My father and I had a 1947 K7 International 6x6 that was a surplus Marine Corp winch truck that we worked erecting gas stations , setting 5000 gallon gas tanks in the ground and just about anything people needed lifted . We had an 18,000 lb winch on the front and a 40,000 lb winch on the rear . We pulled trees over or moved the trees after they were cut and then pulled stumps out of the ground . The truck had 1100 hundred miles on it when my father bought it . It only needed a little bit of work to get it running and driving but the brakes were stuck at first but we finally got the wheels to turn . Then I had to repair or replace everyone of the wheel cylinders , mostly repair the wheel cylinders as we didn't have the money to buy new surplus ones . The hydravac had to be rebuilt and all of the brake lines had to be replaced . We had a Hell of time finally getting all of the brakes bled and working correctly . There's two wheel cylinders per wheel and thats a lot of work to bleed the brakes . Best of luck finding parts for your new 6x6 . Interesting video . Be extra CAREFUL with the split rim wheels , they can be deadly .
That CCKW is a nice truck to restore. I got a winch boom truck that was built by a concrete company to get the mixers out of mud holes, so it is heavy enough to lift most of my toys. Just 2 larger dozers that I wouldn't try lifting with it but there are 2 of them so they can pull each other if 1 ever gets stuck LOL. It has 6 strands of 3/4 cable supporting the boom and the hook line is 7/8 . I use a snatch block also. It will extend to 43 feet verticle, I have used it to lift and move grain bins. I pick up a truck, tractor or grain bin and carry it or just load and unload. I don't pay by the hour so I am working on a tractor off and on that has been hanging from the hook and spreader bars since last fall. Just an idea for your shopping list.
I L o v e those original rims !!!!! To me there is nothing, NOTHING LIKE THEM IN THE WORLD !!! they're timeless !! It's that simple 🤠❤️🙏👍🏽👍🏽 Beautiful truck 😍 I have a wish ,, and that is that you can afford to fix it up from the ground up what an awesome restoration with either a big block Chevy or perhaps even the Duramax diesel or something like that,. yeah just a real beauty.
Never pull backwards like that with a diesel pickup, it's so easy to break the pinion in the front diff. The drive side of the gear is vertical & designed to take the load but going backwards the coast side of the gear is angled & loads the pinion sideways. I've replaced a lot of them on diesel pickups that have snapped.

Should have hooked the Chains on the Lowest spot possible, so you are not pulling down on the Truck at the same time you are trying to get it out of holes.
ive never seen a tire used to do the pulling between 2 chains. maybe have the chain or a winch go through a tire to dampen the whip if either snaps but that tire could easily tear itself apart and cause lots of damage
Yes banjo type axles i got one in uk its great fun to go out in .its got that dont give a fvck type attitude. Its still got the 270 Engine . I put a mk 2 Ford zephyr Distributor on the engine with vacuum auto advance it only Goes 45 mph. But better pulling At takeoff . I hope you enjoy refurbishing the old girl .like i did But mine as D day history. Sorry about that .but fun 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Dude what you paid to have that crane truck come out there you could have got a Jack Jack the front end up freed up the brakes and the front wheels and did the same to the back and then just pull it out
sure, but that takes time, maybe a lot of time. and if your a buyer, you may want to get it out of there quickly, not hang around on the man's property.
Unlocking frozen wheel czcams.com/video/jrRYvYszit8/video.html I'm started rebuilding brake cylinders and decided to have them done professionally (on the front axle only). :) Will post soon.
You would be saving yourself a lot of work and money if you got a later model rolling chassis and set your cab and front sheet metal on it . 74 year old parts are going to be hard to find and they ain't gonna be cheap .
@@heartland96a Not a street driver for sure . It would be Cool to have to use for personal use around the place , a real Workhorse for selected needs . I could really use it as a winch truck right now as we was hit with a big Tornado here in North Little Rock , Arkansas and surrounding areas . My daughter and nephew both have numerous big trees on their houses . Plenty of firewood makings for the cold season , just have to get the trees cut up and moved so they can be loaded . Looks like a War Zone .
@@25vrd48 So Sorry that you and yours are caught up in this extreme weather disaster , don't know if you can do both , make it drive and build that winch crane unit .with its own engine on the rear frame , With time tight maybe the winch idea is possible and you could tow the CCKW with another to move where you need? If the engine can't be fixed , I have read of others do transplants but can't recall exactly the engine that can be used , there is a CCKW group on the web they would know , the front mount is unique so its difficult to adapt .

AWESOME, restore this beast to perfection.
I needed a good laugh today, thanks for sharing
Nice find! Banjo axles too. Now make the ol' girl run!
Awesome save!
I'm really glad you saved this truck!!
Unfortunately I ended up muting it because it was so bad.
Really great truck to restore , and plenty to learn on the way ,,,
Nice save! 😁👍 That's one tough looking rig! Keep at it 🔧🔩
Good luck finding a correct bed. Make sure it isn't hiding about somewhere nearby.
Looks fairly complete and original minus the box. Good score

Sounds like you have great experience a solid machinery. I hope to one day earn some hands on experience. :)

It's not a restoration if you change the sweet sounding original 270 straight six.
And so it begins!

I remember seeing 1940's films of trucks like that being loaded aboard ship by crane, the trucks were fully loaded for the Normandy landings
Talk about making a commitment.
Good luck and one hopes it works out OK.

Excellent, if it will fit pulled in forward used the bucket lifting the front end and back out with it .
What wrong with your mic, it's to close? Each time you speak it's muffled.

In KY terms………like a soup sandwich or monkeys f****** a football. Lol. But……you got it.
Shows you what Old Iron can do. Picked up by the front bumper w/chains . Didn't even look like the scratched the paint on it .
Someone tell them about locked up brakes. It would be a good idea to give the brake drums a good hammering.
CCKW 353 is 8800 lbs empty. Take off 1000 lbs for cargo box, racks, bows and tarp. So about 7800 lbs as is.😁👍
I’ve got one I’m keeping an eye on.
Except it has timken split axles… instead of the gm/Eaton banjo axles.

Да руль ровно держать , в кабину С тудера пофиг кого садить, лиш би колеса ровно шли, пикапом витянули б, а так попал на большие бабки
so when are we going to see it on the road here in the Okanagan?
That would be a excellent truck to install a PTO winch and gin poles on.
That's no joke Randy!! 😁 Nice seeing you here!

The 4 cables in the tire inner diameter can't think how to describe it are pretty tough .
Wonder if u had the tractor lift the rear of that GMC and ur truck then coulda pulled it out on just 2 wheels on the ground.
The Crane Truck should be able to pull that out with no problem, using the Truck to pull not the Crane.

Depends on what he intends to do with it .
Would not be any good for a daily driver but as a restoration to take to display it would be great
