Dearest Ana, you are like a delicate flower. 🌸 Genetics play the biggest part in how a person looks. I’m 77 and hardly have any wrinkles, thanks to my mother, who was so vain and taught me to moisturize, moisturize. At 82 she looked like 65. She still colored her hair till the day she died. She did all this to feel good about herself, not for anybody else. Love, warmth, and hugs to you my friend. ❤

The years may age you physically, but it is the life experiences that ages us mentally.
It wasn’t until I was 50 that I began to experience how the older you get the more you are discounted. As I approached 60 I became less visible. You are no longer approached with opportunities. Your experience is seen as dated. Today more than ever, at least in the U.S. generations are labeled, stereotyped and pitted against each other. At 64 I’m labeled as a late “Boomer”. Mistakenly, Im stereotyped as someone that had it economically easy, polluted the earth… when in truth I grew up very simply in a small home where my parents gave us very little material wealth. I worked and lived at home in order to attend college. My husband’s college was paid by the military. So yes, we didn’t have school loans but we were both late 20’s before we could complete our degrees. I’ve continued a simple life and consider myself an environmentalist. This manipulation of generational division and competition is a marketing ploy. So making generalizations of any age does not serve society only the economy. It’s very difficult to live in a society that only values youth, when you are older and still have much to offer.

I'm a younger Millennial and I love Boomers; my parents are Boomers (61 and 62). Your generation did the best it could with the opportunities you were given, and I'm sure younger generations wouldn't have made drastically different decisions or made a different impact on the world. Also, you gave the world amazing music, movies, TV series, advances, and innovations. No wonder the 80s are most people's favorite decade.
And I believe older people have so much more to share with the world thanks to their experience, wisdom, and everything they've seen. I was pretty dumb at 20. - Except for my optimism, there was nothing special going on about me because I haven't lived long enough to learn and genuinely experience life and its challenges. Sadly, our society is too focused on youth (and youth, indeed, is wasted on the young), but there are still many of us who respect and see older people. Moreover, we will all get there, there's no escape from our youth escaping us.
I always remind my parents they're valued and still have so much to offer to the world. But younger people should definitely work on creating a less ageist society, and show respect and interest in those who've had more time on Earth.

This was a perfect way to start my day! I will soon be 71. When I turned 70, it was like my body changed overnight; my skin looked older and my hair started thinning. Saying goodbye to friends has been very difficult for me. I am retired and I think it is harder to make friends as I don’t have the social outlets. I am eliminating a lot of excess clutter and changing my diet. I think it will bring a calmness to my life. Ana, you look beautiful and your complexion is flawless. Thanks again for a very helpful video. I turned 61 in November, and I cannot believe it. I’m the youngest child and grandchild, so I feel like I’ve been lulled into the “baby of the family” mentality. Yesterday, I had the honor of treating my daughter and daughter-in-law to lunch. I feel like I’m part of the group, but as I listened to their (36 and 38 yo) conversations, I was struck with reality. I’m NOT of this generation. I feel older, I look older, I act older. Thanks to your topic, I realize I can combat this age-thing just by feeding myself right and moving my body.
I don’t want to be 30 or even 40 again, but I do want to be able to take care of myself for as long as I can. It’s never too late. ☺️

I so agree with you about the comments on looking younger than your age. I think it's impolite. And it only goes one way - no one would say - oh you look older than your age because we 're conditioned to believe that youthfulness is everything. We all age differently - it's mostly down to genes and we can't do anything about it. People need to respect that. As an older woman I so agree that we just aren't allowed a place in society - unless we have supermodel looks at age 65+

I am highly sensitive and it has served me as much as hindered me. So many things are perceived as a weakness that are really just a different way of being. For all the migraines and overly empathetic moments of my life, I wouldn’t trade the beauty I can perceive or the soft spaces I can help lend to others who need to be understood.

