======= The Lost Battalion LYRICS =======
Far from their land, as they made their stand
They stood strong and the legend still lives on
1918 the great war rages on, a battalion is lost in the Argonne
Under fire, there’s nothing they can do, there’s no way they can get a message through
Suffer heavy losses as the battle carries on, liberty division standing strong
Far from their land, as they made their stand
    A disregarded demand
It’s surrender or die, and the stakes are high
They live or they die, there’s no time for good bye
Weapon in hand, as they made their stand
    Still disregarding demand
They would never comply they would rather die
Broke through the blockade they were finally saved
Friendly fire, munitions running low, the supplies they were dropped upon their foe
1918 the war still rages on, the battalion (is) still trapped in the Argonne
Chose not to surrender, they chose victory or defeat, fallen brothers resting by their feet
Far from their land, as they made their stand
    A disregarded demand
It’s surrender or die, and the stakes are high
Live or die, who can tell? there´s no good bye
With a weapon in hand, as they made their stand
    Still disregarding demand
They would never comply they would rather die
They stood strong and the legend still lives on
Suffered heavy losses through the great war they stood strong, but the memory of the fallen still lives on
    ========= Historic Fact ==========
Though they were completely surrounded by the Germans and were subjected to friendly fire, 554 all-American soldiers, who were part of the 77th Division, continued fighting for a week during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in 1918. They are known as The Lost Battalion.

My Great-Grandfather served during the First World War in the Argonne (though he wasn't a part of the Lost Battalion). He told my grandmother a really interesting story. He was by himself, lost in the Forest and a German soldier crashed into him. The soldier looked up at my great-grandfather and he (my GG) said it was like looking into a mirror. The man started speaking to him in German, trying to convey something. He then embraced my GG or shook his hand or something along those lines. They then ran off in opposite directions.
The really interesting thing is, my GG was just the second generation of his family born in the U.S, and his grandfather was born in Germany. He was always convinced that he had experienced a chance encounter with a long-lost relative. I always thought it was sad that they had to meet under the circumstances they did.

He didn't suffer through the trials The Lost Battalion faced, but he still came away with terrible memories and a deep hate of the smell of cheese. Weapon in hand, they made their stand
    Still disregarding demand
They would never comply, they would rather die
Broke through the blockade, they were finally saved
    Friendly fire munitions running low
The supplies, they were dropped upon their foe
1918 the war still rages on
The battalion still trapped in the Argonne
Chose not to surrender, they chose victory or defeat
Fallen brothers resting by their feet
Far from their land as they made their stand
