The late Pandit Sharda Sahai is regarding as one of the most pinnacle leaders in the Tabla art form, classed in the category of the likes of Pandit Anokhelal and Thirkwa Khan Sahib.
It is true that once in Bombay India, a music festival took place. After hearing Pandit Ji play, Ustad Allah Rakha Khan was so wonder struck that he refused to play after him and packed his bags up and left. Pandit Sharda Sahai was known to have practiced Tabla for 16 hours per day consecutively, for two years. The renowned artist Swapan Chaudhri once remarked "He is the true Pandit of Tabla".

Pandit Ji is one of those rare tabla soloists that leave you speechless. Glad to see that his son, Pandit Sanju Sahai is pushing his own limits to uphold his family tradition.
Pandit Sanju Sahai who's name is Vishnu Sahai is not the son of Pandit Sharda Sahai. Infact, he is his nephew.

"He was the recipient of numerous awards and honours from his own country and from all over the world, including the title ‘Tabla Samrat’. Pt. Sharda Sahai was awarded the Fellowship of Leeds College of Music (alongside musical luminaries such as Sir John Dankworth and Django Bates). His recordings by the prolific WOMAD label and the release in 1983 of ‘Art of the Benares Baj’ earned him a worldwide listenership. In 2004 he performed a tabla duet with his son, Sanju Sahai, at Saptak Music Festival, resulting in a landmark music release ‘Gurukul - Lineage of Benares Tabla’."
@105968825690161721552 Wrong but right in heart !He's the nephew of pt Sharda Sahai JI ,who had only 2 daughters but grew up Sanju Ji "Vishnu Sahai" like his son, as his brother died when Sanju was very young,my teacher is a senior student of great late Sharda Sahai Ji and practiced many times with Sanju on his knees !!!