I'm also an HSP and definitely agree that it increases with age! I wouldn't even have said I was that sensitive until I got to my late 20s - I'm 42 now and super sensitive to everything, especially sound which drives me crazy frequently and people's energies. Sometimes it actually feels like a handicap, but I try to reassure myself that we HSPs have an important societal function of being the 'canary down the mine' (its not that much of a comfort, but it's better than feeling like it's a weakness!). I also think that it makes us kinder, more empathetic humans, which this world definitely needs more of, and better able to avoid risky situations and unpleasant or dangerous people 🙂. I also wish there was more recognition and help for midlife career changers! I've often said that if I ever become rich I will set up a foundation to give funding for this group (which I currently belong to haha)

hello Ana. I am 53 this year. What i have learned so far about getting older has allowed me to give up ideas, clothing, certificates and previous versions of my self that i thought at one time were so encompassing and absolute. I did martial arts for fifteen years, twenty years ago. I lived and breathed it. This year i decided to give away my gei, destroy my certificates and let go of that part of myself. Yes, getting older forces us to say goodbye to earlier versions of ourselves. I have had to really restrict myself to not buy the latest anti aging skin care. I have realized that what ever cream or lotion i put on my face, the passage of years will still be there.

What a thought provoking video. As someone who is a few years older than you, I have my own perspective on the process of moving through the years with gratitude, grace, humility, understanding, and joy. Each age has its "good points" and its "more challenging points". We move through life, make mistakes (sometime really dumb mistakes, which we have difficulty letting go of) and become - hopefully - wiser with each passing year.
Spoiler Alert: You are not "old" Ana. You are a gifted, creative, thoughtful, strong, courageous, and adaptive individual, who is doing the best she can, each and every day.
Sure, there are physical things that I could once accomplish, that now are a bit more challenging. Yet, with the proper attitude, and tools, and time, and creativity, I can and do just about everything I want to do. Each year of my life has helped me become a better person; physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. At this point in my life journey I find great value in simplicity, and great joy in the everyday activities that help me remain strong and healthy. Many years ago I began making food choices that, have gotten more and more specific over the years. These choices have assisted me in maintaining my overall health, for which I am thankful.
I urge you to allow yourself to appreciate who you are and what you offer to the world; not only the CZcams universe, but those with whom you interact on a daily basis. All the best to you and Brian, as you continue to discover who you are and how you desire to live your individual and collective life. Peace & Blessings.

As a posture and strength coach, I couldn’t agree more that strength, mobility, and coordination are all equally important! If you have any hypermobility (just guessing based on some of the things you mentioned) using weights and other props such as the wall, or stepping on rocks/ nonflat surfaces, etc. for proprioceptive feedback (to help feel where your joints are in space) can be really helpful in stabilizing your joints. There is more and more research to show this helps with anxiety too, because folks with chronic joint instability have a high co-occurrence of anxiety (the body senses this instability and responds with a vague sense of overwhelm). Anyhow, I thought you might find that interesting, and it could potentially help strengthen and support your knee!

I've had many things happen in the past four years, including having COVID twice and losing work to AI, which has all aged me mentally. Sadly, I feel worn out, slightly hopeless, and uninterested in the future. I've been always interested in progress and consider myself a tech enthusiast. Still, all these rapid post-pandemic technological advances, the toxicity of social media, economic uncertainty, and wars make me feel like we entered a dystopian era. I have high sensitivity to noise, light, migraines during storms, insomnia and hyperactivity during full moon, etc and a pretty crappy immune system but I don’t see it as a disability or anything like that, I believe I’m like that to compensate for other physical issues (like being short sighted). I used to have a heightened sense of smell (which I did see as a problem) but due to a certain virus I lost it almost fully and seemingly forever and now I miss it.
The high sensitivity shouldn’t bother you, it’s adaptation, and I’ve never heard anyone saying that people who are like that are mentally behind in development or challenged, the opposite actually. Or maybe I misunderstood what you said.

