If you want to taste real harisa then you need to visit IOK where it is available only during winters and is made of pure mutton and rice and it is mostly avilable in morning time.
It is cooked overnight .
In Amritsar one cannot find harisa .
It is only available in northern india n part of kashmir .
It costs around 1200 per kg as on today .
Lot of videos are available on youtube of that harisa recipe
Harees is not just a kashmiri dish, it has its versions in multiple countries. In Lahore, harisa is a very common dish in winter for breakfast, not this shop only. you'd find it even in brunch buffets everywhere. FWIW, a large population of Lahore is ethnically kashmiri, with roots in IOK, especially in inner city, so the dish is super popular. (the amritsari name is of course due to his ancestors, who also could have been kashmiris who migrated or had a summer location in punjab.) In Lahore/Pakistan, harisa is made both with rice and meat, or with wheat berries, meat and spinach, or wheat/moong/spinach/meat. (a likely adaptation as Punjab is both a major rice and wheat growing region. ) there's no barley or generic lentils in it. . Most hareesa in lahore i have eaten is a lot lighter in color than this variety too, it doesnt look/taste like haleem at all.

Indian punjab and pakistani punjab dishes are very different.....
Looks like a lot of amrtisaris are confused saying there's no hareesa in amritsar. the SHOP is named because his ancestors lived there beforehand, not because Hareesa was/is a famous dish there or they sold it there. Hareesa, among other places, is a kashmiri dish. Punjab in Pakistan, especially Lahore, has LOTS of kashmiris since way before 1947, as this area, like amritsar or sialkot is less cold, bigger cities and quite close to kashmir. This is one of the reason there's a lot of different types of hareesa you'd find in lahore, all winter. From the rice based one to wheat and spinach based to wheat/moong/spinach etc. This is also why you can see these 'flat' kashmiri style baqarkhanis in lahore food street, even though the common pakistani baqarkhani available everywhere in bakeries is a very different shape/style of puff pastry.
