Is the 2022 Subaru BRZ a BETTER sports car to BUY than a Toyota GR 86?

- Äas pĆidĂĄn 7. 04. 2022
- The BRZ gets redesigned by Subaru for 2022. On the outside there is a new front fascia, side sills, wheels, and rear bumper. On the outside you will be greeted by a 7in digital gauge cluster, 8in infotainment system, and first time ever center console lid. Under the hood is a 2.4L flat-4 that produces 228HP & mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2022 Subaru BRZ a BETTER sports car to BUY than a Toyota GR 86?

Joe's smiles and laughs are so genuine and contagious, I love it! I can't help but smile and feel like I'm really riding along with him in the car. Keep up the good work!
That really means the world! I love sharing my car passion with you!
These cars are so much fun to drive. Good job to Toyota and Subaru on this joint venture and thanks to both of them for giving us a manual as well. They still know how to make enthusiasts happy
I totally agree with you!
Honestly would rather see a Toyota turbo motor in here if it doesn't mess with the balance. The way the h4 makes power is jarring and not very sporty
Girls car
@@cwx8 You're asking for too much for them to make a brand new engine when the GR Corolla is going to be a thing
I bought this exact spec about 3 months ago. Added an exhaust. It is by far the best car I have ever owned.
Compared toâŠ
No doubt both are fun cars. In my experience driving a small car feels like youâre going faster than you really are. Thanks for the ride Joe. Nice job you and Lori!! đđ»đđ»đșđž
You are so very right Larry! Thanks for taking the ride with us!
I use to have a GMC 2500HD pickup and when I'd jump in my girlfriends Acura RSX, I couldn't stop smiling haha it felt like I was in a go kart in the city and that was just a stock RSX, can't imagine how fun these must be! Can't wait to get the opportunity/time to drive one đ€đ»
I have MX5 2lt. The BRZ has always been a temptress and my fav out of the two BRZ / GR86, the BRZ I like being more understated. Would have to be in manual for me. Only down side here in the UK we're not getting the 22 BRZ đ I'm glad to see lighter materials used in cockpit as can be a bit dark. A sun roof would be great but you'd lose ridgidicity (is that a word?). Great review. This car give miles of smiles. Nicccce! Shout out to you both Joe and Lori đ
I believe the word is rigidity but yeah man a small sunroof would be a cherry on top not a giant one that softens the rigidity and stiffness of the upper body ! I hope you guys are able to import them asap from other parts of the world theyâre sick
I liked that the price tag on Scion that you saw on the window sticker was tax and everything included and not a penny more . So what you saw is what you payed no haggling no staying at the dealership 5 plus hours just straight forward . I wish all cars where sold this way . Yes I know that this is Subaru but just wanted to mention that .
Another awesome video, thanks Joe and Lori. Personally I will be purchasing the GR86 but itâs always smart to do your research on both vehicles.
The new redesigned 2022 Subaru BRZ is awesome especially in the RED color.Such a fun car to drive!!!
Excellent car review,. Thank you so much Joe and Lori đȘđ
Good job on the back to back videos coming out this week!
You got it my friend!
Iâm so excited about this car. Well done Subaru and Toyota. This is so refreshing from the usual crossover/SUVs. I love 2 door coupes/sports car and always had one.
Iâm here from Australia love watching your channel n detailed video for cars.
Thank you Lori & Joe! đ
Awesome review Joe and Lori as always! On throttle!!
Heck yeah man! Thanks for taking the drive with me!
I like this car. It does look good in that red.
It really pops a lot.
@@RaitisRides I argree with you
The red is pretty damn amazing! Can we just get one in each color!?!! ahahaaa!
@@R1Armadill0 lol. That whould be alot of money
Great review !! I really love this car . Really made for driving enthusiasts. When on throttle it sound so amazing !!
I am glad that you really are digging this BRZ Frank!
I do love the 86/BRZ. Hopi g I get to drive it one day. Looking forward to seeing you put it through its paces. I thought the spontaneous acknowledgement of the garbage bag was funny. You and Lori take care.
