Apple Vision Pro is Dead // Apple’s BlackBerry Moment!

- The Apple Vision Pro is a colossal failure, and much like BlackBerry, has launched a product out of touch with the mainstream audience and killed it by pricing it way too high. The Apple Vision Pro is a great product that I enjoy using sometimes but still isn't quite ready, and feels like a beta product that Apple charged way too much for, especially considering their competitiong is 75% cheaper and has more support.

I felt nothing at its release and nothing at its demise.
You and millions of people
It's neither fully released and certainly nowhere near demise, it's just a baby growing on its path to childhood, adolescence, then adulthood.
@freecivweb4160 not fully released? Wtf does that even mean? Can anyone buy one? Yes, therefore it's fully released. Prematurely sure but stop giving excuses for a trillion dollar company
@@TechOdyssey billions.. Only a few select ultra nerds gave a single fuck. And even fewer of them could afford it.
@@freecivweb4160So, Apple has retail products that aren't fully fleshed out? I thought they were the company that only releases fully fleshed out products. And yes, the Apple Vision Pro was fully released.

That was the whole point of going through to next levels of development. A limited release to get more public test-driving to learn where to go next. v2 will be cheaper and better, v3 also. Surprised no one could see this strategy as it was pretty obvious and talked about publicly.
The product has been out for a few months and they’re already working on a cheaper version and releasing the 2nd vision OS. It’s a LITTLE early to be calling it dead when it just got started
I forgot the applevision existed

I love mine and have been using it daily since I got it. I prefer it for my video and photo processing. I do believe this type of computing is the future, but the cost has to come down a lot, and Microsoft needs to release Intune for it to really start taking off.
Same - this is not a mass market product and wasn't intended to be (at least in its current form). I bought this for a specific use case and it works for the 1 reason I needed it (as a productivity tool on the go - and for travel in general).
One month later: how is it?
@@RemoteWorkerIndonesia pretty great. I can't do my job properly (on the road) without it.
Part of the problem is it doesn't cater to the VR enthusiast like other headsets have in the past. The lack of native controllers and connecting to a Mac or PC for wireless PCVR (not screen sharing) was a huge miss for Apple. Their reluctance to call it "VR" is also part of the problem along with the $3,500+ price. The Quest 3 is 85-90% of what the Vision Pro is at 1/7th the price.
Them not calling it a VR headset doesn't matter.
Enthusiasts already know if they're the target audience for the Vision Pro.
Most average consumers just don't care about wearing a headset.
AR not VR.
I went to the Apple Store today and nobody in there was looking at it.
Because they know they can’t afford it
Put it back in its original box and when you retire, auction it off as a rare collectible.
I thought the same about my iPad gen 1 but nah it's worth nothing.
The lack of video/data input for the Apple Vision Pro is a HUGE negative. If I could could connect directly to external devices like my PS5 or PC mine would see so much more use. Everyone who experiences the Vision Pro says the cinema movie watching experience is the best feature, so why they excluded gaming from external devices is just mind boggling. Sure we can connect consoles and PCs wirelessly with 3rd party apps, but the resolution is limited to 1080p for PS5 (yes, the resolution created in 2005 🤦), and you have to deal with some compression and latency. If Apple had made the battery a passthrough device that allowed video and data input it would have increased so much functionality for the device, not just for gaming but as a legitimate workstation as well. The Apple Vision Pro would hands down be the best gaming experience device if it simply allowed input. Instead, Apple is keeping things within walls and expecting us to use apps from a super weak library in the app store, of which 99% are just terrible. It's such a let down because it's a fully capable device, but again it's being held back due to Apple's decisions. The frustrating part is that these are issues that could be fixed for the current Vision Pro, but it feels at this rate that Apple is focused on making the next generation better and leaving this one to die.
To me the biggest automatic NO BUY with regards to the Apple Vision Pro isn't the price itself but rather that it doesn't even have AT LEAST Wi-Fi 6E (due to using the M2 chip instead of M3) which is unacceptable in 2024.
🤣🤣🤣
2:14 Stop spreading false information.
They never cancelled the Vision Pro 2. They postponed it so they could work on the cheaper Apple Vision first so they can release it to the public.
it's not ready for the masses, that's why it's not priced for the masses. I love mine and it will keep getting better, and there will eventually be cheaper versions.
And yet IDC reports that the Vision Pro has rocketed to number two with 17% market share second only to the Quest 3 on 37% market share in Q1 of this year despite only being available in the USA and despite launching only 3.5 months after that quest 3. And Apple has maintained the same level of sales in Q2 despite again only being available in the USA. Now of course, the Vision Pro is rolling out globally so we should expect significantly more Sales over the coming quarters.
It was priced so pricey because it was made for a certain clientele. I was at the Apple Store in Williamsburg and I sat down in a section and was told that I couldn't sit there as it was for people who were buying the Apple vision pro. The funny thing there was no one buying one. I wasn't going to spend almost $4,000. There pricing is ridiculous.
Their.
NOT there.
I think you missed the point of the product. Apple didn’t release it to be a big seller. It’s to push the industry forward. To bring down prices. To get the form factor down to sunglasses.
Agreed.
The $3,500 price reflects the FACT that the 1st gen Apple Vision Pro was never intended to sell a lot of units at all because it was never targeted at average consumers to begin with.
Apple has very long-term ideas of where it wants computing to go. To get there, you define a goal, then release products which get you towards that goal, adjusting as needed to get there. I knew the iPhone when it premiered was going to be a game-changer for portable computing but I didn't know how much; I didn't buy one though until the 3g when it felt to me it had finally had enough time to cook. At this point they have pretty much exhausted where smartphones as we know them can go; it will be mostly iterative (faster hardware, bigger/better software).
The Vision feels the same way to me - a publicly available prototype for where they want to get to in the long term. It will be at least a coupe more generations before it will be ready for popular adoption.
Right now it is an under-cooked replacement for a phone but seems to be a really interesting replacement for desktop computing and dealing with multiple displays. A couple more generations it might be ready for replacing or supplementing mobile computing screens. 10 years after that, who knows?
If you don’t want it bro I’ll take it off your hands ❤
He'd likely ask for $3,000+ to let you take it off his hands. You willing to pay that much for a used device?
"Apple Vision Pro is the biggest waste of money in my entire life."

