Miichael, you got that Woo 300b... use it!!! ZMFs are made for tubes
Yes! Agree. It's one of my favored pairings so far, just remember to set the impedance to high.
You can EQ to bring up the sub-bass
Bio Cellulose drivers sound good.
Fostex 900 mk2 in the white/sapphire tuning is a good choice.
When someone says they aren't hyper-detailed I gotta cringe a bit every time, but I get you, they are no 4k+ planar or Utopia etc... BUT they STILL
are extremely detailed heaphones compared to everything else on the market (in the middle between HD800 and Verite).
What these do goes well beyond pure technicalities, tho the combined effect of giant Atrium-like soundstage, very well separated 3D-positioning and clarity of imaging puts them in a league of its own, they have a gigantic and perfectly separated bass - never heard that effect before and a dynamic(titan mesh) slam even an Utopia can't follow.
What these can do when dialed in perfectly(right source/dac/amp(tubes)/pads/mesh can only be described as sounding supremely "real" as in a trumpet sounds like a freaking trumpet, the most realistic rendition of a piano I have ever heard Macy Gray delivering a private ear-whispering gig in an Atrium just for me. :)
@2:20 - 2:38 yeah.... That's *exactly* how I ended up purchasing my own pair of ZMf Auteur Classic😅😂🤣
I would suggest you try the Universe Hybrid or the Auteur Hybrid for a more even tonality and a bit more air/soundstage plus a tad more subbass.
Have to add that I am using the Titan mesh which gives more lower highs and more slam/dynamics.
I have the Atrium so I can say this with confidence: well done on a perfectly honest first impressions video! Now, aside from "try these with tubes" and pads to suit your preference (Auteur leather for sub-bass), I will add that this driver DOES improve with burn in. Even Zach recommends it. I don't usually believe in it, but with the Atrium I experienced it. I think it's particular to bio-cellulose drivers. So please do that sound check after some good use... then rotate them out a bit, eliminate brain burn in bias and boom...
Yup, absolutely must be heard with a good tube amp, like all ZMF 'phones.
Yeah, I have the KAO, and I am not sure it is brain burn-in or something else. I still don't think mine are "burned in" yet- had them for around 2 1/2 weeks. The grille gave it away : )
Burn in is just another way manufacturers manipulate people to keep their headphones and not exercise short return policies. Nothing more then “brain adjustment”.
Will these be good headphones for genres like hip hop, ragae, Mexican music ??
@@soulja617 They are greart for everything. Its no Susvara or Utopia detail retrieval wise but its insanely well tuned very agreeable natural sound that you will struggle to find anywhere else. ZMF makes headphones to listen to your music not your gear.
Dang, the LCD-4 was on sale recently for the Audeze b-stock Sale for $2499 last week.
some used ones go for 1850
I have a pair of ZMF VC and that is my one big complaint. Sub bass is just not rich enough a lot of the time. I ended up using the Universe Solid pads to give the most bass. I actually got a bottle head crack to test a higher impedance than the liquid platinum I was using. Still just not enough bass for my preference. They sound great in most other ways though. I think they are very comfortable too.
I heard these last week and sub-bass was way more rolled off than VC, IMO.
I own the 1266 Phi TC and found the VC to be a nice compliment to the abyss. Love the mids from the VC especially on tubes.
@@InternetUser-d7swell they are closed so that probably explains why you thought that
Wow I am going through the very same thing with the Atrium!
Except I [naively] think that one, especially a ltd edition, won't depreciate too much. :)
Got one already. :)
Can you review the verite closed.
Though I was watching myself during the opening 😂
Congrats!
If you told me you were 'z reviews' dad, I'd believe you.
You did so good at explaining the sound you earned a sub!
Awesome, thank you!
@@DirectorsGarage No problem!! I’m going to order the Atrium today, What ear pad material do you recommend me to get if I want to bring out the bass ??? I also see perforated options but I don’t know exactly what that means and if it’s worth the extra $60-$70
When you order from ZMF you get 2 pads with the headphone- and you get to choose from their entire collection. I would call them and describe the sound you are seeking- they will recommend which will be best. They are SUPER helpful.
Michael I'm super excited to see this review. It's just turning 4 am here and I'm getting ready to head into Boston to work on the Green line expansion, to make the big bucks, so I can afford this exact headphone! You're doing an amazing job as always 👏 ❤ 🙌
they look fine but I will be surprised if they can match much less exceed the Verite closed.
It happend to me I bought Smsl vmv d2 based on review of one of the CZcamsrs, was hoping for "best of Deltasigma and R2r word" all I received was Deltasigma Dac at 2400$ Aud , lucky for me I baged the seller for refund after 1 day of usage.
Learn from me: There is NO delta sigma analog sound. At least at this moment.
T+A DAC 200?
You talk my mind!
Michael, did you do your first run to test the Atrium’s with the Ferrum Stack?
Yes, I ran it on the Ferrum Stack. Will report what I've discovered tomorrow on the livestream.
@@DirectorsGarage. Terrific. I’ll tune in tonight for that. I think you’ve got a great pick up here. So curious how you will like the ZMF Atrium with the Euphonious tube sound! :)
Hey man. Just discovered you, whilst surfing for atrium reviews. Like your energy, enthusiasm and style.Oh and hi from Australia! subbed
I'm having such a hard time choosing which ZMF model. I want Stellias (or something close) that aren't Focal, basically.
Hi Disco! Thanks for stopping by. The Verite Closed would be the closest ZMF model to what you're looking for.
Update. Atrium closed
@@chronometa I have a Verite Closed and Caldera. Absolutely love both! I'd really like to try an Atrium someday though, open or closed.
@@disco4535 How do those two compare? Which one is more musical and more slammy?
Did you ever find out if there's a pad swap or EQ that "fixed" the sub-bass for you?
Yes, thick perforated velour pads! 😊
@@DirectorsGarage Lovely, and that's without any significant drawbacks? Would you mind telling me which brand and name of the pads? :)
@@Rubgud95 They are ZMF, but I’m on the road this week, I can’t tell ya.
Heard these last week and hate to say, really disappointed. Mids sounded super odd, treble had a "fizz", and bass was dull. I'm thinking it was the particular pair I had given how much praise they're getting. For me, hard pass. And I love ZMF.
Where did you hear them and what did you hear them on? If it's a dealer we can give them some suggestions on amps and such.
I "enjoy" your videos. You have a GREAT sense of humor.

Are these better than the Arya stealth ?
definitely better build and package 😂, Hifiman take a laugh making money for plastic
@@soulfulfool I'm not talking about build. You can hate somewhere else because hifiman make some amazing headphones.
@@erikleonardi6642 I own Arya but im not ignorant like you, for that price they should have solid build
@@soulfulfool bruh you think I'm ignorant ??? I've had an audeze and focal that died on me even though they feel really solid, but a few of my hifiman and Sennheiser never did. No problems on the headphones at all. And now I have the Arya stealth that's perfectly fine as well.
@@erikleonardi6642 I personally hate the look and feel of the Aryas and will never buy one again. That said , they do sound amazing !
For some reason throughout this review I kept thinking, "Oh, so this is a Meze Elite for 60% of the price." Am I way off?
You will be able to sell these for 2500 all day long so not a huge L.