Another fantastic video đ„đđŒ
Thank you for another great review.
This looks like a great, fun little car- thanks for the review, Joe.
I get mine on Monday , canât wait !!!!
That's exciting! Congrats and enjoy!
@@bryanme5771 hey thanks !! Iâm super stoked
Hey Joe,
The very first thing that I thought of when I started watching your video was that the BRZ should be in World Rally Blue, and then, you said the exact same thing. Great minds think alike. Lol đ
You better believe it man!
Nice car and just a little bit of fun times nice design and style Thank you Lori and Joe have a great day be safe happy healthy
That handling looked super sharp in the drive camera.

Awesome review!
I got the same in Racing Blue. I love ringing it out more than my Acura TLX A-SPEC AWD.
Joe and Lori and keep up the work and I love the video lot real true đ
Hopefully the GR Corolla takes attention away from this car so I can get one. This car reminds me of my 240SX hatch.
It won't. Toyota just said they want GR Corolla to be limited. It WILL be freaking expensive and very limited just like the GR Yaris.
Getting GR86 and BRZ will be easier when the chip shortage ends.
I believe itâs hard to compare the GR Corolla to a GR 86. Both serve different audience. But you canât go wrong with either.
@@aeronYTco toyota will only make 6600 GR Corolla. And they'll be expensive AF. So the GR Corolla target is not the economy fun market. People should realize that.
Theyâll build 6500 for the first year. Im thinking they come out with special editions every couple years to keep peopleâs interest.
Im just looking for a fun daily, so I was being hopeful. I might wait for the new Miata to make a decision.
corolla đđ not surprised youâd say that
I have one just got it last Saturday Ice silver limited 6-speed . Such an awesome car
Honestly both gr86/brz are great cars. i can't wait to see the future of these cars
They will be electric for sure.
@@RaitisRides Disturbing as it is, you're prolly right. 2018 STi here, and I have always loved the BRZ! I don't need one... I WANT ONE!
@@RaitisRides Which hurts my feelings lol.
@@RaitisRides please God no
there is a blue one of these near me with like 6 thousand miles on it that they are trying to sell for 38k before taxes. They must have lost there mind.
Vehicle scalpers. People are legit buying cars, putting a few hundred miles on them, then selling them to a different dealer to make a profit. It's ridiculous. Even 2017-2020 BRZs are selling for over retail.
People who look down their noses at the AT in this car, haven't actually tried it. With the paddle shifters, it's seriously underrated for not being a DCT. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either transmission option in this gen BRZ. Stick and paddles should unite instead of fight.
This BRZ looks so much nicer than the new WRX! In fact on the side vents of the car near the door this and the Toyota reminds me of an ISF!
Awesome stuff
with you standing next to it, it looks like a match car lol
I'm glad you reviewd this automatic since I live in the busy city and dont want a manuel in busy traffic
Manuel?
I purchased one yesterday and so far love it.
Iâd have a GR86.
We wonât be getting the BRZ here in Europe.
This is very true Dave
Car is for girl
I would love to test drive this car one day. Looks good!
I have the same blue "On Throttle" shirt. It looks great and the material is very nice!
Looks like a ton of fun Joe. Love the color Iâd go BRZ.
Man so many options right now...GR86, BRZ, GR-Four, Nissan Z. I think I'm going to go GR-Four...it's not very often the US gets a rally car..so I got to support that.
Only problem is there is no inventory anywheređ© itâs been impossible get my hands on one
Love this car. Do you think you'll get a chance to test a new manual model?
thanks a lot for your video: it's the best on yt... really! i've to questions for you while i'm waiting for the release in my country... focus 1: automatic gearbox still have the scooter effect? it's enough fast and sporty? it's comfortable in traffic jam? focus 2: the most important... i'm an old driver, with many track days with honda type R in my experience, but my country is small with small and bad streets... is it this GR86 dangerous? if i am in a stop and i have to turn left 90° very quickly, is there the problem to drift? is it dangerous at full throttle by stop on straight way? i need to know if is a dangerous rear traction coz it could be my first rear traction car....