The moment they announced the price I knew right away it was going to be a failure.
Way too expensive.
Actually the price isn't the reason why it's a failure in the eyes of most people.
This headset could cost $1,000 and it still wouldn't sell very well. Why? Because it's not a pair of Smart Glasses. Most people don't want to wear a headset and/or they don't see the point (nor do they care to see) of AR/VR aka how can this drastically improve their lives...

It'd be worth spending the money just for the fun and joy it'd bring me! (like you overspending on a phone because it's themed off of the car you own and love...lol this just sounds so freaking fun to me!)
Finally, some apple 🍎 content 😁
Haha. Yes
I'll tell you the biggest problem with this headset; it's the price! I am an absolute believer of this device, and am a total fanboy of the tech! So I bought a meta quest 3 back in February, and ever since the v68 update came out, refining the free floating window experience, this thing does a solid 90% of what the Apple vision pro does. It also plays games that are 100% better than anything that the AVP has to offer. And the price tag for the AVP is not unaffordable for me, but spending that much money on a device that has a cheaper competitor at 1/5 the price is just Ludacris. Even being able to afford it, I know that I can put that money towards something else more beneficial since a cheaper device can accomplish most of the same tasks. So if someone like me, that believes in the tech, and can afford the device without going bankrupt, won't buy it, then no one is buying this thing. Apple must lower the price to get a majority of techies on board first, and then make it lighter and smaller in order to appeal to the masses.
Most people don’t make it into the new paradigm. Ever. They just don’t get it. Allow me to say that rumors of AVP demise are greatly exaggerated.
I think Apple made it pretty clear early on that this really should only be for developers and that the second lighter iteration would be for the poor people.
I think the issue is the crossover of its computing power with the affordability and convenience of the product. I feel there will be an Air version eventually but maybe they try something different. Instead of being a headset maybe they pivot from being a standalone product to being an accessory in the ecosystem, in a glasses style that you mentioned and we’ve seen before in other products.
I loved the keyboard on the motorola droid

