To be fair, Benty worked his ass of that 2004/05 season.
We had a unit that worked so well, Timmy Cahill absolutely relished feeding off Marcus Bent's selfless running.

Errm 1 goal in 24 games in 2005/06 season was why he was let go. The other strikers weren't great but Beattie hit 11 in 38 and McFadden 7 in 41 [ironically an identical record to Bent himself in the previous season] His goal to game ratio quite simply wasn't good enough.

      How much did Cahill score

@@linkage645 Cahill's record from Midfield over the two seasons 2005 & 2006 was 12 in 38 games and 8 in 38 games, also from midfield, Leon Osman matched Bent's 7 goals from just 35 games in 2005, Just to emphasise Bent's lack of impact in 2006, defender Joseph Yobo scored twice while midfielder Lee Carsley's 8 goals in 2005 alone matched Bent's total over two seasons. To add more perspective. in 2008, 2 years after Bent left, Yakubu scored 21 goals, Andy Johnson 10 [having hit 11 in 2007] and even defender Joleon Lescott proved more prolific as a goal threat than Bent, with 11 goals over 2007 & 2008.

Was played as mostly impact sub in 05/06 with barely any minutes in those 24 games.