Interesting, also in reading other comments.
Sometimes, I think it really is the luck of the draw. I recently turned 59 and don't really feel old, except how come I have a daughter turning 40 next month?! And 6 grandchildren between 0-15... But that may also be because I have my mom (82) and I had my grandmother until 2017 (she was 101) and they have always been youthful and up-to-date in their world views and we are a close, female-dominated family. Personally I have noticed most difference since menopause; I was happy to allow my hair to go grey by the time I was 49 and now I notice how I am not seen by people in a superficial manner. Those who bother to actually hold a conversation with me are frequently visibly surprised that I am a "real" person with intelligent opinions and interests on a deeper level (especially when they see me knitting - is that my granny-disguise?!) - I guess it's others' loss if they don't bother to find out! While society doesn't seem to consider women old over 30 or 40 here in central Europe, I think trying to do/have it all is very stressful for many women and these days I tend to sit back and think they will find out for themselves what matters as they, too, age. My experience is that "myself" has crystallised out more as I've aged, and while yes, I have definitely become more sensitive, that is perhaps also partly accepting what I may previously simply not have recognised in myself! I'm sorry you have had so many negative experiences in your life, so many health issues and goodbyes, but perhaps it has led you to crystallise earlier than some other people - and I think that is a huge positive!!

Feeling older is something I relate to! I'm 70 and want to maintain the best health possible. In answer to my question about adequate, effective exercise, my doctor gave me some good advice. He said to imagine what I'd like to do when I'm in my 90's and work towards making that possible. Love that. Funny, when I was 40 I realized I could have appreciated my 30 year old body more and then felt similarly when I entered my 50s. etc. So, now I treasure whatever age I am and hope to enjoy many more years. Also, I looked for the video you've linked us to here because I wanted to try the calendula cream you had mentioned. I couldn't find it so ordered some anyway. I'll be happy to view the video again, though, so thank you for the link! Happy belated birthday! I hope the year brings a lot of joy and peace.

I'm 32 now and all the sings and stories from my youth till now make it a rock steady assumption. I beagan to follow you like a year or two ago because of your insinghts in life, your creativity and your vulnerability. The HSP makes my life richer. But there are several 'traps' and I really longed to know it while I was younger. In podcasts, articles and books about HSP they almost never talk about that it is one of the major characteristics of a gifted person. Lots of love. Thank for your content.

Happy belated birthday Ana. I just turned 57 but people think I'm about 40, when I'm clean shaven they think I'm even younger. Like you, I do feel flattered yet a little awkward when people say that I look great for my age. I can't take all the credit. I do eat right, exercise, reduce stress and focus on staying optimistic but part of it is genetics. Overall I feel good but there are times that I feel extremely tired. I didn't start experiencing fatigue like this until around my early 50's. But I won't complain. It's just part of the aging process for many of us.

Well giving that no one wants to think about the world after so we do have a desire to draw the whole puzzle of life here in this world .
And that's also why us humans dont wish to talk about ageing .
But if you ever happen to consider and cognizance of another world after this , then in that case we may think that the end of this puzzle will be finish in the other side and there for the concept of ageing should be placed in middle of the puzzle not on the end of it .
And i think , cashing any time of the life from childhood to the ageing is sheerly majestic .

I get told I look much younger than I am a lot too, and it especially is frustrating at work, because it means that people don't think I look old enough to have earned the expertise that I have. I get this a lot from men. It is harder to get my ideas taken seriously because they don't think I could have the years of education and experience that I have. And I didn't rush through school or anything; I earned my expertise at about the average pace of anyone completing similar work. I'm not "young" to be at the place that I am at, and I want to be taken as seriously as a man would be at this point. I think sexism is a big component of this problem.

