Rappers flex on the advances they're given, and the deals that most sign are not good deals. A lot of rappers (obviously not all) are more in debt than average people. Independent artists work differently, they get to keep a lot more of what their music earns, and they don't take big advances which they can't pay back until the 2nd/3rd album.