I would go BRZ, because I like the front bumper better, and it kind of looks like a MK4 Supra from the front.
I preferred the GR86 front grill. However is almost 4k more here in Australia so ordered a white BRZ S
You're a great reviewer ! Thanks !đ
I love the design and pricing and character of this car. I'm surprised at the mpg's.
I liked and wanted GR86, but I can't order one and available ones have crazy mark up. Quote I got had 4.5k in markup. For BRZ I placed an order for 2023 model year, expected to be delivered in August at invoice price (I used Subaru VIP program). I would probably end up putting new sway bars for sure, may be a supercharger in future đ.
Just drove the GR86 through Kanan CNYN and PCH HWY1 and it was a blast. 6spd.M/T makes the car a lot more fun IMO Good bang for the buck and very connected to the road.
Great review as always Rati! I would go with the Toyota GR 86! â€â€đđđđđđđ
Your route looks fun and A LOT like a road I used to take between Spring Hill and Dade City until mother nature started trying to kill me down there. I had a snake fall out of a tree on my windshield, hit a tortoise at night that did $2K damage bouncing up into the wheel well and kamikazee Bambi's in an area that looks just like that!
Haha! That is wild. Idk how y'all live in Florida
Way too much craziness out there
Hi Joe, I love this carđ€© can you review the Nissan GTR Nismo please đđ
I think I prefer the gr86 based on the front and the spoiler.
Unrelated, Joe you should post an update vid on your 350r ⊠love that car man! đ„
I am so relieved now that I know I can carry my Chobani with me in this new BRZ!!
I just love seeing lower power, smaller sports cars... they're a dying breed and people who are power obsessed (it's not got 300bhp not interested tyoes) are missing out on the gems in this world... these and the GT86 are like a natural successor to the RX8 which for me was the last great handling sports car that didn't have turbos'and stupid amounts of power (over powered really)... love it, hope they're popular!
This car absolutely deserves a Brembo red BBK package on all four corners, and slightly more sport-tuned suspension. Make it an optional package for 2023. I agree that the GR86 just looks better. The TRD parts rollout for the GR86 has been delayed and rather disappointing in North America, and I do not understand why. The door hinge stiffeners should be standard.
Joe I canât wait for you to get your hands on a GR Corolla the new Nissan Z and obviously the BRZ, This car looks like a fun little car again I just wish it had a little bit more power!
I drove the 2023 BRZ (w/6-spd MT) this past fall before the snow flew. Tried the Premium (cloth interior) and the Ultimate (leather/ultrasuede interior). Definitely prefer the leather interior, seats just feel better. Fun factor was off the charts for me, as it's been awhile since I drove a sporty car! I found the brakes were a little lacking though, could have definitely used some Brembos. Wanted to try the AT, but none available, very hard to find anywhere in Canada! Looked at ordering one......good luck!! Eventually went with ordering the 2024 Mustang EB in Vapor Blue Metallic w/Nite Pony Package, Active Exhaust, and over the top racing stripe (black/red). A bit more money than the BRZ, but much nicer fit and finish with tons more space (not to mention power & torque)! If I had the money, I'd buy a BRZ as well, who knows, maybe I'll win the lottery.......
Beautiful looking car!!!
Hopefully this generation goes on for as long as possible
PLEASE review a 2022 Mitsubishi mirage G4 SE
Whatâs your choice between a used Supra 2.0 with some mileages on it and a BRZ auto now? Appreciate!
Hey Joe and Lori, Sunday, April 10th is my Birthday. Do you think you can review a Lexus or Toyota?
I prefer the look of the last of the previous gen BRZs, but a base level trim 2017 BRZ manual with ~35k miles cost like, $28k right now. It'd be rad if prices fit those went down, especially considering the new car is better in almost every way..
Can you do this for the forthcoming Civic Type R too please?