I tried at the store and it was very impressive but passthrough quality was subpar ( maybe they had the wrong zeiss inserts ). Movies looks very good. The device was very heavy for me though
By the way, after the demo the apple guy was pressing me to buy it.
@@jonb8633The 2 different Female employees didn't pressure me to buy it at all. 🤣
The Meta Quest benefited the most from the release of the AVP.. I'm sure the AVP got a bunch of people interested in VR that had never even considered it before.. Then they start seeing it compared to a $500 headset that's a 4th or 5th generation product with a extensive app catalog.. A lot of people probably said let me try that $500 gadget out...
Apple's biggest mistake wasn't the price, Apple customers are use to paying more for less.. the biggest mistake was not having apps ready to go at launch.. those few 3D experiences, and being able watch movies, and remote desktop just wasn't enough to keep people occupied..
This is probably the worst opinion on Apple Vision Pro that I’ve heard. I use my AVP every single day multiple times per day. AVP biggest strength is absolutely productivity at work. Second would be as a media player when you’re by yourself because nobody wants to watch TV with somebody wearing it. Third is 360 video playback. 99% of the time when I reach for my computer I also reach for my AVP. I have a Google meet meeting every morning that they want your camera on, AVP put my persona up so I don’t have to spend my time getting ready to be on camera. One of the best computer investments I’ve ever made.
I love mine and use it daily.
But was still interested in the video…until I saw one of your comments. It doesn’t make it seem like will be is worth worth almost 15 mins of my time.

Great vid! Love your passion for tech. I think everyone agrees the price is insane for something that feels like a beta or prototype. I have a quest 3 and have to say when I got browser's set up and figured out the productivity aspect I was sold that this was the future and is very close to being ideal for my work flow that is basic w 3 monitors, doing scheduling, research, notes, etc... more breathability in the headset and maybe slightly lighter as long as you have the comfort of an after market headstrap and soft facial interface I can work in it for many hours. I feel we are close.
Oh the memories. Walking in the store a zero, coming out a hero because I had a BlackBerry. The one with the roller ball thing. Felt like James Bond checking emails I wasn't really getting! And the sprint internet card that slid into my laptop, just so I could download a song off Napster to burn to a CD. Times were great.
I want apple to do a 'one last thing' at one of their upcoming events and to just show a short 10 or 15 second clip of a pair of controllers they'll be coming out with for the device. Something that shows they're now shifting their focus on gaming for the Vision Pro.
This thing would be a monster of a gaming device if Apple would push for it. It'd go from being a complete disappointment...to something TONS of people would lust after.
But so far...nah, Apple has shown no signs of pushing this device to make it something most would want. I don't get it. It makes me sad. I want one so badly...but even more badly, I want a reason to have one. So far I have no compelling reason. Spending $4k on a killer 3d screen isn't enough atm.
it's really hard to justify buying a Vision Pro... It's not like it's a professional tool, not an everyday tool, not gaming device, not a basic tech need... Most VR products are aimed towards gamers and tech enthusiasts, so it's hard to convince the market that this product is necessary, specially for 3500$. It doesn't fit in any lifestyle and everyday scenario

