amazed at how terrible the process looks - like I can't imagine this looking good. Then all of a sudden you are done and the piece is just the coolest thing ever! Amazing!

    Your soft voice, the noises and the atmosphere of the video is an ASMR trigger for me. I could listen to this over and over again.
    I'm not too good with handcrafts like this, but I may give it a try after seeing this. :)

    Thanks! It's nice to see how other people do them and get different ideas. I love the use of paper for the skin texture and how you do the spikes. Can't wait for part 2! I'm curious to see why you use the one with alcohol ink if you are going to paint over it.

      Thanks Sally. I sometimes use the different colours just to help me add variety, but you certainly could do it in one colour and paint as needed. There are no rules! :D

    Hello Patricia. I very much like this piece and also the mica mash cane!!! I work in a medium that is similar to and different from poly clay. In my latest video, the inspiration was from your work. You received credit in the beginning of my video. I also very much like your beta fish. Thank you very much my dear, you do good work. Blessings. Namaste.

    Hi Patricia! I've been watching your work with Polymer clay. You are one of the best out there for sure! Your work is impeccable!! No rough edges, everything is cut and placed so beautifully. No uneven thickness in your snakes, etc. I recently bought my first pack of Premo 18 carat gold. What is the advantage to using this, vs. painting something gold? And for that matter, why not use all gray or white and paint everything? I refer to any pieces, not just this sculpture.

    • @patriciaroberts-thompson
      @patriciaroberts-thompson  Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks Maggie, actually there is no advantage to using coloured clay or painting your pieces, except that coloured clay will never wear off, and painted surfaces can. Really, it's a personal preference, and both ways have their advantages, and disadvantages. People often find the metallic clays are not bright enough, and will add metallic paint to enhance the effect. Just use what you like, the paints, or clay is just a tool to realize your vision. Have fun!

    • @MHarenArt
      @MHarenArt Před 6 lety

      Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly! So far I have only used white or gray and paint everything and have had pretty good success. I posted one of my 8x10 Journal covers (Dragon Flye with cattails) at your FB Page. It was all grey clay and all hand painted. But yes, paint can chip/wear off. I'm looking forward to watching more of your tutorials. You are very pleasant to listen to and again, your work is just impeccable! Wish you the very best!

    Dear Patricia :) I made this pendant some 2 years ago, it turned out very nice and soon somebody grabbed it :) Now I'm trying to recreated it - I don't remember what I did to the back.... How did your back of the pendant turn out after firstly texturing the back, then pressing crumpled paper onto the front, roler and being attached quite firmly to the tile (I get uneaven smoothing) ? Or did you have to glue (?) another texture layer to the back and bake ? I do hope you'll be able to come back to polymer clay, even if I admire your felt creatures sooo very much ! You're not only a talented artist in everything you do but also you're one of the best tutors on YT, and that's not easy to find

    patricia do you like to let your piece cool in the oven or do you take it right out since you have already baked it for an hour?

    • @patriciaroberts-thompson
      @patriciaroberts-thompson  Před 7 lety

      I have a Black and Decker convection oven, which I usually set for 1 hour 6 min, . I put my pieces in the cold oven ( almost always ) My oven turns off automatically. Sometimes I leave them in to cool- sometimes I take them out right away. I haven't noticed a difference either way. If I'm doing a bracelet I like to take them out while still hot, because I sometimes will shape them to my wrist as they cool. Or get a shape I like and hold it in cold water to help it keep that shape. Anything with glass, though must cool down on it's own to avoid cracking

    • @patriciaroberts-thompson
      @patriciaroberts-thompson  Před 5 lety

      Laura Legge , yes I like to cover my work with an aluminum baking tin. I cut the sides so I can arch it over my work, useful when you have taller pieces to cover. I used to paint, wood carve, stained glass and lately needle felt

    I tried sculpy clay to may a mermaid and while she turned out awesome, her hair pieces popped off. Is there something I can do to keep that from happening when using oven bake clay?

    • @patriciaroberts-thompson
      @patriciaroberts-thompson  Před 7 lety +1

      Thank you for your comment Heather, If you use a stronger clay, such as Premo, Fimo or Kato, it should help with the breakage problem. SculpeyIII is quite brittle after baking. Any clay that you use should be cured at the correct temperature for that clay- you will need an oven thermometer to be sure! I cure my pieces for much longer than recommended because I find that they become a bit flexible, and much less likely to break. ! hour at the correct temperature does wonders! Hope that helps

    These are so pretty. Love em! Does baking for 1 hour burn the clay? Ive had mine for like 15 & it burned but wondering if its just my oven.

    • @patriciaroberts-thompson
      @patriciaroberts-thompson  Před 7 lety +1

      Your oven is probably baking too hot, an oven thermometer will tell you the actual temperature. If you bake at the correct temperature, you can bake it as long as you want too without burning. Not all ovens are so reliable though. I just find a longer bake time results in a stronger product- but you need to be sure that the temperature is correct- can't trust the oven

  • @stringsmom67
    @stringsmom67 Před 4 lety +1

    Hi, quick question, when you go to bake the eye how to you remove it from the tile without messing up the shape? Just found this tutorial and am currently working on my own.

    • @patriciaroberts-thompson
      @patriciaroberts-thompson  Před 4 lety

      stringsmom67 , you can use your blade part way under the clay then again from the other side until it comes free of the tile. Or just bake it on the tile without disturbing the piece and add another layer to the back. That works well if you want to sandwich a bail between the two layers. Add liquid clay between the layers and texture the back slightly, it makes it stick less to your skin so it’s more comfortable