My belief about high sensitivity is that it's important for the specy evolution otherwise it would have disapeared with evolution. So it's not a weakness it's a needed power. It's sad we can be considered as weak as we are usefull, but's it's a way not to listen to what we experience and means something. We are vital for humanity as we are like watchers we see or ear things first and can warn the others... Also we are first in feeling bad with modern life, being stress with noise, geting gluten intolerance, having migraines with magnetic waves... thing that are bad for everyone but they would need more of it to see the negative impact on them, in fact we protect them as our bodies shows imediatly what's wrong for human being but before the bodies of ordinary people are too impacted.... we were the first sick with little amounts of poisonous plants, we also were the first earing the saber tooth tigers at night... we are like fuses for others, sadly most people prefer to try not to listen to us saying we are weak and needy instead of changing things and the whole humanity is runing into a wall fast speed

You look fantastic, 40 is the new 28 I suppose 😊❤!
Hypersensitivity is actually common in autistic people as well as in people with (c)PTSD. I have PTSD and CPTSD combined the consequence of which is 24/7 hypervigilance, the curse of being able to scan the room and know/feel what others feel before they even say a word, 24/7 anxiety, very severe migraines, hyperosmia ( synthetic fragrances are unbearable to me), all types of sensory hypersensitivity to a greater or lesser degree, and, at times, suicidal thoughts when I'm overwhelmed with pain. At 48 I have realized that most of my symptoms, including IBS, are very closely connected to my hormonal status (migraines in particular) but mostly to anxiety. Anxiety is, in my view, the source of all the problems; it destroys a person gradually, deregulates adrenals, thyroid, sex hormones, and the entire nervous system. Children brough up in a dysfunctional family system are robbed of the optimal neurological development. Their amygdala is much bigger and more active and the connection between amygdala and prefrontal cortex is either broken or not as strong as in healthy individuals. Parents are usually not aware of how much is in their power and that it is up to them what the next generation will be like. Generational trauma is the root of all evil, not money.
If I feel relatively safe and am able to be calm for a day or two, my body reacts accordingly. I also realised that my symptoms were 80% less severe when I left this god forsaken country of mine (Poland) for the UK where I spent a few years. I had only 2 episodes of migraine in a few years, I could eat anything without constantly vomitting, whereas in Poland I have a migraine on a monthly basis for 3 to 6 days and it's not getting any better in premenopause period. My never ending anxiety and fear of people have been standing in my way for far too long so I decided to do whatever is in my power to break free from this prison-like existence and when my son graduates high school next year I'm leaving, hopefully to never ever come back.
I wish you peace and sense of security. You will be able to do anything once you're feeling safe and at home ❤.

I used to have bright colors at my head for the last 2 years or so. But here in Spain it is useless because sun, sea air and sea water ruin colors very quickly. I firmly believe, after suffering migraines for 35 years, that they are made worse by a low, overcast weather and barometric pressure fluctuations, no doubt in my mind whatsoever. Genetics predisposes many people to having migraines. Nothing helped me until Imitrex, or Sumatriptan, came on the market. I finally found a doctor who believed me, and was willing to try it, and I couldn't believe it when it actually worked. I don't think we are freaks, "HSP", or any other trendy term. I just think many of us have genetics and brain chemistry that causes migraines and we don't understand it all, yet. Be well and care for yourself.

Lovely video Ana, and happy birthday! I definitely think HSP are more sensitive to EMFs, like the solar flares you mentioned. There is definitely research into this and it is thought mutations in proteins that control voltage-gated calcium channel (VGCC) activation could be one driver. There really needs to be more research. This predisposes individuals to all sorts of neuropsychiatric symptoms. PMC3780531; PMID 26300312. I agree mobility/posture vital, but I have found at 62, strength training and increasing my protein intake has had a huge postive impact on my health and well being. I now more consciously strive for adequate protein (more like 20-25% protein rather than 15%) and use seitan, plant based protein powder, soy products to do this. As for for looking young, I dont really care about that, I would rather be strong. I dont want to be frail as I go into my 70s and 80s as it is huge downside for healthy aging. But I also dont want to be inflexible either, so need to do well rounded exercise as you suggest. Hugs to you and Brian!
