    Just bought the tfo 12 with the saltx 4000 based off your recommendation for my dad. Thanks for all the informative videos. Sending love from the ormond beach area. Hope he loves the setup as much as you do. Take care!

    Great video. Love your reviews.
    Looking to pick up either a Salt X, Slammer 4 DX or a Shimano Saragossa this weekend to match with my new 10’ Penn Battalion 2.

      @@shep9879 I would up picking up the Slammer DX 6500 for my 10’ Penn Battalion and then picked up a Saragossa 10K matched up with an 11’ Dark Matter Cape Cod Canel rod, 4-10oz.
      Both are great reels, but the Seragosa is super smooth

    Curious. How does the TFO compare to the Bummy Stick? I know one is a 12 footer rated for heavier weight vs the 10 foot Bummy Stick. I’m looking for a good all around rod.

    How much sinker weight do you use on the 12 foot rod?

    Thanks for the excellent video as usual! I want to have a cart built over in Gulf Shores where I believe you got yours. What model or size should I ask for? I believe yours looks like it is a perfect size to haul in a Chevy Equinox

    • @SaltSquatch
      @SaltSquatch  Před 3 lety +1

      Beach Power Manufacturing built mine, but I don’t think they’re making any during the summer so they can focus on wheelchairs. I just have the regular size…you might wanna ask for the option to take off the wheels with a pin just in case it’s too wide for the Equinox

    Hey Phil, this is Curtis from Orlando. I'm an avid surf fisherman and I watch your videos and enjoy them. Can you please send me contact info on the sandspike holders? I use the same sandspikes you use but have been unable to find holders that work with the balloon tires. I really would appreciate it. Keep the videos coming!

    • @SaltSquatch
      @SaltSquatch  Před 3 lety

      Beach Power Manufacturing made those sand spikes for me (you can find them on Facebook). Right now they are putting a pause on fishing products, but might make some sand spikes for you.

    Do you use a shock leader with the 20lb main braid?

  • @retrogainz
    @retrogainz Před 2 lety

    Do you use a fluorocarbon shock leader on your braid? Also will 20Ibs braid cut your finger when casting? I'm looking to make the switch from mono to braid but not completely sure how to approach it.

    • @cameronriccio6050

      Likely. Go 30 at minimum or you’ll need gloves after lots of casts

    Catfish rod 10ft to 9ft that saltwater rust resistant are perfect for big sharks in surf

  • @AndyOutdoorsChannel

    20 lb imho i think minimum if your going after medium heavy to heavier fish like larger snook, redfish, black drum, Tarpon, Jacks, etc you prob could do more of a minimum 30-40 all the way up to 65lb maybe 80lb braid with a 6000, 8000 and even a 10k size reel especially if your going surf fishing. then using a 10-12ft surf rod with a 5k-8k size reel(making sure to matche the line rating of the reel to rod and if your using 40lb braid with a 6k reel make sure the line your using falls within that rating on the rod so it all flows well with each other. and then look at the rod and reel weight just so you gane make sure you can potentially get the lightest possible setup especially if your going to be casting Lures all day. If your going to be baiting and waiting then weight of overall setup doesnt necesarilly make a difference. people here in the northeast such as the cape code canal will use rods rated for 6-10oz lures and line ratings that arre similar to 20-50lb line and 11 or 12 ft rods that are heavy or extra heavy. So yes ive spent half my life down in florida fishing for everything from sheepshead to snook and smaller side of sharks all from a kayak. ii specifically use a 7.5ft medium heavy split grip spinning rod with a 3500bg with 25lb braid and 30, 50lb leader because its my style of fishing. then the other combo is my trolling behind kayak. Its a ugly stik lite conventional rod, forgot the reel at the time of this, spooled with 20-30lb mono with a leader of 40-60lb mono or fluoro leader to a TA clip 75lb or even the 125lb. but i think this video was very very helpful and understand these reviews and input made by you was your opinions and your suggestions that you found work for you and i really appreciate it.

    Ive been surf fishing for years, ive never heard of anyone using a 4k reel on a 12ft rod.
    Id definitely go 6k or 6.5k on a 12ft rod. If you’re talking van staal on a 12ft rod then a 250 would be perfect.

    I have a vintage Penn 704 greenie and a vintage Penn 710 greenie. Best spinning reels ever made. They are both about 45 years old and will last another 40 years. The Penn Z reels are one of the best surf fishing reels ever made. I'm done buying Chinese garbage. I've had new chinese made Penn reels, okuma, quantum, Lew's, Abu Garcia, pflueger. All worthless garbage. They all crapped out within 2 to 3 seasons.

      Have you built any casting rods for surf? I've got some surf 13xd with Akios 656s and I love them. Haven't found any blanks that fit the bill. I like Florida Surf Tackle rods, Carolina cast pro, AFAW. They'll throw 100 yards easy and have a soft tip for bite detection.

    • @SaltSquatch
      @SaltSquatch  Před 3 lety

      I’ve never used surf casting rods. Along the Gulf Coast we don’t have to cast as far to get to the fish, so spinning tackle does the job great.

    • @Tyler-kw9ce

      @@SaltSquatch yeah we have low relief beaches here in New Smyrna need to make 100 yard casts quite often.
      I was wondering if Richard had any blanks he's used that compare to the rods I listed. I haven't had any luck at Mudhole.

      My 12’ TFO’s have some serious backbone for casting and can get to 100 yards no problem
