  • The beginning of an offset smoker build. We're using a 1000 gallon propane tank, 500 gallon propane tank, and an old camper trailer.

Ya'll took on way too big of a job and you were in way over your head , and Ya'll stuck with it and it turned out pretty good. Thanks for showing the whole build, warts and all, enjoyed your videos and looking forward to the next one...

Just a suggestion...when using a ratchet strap don’t coil the whole strap around the ratchet. Feed the strap through, pull out the slack by pulling back the opposite direction and then ratchet.

Pull the slack all the way out and then give a foot slack back so that the strap grabs itself. Other wise there’s not enough meat on the reel and it backs out when the trailer bounces down the road.

Do you mind sharing how much you paid for the propane tanks? I would like to know in case I take up a project like this myself some day.

We got a pretty good deal from a family friend on some tanks that no longer held propane. I think we paid $200 for the 500 gallon and $500 for the 1000. We looked for tanks online for awhile, they can be hard to come by. Especially for a decent price

Are these tanks new? Did you purge them or wash them out before cutting?

Both tanks had been sitting empty for several years with all the valves removed before we got them, so we were pretty confident there wasn't any propane left. But we still ran some exhaust through them before cutting just to be a little cautious.
