Love this review thank you for posting. Plan to move to the UK this summer and I was undecided between a secondhand Elise or Exige, and a Caterham. I've briefly driven an Elise in N America a few years ago and I liked it. I drove a Caterham 420R a year ago at the Crawley dealership and liked it a lot. Which would you say was more thrilling - your Lotus or this Caterham? And do you think its necessary for ahem, larger people to buy the wide chassis? (the 420 was a wide model)

Hi Stig, it’s Rob here! Thank you so much for your kind words! Despite both cars occupying the same part of the market, they’re still quite different to each other. The Lotus is definitely more driver focussed with better steering feel, pedal placement etc.
The Caterham on the other hand is way more open to the elements, so feels more exciting in that respect! It’s a tough call but I’m glad I chose the Elise, mainly because of the extra protection from the ever present British weather which has a mind of its own!
With regards to the wider chassis, as I’m 6,2 and 11 stone wet through, I’m probably not the best to advise on that. I can say though, that if you’re going to have two people in the car regularly, it’s probably for the best :)
Hope this helps in some way!

btw I'm a biker and so I found the Caterham relatively comfortable :) ;) I am concerned about how the top will deal with rain though

Forgot to mention, I didn’t have chance to try the roof out as the weather was perfect blue sky’s, but I suspect it wouldn’t be entirely waterproof!

The upper part is surprisingly pretty waterproof. Water only comes in sometimes from underneath the doors due to water splashes.

    Motorcycle weight ....should be fun...

Go that quickly ... it's the same chassis with a smaller motor ...
So you would be scared in a 370 I guess ...

Almost certainly terrified, yes. Can’t image what a 620R feels like!
