Some IDI tips for you from an owner of one. 1. Clean your battery posts if you haven't already (the positive was smoking from high resistance) 2. Use two batteries to start the truck one isn't enough juice to turn the starter fast enough you won't have starting issues. 3. If you have a manual activated glow plug system because you deleted the glow plug controller, push the button and hold it for about 10 to 15 seconds max. 4. Don't use starting fluid on it, it is a good way to hydro lock that motor (you almost did when it shook) and severe damage will result. WD-40 or brake cleaner is much easier on them if you have to, but be stingy with it. 5. No need to rev the crap out of it at startup by flooring it while doing so. When its cold outside, hold the pedal about halfway and when it starts release it, the cold weather idle (if functioning) will do the rest and then once it reaches a certain temp it will decrease the idle speed to normal.
Can you help me. I have 1993 Ford 350 5.8, my friend sray some starter fluid in it , and ever since it's lost horse power and the motor kinda shakes now, can it be fix?
For IDIs it's use all of it. Then what your gonna want to do is put er right into the Ketchup right off the bat. They like that. Cleans the carbon off the valves
These Engines got a bad rap, I don't know why. I've had a couple of them and they did everything I wanted them to do and more. Never had a problem starting it in way below zero weather. Good maintenance and when 5w-40 synthetic came out that made them start even better in the cold. I miss them
