Best highlight reel of this match I’ve seen. It’s the only one that truly shows that the US controlled most of the game and had Germany on their heels. Arguably the best team performance ever put in by any USMNT. That German squad was world class and steam rolling opponents and the US controlled much of that game and did more than enough to have earned a win. You can see the absolute relief in the German players after that final whistle.
I remember this game (because I'm old now) and it was kinda/sorta like the England/Netherlands games this year... USA looked great at times and yet no result. We were naive this year but 2002 was a straight up robbery, though.
@@chrisschaller9547Unlike the current one with American star talents, but with a weak mentality and little courage to face the great powers of world football.
Watching these highlights makes me realize just how in control the US was all game; I was not even two years old when this game happened so I didn’t get to watch it live, but looking at these highlights I can’t believe they didn’t win with the amount of chances they had
We were robbed,I usually love the Scots, but Hugh Dallas was a blind man that day with his bull💩 refereeing. Ooh how can I not forget Torsting Frings you cheat, but you know what, that entire performance by our USMNT saved the MLS and I’d argue propelled the EPL to be televised in the U.S.
Yes we were not clinical but if Germany had any other keeper but Kahn, we would have advanced. We; will see about the current crop, but right now, that group was the best USMNT ever.
The Germans were dead tired when the game came to the end. German newspapers quoted their players admitting how glad they were to finally hear the last whistle because the Americans wore them out and had them on their heels. If not for that handball that wasn't called a penalty and that lack of VAR that would have probably seen it cross the line, this game was going to go to OT and USA definitely would have had the advantage. They would have more than likely taken the lead to pull an even bigger upset than beating Portugal in the first round. This was a fantastic WC run for USA but, there was also a bit of luck for them in this tournament. They were greatly underestimated especially after finishing dead last in the previous WC in France. Playing Mexico in the Rd16 was very lucky too because USA faced their very well known rival and were very familiar with their style of play and their tactics. A major upset win against Germany here would have had them face S Korea again after previously drawing with them in the first round. It would have been a 50/50 chance to do the unthinkable, be the first team to make a final in a WC after finishing dead last in the previous one! No, they wouldn't have beaten Brazil, but it still would have been an incredible modern day sports Cinderella story. Either way, the Americans were no longer labeled as an easy win for their opponents. That's the best thing that came out of this world cup. Twenty four years later, we've come a long way as far as talent goes but we still have a ways to go.
That handball was a penalty all day
I think it was an actual goal even with the handball!
Karma, in the match against Mexico there was a hand not called against us. Germany still plays dirty, in 1986 a goal was canceled badly
@@santamaria_1987germany plays dirty because Mexico had a decision made against them by the ref? 😅.. Are you retarded?
With VAR, that would of been given either as a goal, or a penalty kick.
No, @@hillsane9262: not even a fraction of the ball did pass through the goal line

More than enough to earn a win ? 😅😅😅…US was never winning…Germany was always going through

@@jcurbin305 So ? That doesn’t make US better than Germany 🤡🤡…Be in your limits

What a match from USA. Even knowing the final score i got so excited watching this highlights
The Golden Generation of USMNT
That is also now if not better now

2022 World Cup is here...Anything can happen in this tourney lets go USA! God bless everyone always!!!

The usa might’ve gone to the final had they beat Germany they would’ve played South Korea in the semis and played Brazil in the final.
Damn, that was a strong ass US team
For those who have followed the US for more than 25 years, we know that this was the best team we've produced.
no VAR, no fun

I remember this game..was 15 at the time..was upset the US lost 😢
Tony Sanneh doesn't get enough credit....the guy is an amazing player...
6:38 Penality for USA team😯
Clear as day hand ball
And at 6:30 you see it clearly. It did pass the goal line, so it was a goal. We got robbed big time.
That US jersey is fire
"SAVE BY KAHN"
...still rings in my nightmares...

That was a great match played by usa
Friday 21st June 2002
7:49 I remember thinking Sanneh had scored and immediately jumped up, only to realize the ball was on the wrong side of the upright. 😔
Damn, we should've won this match. We dominated.
The hand..........😮
One can only imagine the outcome of this game if we were just slightly more technical and clinical in the final 3rd.
And then we would have had South Korea. We were almost in a WORLD CUP FINAL!
Or if the refs knew what a freaking handball was...
How this sport much improvement now..Var is more fun🎉
I was 12 during this World Cup, I have been a Germany fan since then.
Everybody talks about the Ecuadorian referee in the Korea vs Italy match, but hugh dallas was equally terrible in this match.
He was a preening tool!
Brazil x Turkey too, Turkey was robbed.
Commentator sounds like Jack Edwards
It is Jack Edwards
The US national team deserved a lot better in this match
Usa llegando a cuartos como Costarica en el 2014 y los 2 son de concacaf
UFC TV VS MOVIES
That was a penalty 100 percent
Usa mostrando el mismo nivel igual que en confederaciónes 2009
Thanks god Var exist nowadays, 2002 was a disgrace, full of scandalous mistakes by referees, USA played better during all the match.
Fifa again being corrupt...clear handball