I would pick the one that gets here first , though I would go with the 86 if I had to choose between them sitting in front of me available for purchase.
This car is really an affordable Porsche. My manual weighs less than toyota said at 2798 will a full tank of gas. Simply amazing power to weight ratio of 12lbs per HP for a NA car. 2023 GR Corolla is at 10.83 with 300HP.
I was just thinking it's shaped like a Porsche.
@@Sharmichelle3 handles like one too
And once the warranties expire you can slap on a turbo and beat the power to weight
I just got me a trueno blue premium MT gr86. Fun little whip car
I like the new face. The slightly longer nose really works.
It sounds good. I like this.
Iâd probably go with the 86. The BRZ front end looks like itâs smiling.
Yeah but the eyebrows white part of the DRL make it look menacing. Like devils look while smiling
Would you rather choose the new WRX or BRZ joe?
Both great cars. Professional says GR86 is a little more responsive in performance?
Interesting design with the touchscreen. They gave it enough room to be integrated but still didn't integrate it. Doesn't look bad, but it kind of makes it seem like it's aftermarket.
I agree, the Gen 1 touchscreen is better integrated.
Joe loves the twisties đ
đđ» Can't wait for the Corolla Grs drive!
Brz or 86 is honestly just which front fascia you dig more, pretty similar there is nothing that stands out largely significant. I prefer the 86 look much much more, but brz would still be dope toođđŒ
Their suspension setups are different. Subaru also has aluminum pieces instead of steel that Toyota uses. I assume only back to back drives could reveal this.
@@gs98999 and yet the gr is said to drive a tad bit more sporty from car reviewers and the Subaru a tad bit more compliant but itâs almost negligible
I drive both manual & auto - but my eyesight has declined and my daydreaming has inclined. Iâm old enough to reminisce:)
So automatic with safety features for me. For you too if your in my trajectory/vicinityâŠ
Mastering the paddle shifting will be my âchallengeâ. Downshifting to rev match the computer:)
I can understand where you are coming from.
can the trunk fit 2 medium luggage with the seats down?
I like The GR86 Better Then BRZ because GR86 has GR86 logo On Push to Start button and BRZ has A Standard no logo on Push to Start button also I like the GR86 Duck Bill Spoiler that give more down force when driving and it's makes it more fun to drive Then BRZ
This thing looks good as. Completely sold out in Australia. Joe, can you get your hands on a 2022 WRX Wagon for a review ?
I think he would love to review that vehicle, but I think that the WRX Wagon is only exclusively sold in Australia đ
@@Michael-vt5sj True. If Joe wanted to review one, heâd have to go to Ozzyland to do so.

Finally someone having fun in the Automatic! I canât drive a manual due to knee injury and have been distraught as every reviewer disses it so much
Yes you can still have fin. I am sorry to hear bout your knee.
Yea the smaller cars like this are always fun to drive. Itâs clean
Such a great Sports Car!
Iâm waiting for somebody to fit that GR turbo 3 cylinder into the 86.
I must agree the gr86 front looks a bit sportier but brz front looks lower and wider thanks to that lower grill hence I would pick brz
What a beautyâ€
Love this car!
That color pops ! I like more affordable sports !
Is that front plate holder integrated into the bumper?
Deal breaker for me, I donât require one.
No climbing in back seat?
Huge disappointment with mpg on this car. The larger eco boost 3 pedal Mustang is better?
One of these or ND Miata RF?
I still remember, that the Subaru BRZ of the Future. And I like a lot of more Toyota GT86, Scion FRS, & Toyota GR86.
But it's been a while for along time ago for the Future of the Modified Cars in the World.
Is it noisy inside to drive? Sounds like you have to yell at the camera above the road noise.
Why the breaking lights are only one bulb I will never understand. Same with the partial lighting for the daytime running lights. Really makes this car look bad.
I'm new in this brand and will soon be receiving mine but what is the difference between snow and track buttons does it change the speed
That is great Oscar! Congrats!
@@RaitisRides thank you. I really love driving it.
