Thank you! This helps me so much!
I always refer to the pop punk voice as “the accent” lol I think Tom popularized the sound but I’m really stoked you mentioned Neck Deep 😊 I recently saw The Story So Far and am a big fan of The Wonder Years and those bands both exemplify “that” sound really well. Glad you’re teaching people proper techniques so they’re not just yelling into mics. All those artists have strong vocals and use their diaphragm properly.
I've learn a little bit thanks bro😊
I believe the lyrics are "voice inside miyedddd"
seriously its like you made this video just to be my hero because I have been in this same trap for like 15 years!!!
Let's be honest, we all knew he was gonna use the Tom Delonge 'INSIDE MYyy YEAAD' example before he even said it.
Boom, just got yourself a new subscriber.
Really considering doing lessons, once I get the nerve
Thanks Josey, come and join in- I'm taking in new students at the moment, but that may not always be the case in the future. Would love to teach you.
i still remember the video 6 years ago with ur vocal teacher when u were learning how to sing and your voice kept on cracking on high notes crazy how you are our teacher now
Just started a band I'm fronting.. a lot of this is new to me . Interested in lessons
hi doug, your videos are really cool and informative, i met your channel through the gerard way video, and i keep watching it today, i'm from brazil and i don't know english very well so if there is a wrong word it's the translator's fault kkkkk
Hi Doug I want to be a singer so I'm counting on your advice and tips thank you
When I explain the pop punk voice. I describe it as singing like a "British surfer bro"
I LOVE THIS EXAMPLE! In the last decade, the best one to conquer this was Billie Joe Armstrong, then it evolved into one of my absolute favorite of all time as the late Gus Ahr, aka Lil Peep took a real grip and control on this style in his own way that sonded new but gfamiliar!
Yeah they are trying to sound British and it resulted in it being SO American 😂😂. Cause a British surfer bro isn’t a thing
@RedDevil_Joe haha, you're so hilarious with you're edgy sophisticated humor. Oh and omg!! Thank you soooo much for information that there are no "British surfer bros", I feel so terrible spreading misinformation like that.
Now, serious time so listen up my guy. "British surfer bro" is a term I use to describe the combination of a british accent (think Tom Holland) and a California surfer dialect (think "totally tubular brah" or "surfs up brah"). Now to help you put those to together to make it make sense for you we're going to use the blink 182 song- I miss you, specifically the line "and I'm so sorry". Think about how it's said in the song, now compare it to how Tom Holland would say it. It's the same except for blink says it in a higher pitch than Tom Holland would and more whiny/nasal-y, great, so let's look at how a surfer bro would say it, it would be more whiny/ nasal-y and at a higher pitch but no accent. Well here's where the magic happens, if we combine the two we get a British accent at a high pitch and whiny/nasal-y. So now we know that is "British accent and surfer bro dialect combined" let shorten that description down a little. What should we shorten it to hmm..... oh I got it. How about "British surfer bro"?
There you go. I've broken it down for you connected the dots for you and held your hand through all of this so you wouldn't get lost, however, I cant make you understand. You're gonna have to do that part yourself. Good luck and Godspeed
@@hotshot6923 I hope you’ve had the proper diagnosis and get the proper care 👍
Love you Doug! I'm working on my voice right now for a pop-punk project. I'm trying my best to not hate it. Any tips for gaining confidence and not just feeling like I'm a lousy, untalented singer? I feel like that doesn't help me at all lol
Sorry to hear you lack confidence in your voice. To me it seems that the issue is either that your voice is underdeveloped so you do not like the sound of your voice OR maybe your voice does sound good, you just have a hard time accepting that it sounds good. If you send me a clip I could give you feedback. Message me on Instagram @dougzeigenbein or email me here- www.dougzeigenbein.com/contact
AMAZING
woah mindblown
love your videos! can you do a weeknd michael jackson analysis?
I like watching you sing cuz I can't sing at all
wow that blink 182 song was spot on
It's so hard to do,i'd love to sing like Bert
Hey Doug,I have a small problem that I’d like to see if you can help me understand it. When I sing in a really high pitch I get kind of a nasally sound.
I'd like to help you but I'd have to hear it. Send me a voice clip through instagram @dougzeigenbein or if you don't have instagram contact me here www.dougzeigenbein.com/contact
What is the song called at 6:03 that you played?
"If i play some scales" *immediately plays chords and sings arpeggios*
Hi.
When I sing certain songs alone practising I do them fine. With the band I'm in I scream them. Advice please?
Great video but I just want to point out that it's inside my yead, not head
when you started singing Tom's verse I immediately thought "fuck you for sounding so good"
you should hear me try to sing like my idol Tom DeLonge while I have shit range. I appreciate you so much man! :D
Who's tom delonje?
Bro I will do everything I can just for tht voice
Really enjoyed this thank you!! Was wondering, do you think any famous pop punk singers actually have bad technique and not a strong voice. I.e. They've always sung in this pop punk way?
And perhaps that's why some of their voices aren't as strong anymore
Yeah for sure, the best indication of whether they have good technique or bad technique is if they can sing live or not.
Some people also might start singing with good technique on their first couple of albums and then slowly begin singing with worse and worse technique so their voices stop working as well.
It can all be trained back up though with the right instruction
Why is this filmed like I'm hiding in a pantry
Would you say Kellin Quinn as that overly whiny sound?
Maybe sometimes in his high range he uses that kind of whiney sound but he's an incredibly skilled singer with great technique so he'd be able to get away with it without it affecting his voice.
Check out the intro of "with ears to see and eyes to hear".
sounded more like fall out boy
i think the pioneers on this singing style are allowed to do it.
now, the kids that try to imitate it... it doesn't work.
I can't sing 😭 I wanna learn
CZcamsr pop punk voice is farrrrr worse than Tom DeLong in my opinion.
You all know what I'm talking about.
the only singing channel that i actually like the song examples :P
Unfortunately this video was demonitized because I included audio examples. If you'd like to support me please check out my store where you can book Skype lessons and get my Pitch Training video course.
