I use the undefined rest period as part of circuit training in my home gym. I use time based intervals, for example, I'll row for 5 minutes and then get off and do pushups and 2 or 3 other exercises, then get back on the rower and complete the circuit 4 - 6 times for a total workout of up to an hour.... BUT here's another idea which you may find useful. I found myself obsessed with the numbers on the monitor, and had been rowing myself into an over-trained state and causing injuries. I might come into my workout with the idea of rowing at a moderate pace, but soon find myself trying to beat the numbers again. Solution: row without the numbers. How: Set a 20 second interval (that's the lowest you can set) and undefined rest period. Now you can row without seeing your stroke rate and pace or calories or watts. After the 20 second interval you row for the 10 min rest period, then it automatically starts the 20 second interval again, followed by another 10 minute rest period. Doing it this way you don't have to touch any buttons. You're just adding 20 seconds onto the time every 10 minutes. You can still see your heart rate and meters, so you can still go for a meter goal. I'll go for 7,000 m - 12,000 m rows using this method. Rowing this way you can really concentrate on your technique and not obsess with performance. It's a great idea for recovery rowing. You can watch TV and not worry about your performance. I always use a heart rate monitor when I row, so I'll set a max heart rate for my session. On recovery rows that will be about 130 bpm (I'm 57).

Got a concept 2 Rower as a Christmas present for myself! I am now part of the rowing fraternity! Yay! Can’t stay of it. I have a multi gym I use but realised my cardio was crap; after watching DH for a while I added the rower to my routine. My first try on xmas day was a measly 8:02 for the 2000m hopefully I can improve on this. I used weight training and intermittent fasting as a lifestyle to drop from 117kg to 98kg but plateaued. So hopefully incorporating HIIT rowing will help me move past it. All this changes was spurred by HBP which doctors wanted to put me on medication and I opted for diet changes and exercise. Keep up with the videos.

Thank you for telling us about this, I am sure that like many, I had not come across this feature, even though I have a PM5 and keep its programming up to date. This certainly useful when doing circuit training. All the best!

Thanks... btw I was told when rowing you should avoid locking your knees(as you seem to be)..

We suggest extending the leg fully Test. It means your quads, hammies, and glutes are all engaged so it creates a more forceful leg drive (which is where 60% of your force production comes from).

who told you that? I disagree that you don't lock your knees.

Do you have any idea on how to erase all of the workouts from the memory? My issue is that I purchased a concept rower and I didn't set the date before starting to use it. The factory date was set back at 2016 and its logged a workout as haven taken place in 2016. I have now changed the change current 2019 and it looks a bit weird have a single workout from 2016 in the log and was wondering if there is any way to wipe it? Thanks