Perhaps if the press hadn’t mercilessly mocked the people who chose to try Google Glass (and killing the program in the process) we wouldn’t be a decade and a half behind where we should be in wearables.
They should spend more time making what we have (and for sure use and carry), better. A persistent personal AI with memory that can he used across all devices. The first company that creates "her"...will sell all the subscriptions imaginable. How much would you pay? Attaching something to my face is not happening. A watch and earbud is the way to go. It seems less like a product for fun and more just a alternative to other productivity devices (with a higher cost and less storage lol). I fully agree with you 1000%, when the AVP came out, I looked at this thing and said to my friend that "I guarantee you this thing will completely fail" and the reason I said it was due to the fact that the tech world right now just has no need for a product like this, if it would have been a lot less money and more for gaming, then maybe, but of course that's why the MetaQuest succeeded and the AVP did not. May the AVP R.I.P!! 😇🤣
Meta Quest 2 sold the most in 2020 because of the pandemic lockdown. The sales numbers for the Quest 3 aren't amazing.
Apple Vision Pro isn't a failure but it still wouldn't sell well at $1,000 or less because most people simply don't care about putting on a HEADSET specifically.
Once Smart Glasses actually become a reality, THAT product will sell very well but that doesn't mean it will replace smartphones altogether.

2 minutes of fame? Yeah. Ok. This comment is as dead as the Vision Pro. Try harder next time buddy
I fully disagree.
I’m an architect and have two primary uses for it which has been very successful. First, I obviously use it for 3D client presentations. I have the 3D model from my CAD software converted to USDZ which natively opens in the Vision Pro (and any Apple device) without the need for an app. I don’t even have my clients use guest mode. I stream the VP’s view to my laptop and coach them through it.
The second, I have set up a very nice mobile office in my SUV. I move the front seats forward and have a very roomy area to sit in in the back seats. I have a DJI Power 1000 for a TON of power for laptop, VP, etc., and I work under shade trees at the beach or in the mountains (I live in Hawaii so they’re quick to get to). I then open my laptop into 4K mode on the VP virtual monitor and have my text, email, music and browser apps surrounding it… with enough open space to see the beach view beyond.
I am IMMENSELY happy with my professional use of it!

Not even close. But I did laugh at the joke. Google half-heartedly tries stuff, doesn't spend $$$ to develop it out because they're not sure. Then when it fails because not fully developed, they totally quit. Apple is on a completely different path with VisionOS. They broke a lot of ground with a brand new tech and didn't tarnish their image by keeping the installed userbase small. Now they're hard at work at the drawing board with a list of hundreds of ideas and improvements from the community and from developers. Very unlike Google I'd say.

Your mistake is thinking that the Apple Vision Pro hasn't sold well because of the $3,500 starting price. That's not true at all.
The reasons why it hasn't sold well are:
1. Most people don't want to wear a HEADSET. It doesn't matter if the price is $1,000 or less and has an Apple logo on it. Most people just don't care for this specific product category.
2. These aren't Smart Glasses. Once ACTUAL Smart Glasses become a reality, then we'll see those become mainstream though that doesn't mean that Smart Glasses will kill smartphones.
I think it would have been better to forego the cutting-edge features and make it a $400 headset than to max it out at a price point that the vast majority of consumers cannot afford.
A $400 Apple headset wouldn't impress anyone.
Not even the current Apple Vision Pro has RETINA-level displays. The resolution on each display is about HALF of what it needs to be JUST to achieve RETINA-level clarity.
The $3,500 price isn't the reason why Apple Vision Pro isn't selling. It can cost $1,000 or less and it still wouldn't sell a ton of units because most people don't want to wear a HEADSET. If anything, they want Smart Glasses and we're just not there yet. MAYBE in the year 2035.
Apple SUCKS!!

The product has been out for a few months and they’re already working on a cheaper version and releasing the 2nd vision OS. It’s a LITTLE early to be calling it dead when it just got started
Only an idiot actually thinks the OS is version 2 when in reality it's 1.5.
Hell, the new features that they're adding LITERALLY should've been available on the headset at day 1 launch.
No excuses.
@@PSYCHOV3N0M uhhhhh. So therefore the product is dead? Not sure what youre even getting at
