- Matt Farah will tell you the Porsche Cayenne is not exciting (“My dad drives one”). But that doesn't make it a bad vehicle. In fact, when it comes to overlanding, it’s probably the most comfortable choice you didn’t think of. On this episode of MODIFIED, Matt goes behind the scenes at E-Motion Engineering and checks out how subtle but functional modifications can transform a Cayenne daily driver into a purpose-built escape mobile.

The ending LOL, "the wilderness all to myself" cue the train horn and freeway noise
I know exactly where that is. It's about as wild as your backyard 😂
Didnt go out because of production logistical issues im guessing. He has to deal with: getting the car from the shop, traffic, all the b roll, talking to shop owner, working with camera & audio, and getting everyone home at reasonable time.
@@JoshuaTootell corona isnt it?
Right off the 138/15. The PCT trail is right there, I run there a lot @@bobhope2607
Did that by design :) Felt like a funny joke.
"Are they undervalued in the used market?" "They are undervalued"
Aaaaand prices just went up
Happens with every Porsche. In 5 years a 944 or 986 Boxster will cost at least 15-20,000 in decent condition.
Used car prices will drop in 3 years.
Got my 04-Turbo for 4K. I've never been into Porsche (only had Corvettes), but for a daily driver, this thing is a blast.
My mom bought a Diesel Cayenne two years ago for $18k. Now you can’t find them under $30k
@@baxlife334 Some will. More valued cars will hold their own.
Something worth mentioning is that the Transsyberia was the first generation Cayenne which had a 2 speed transfer case. This is a later 958 generation which has a single speed transfer case with no low-range gear.
You still get the center locking diff but yeah, no rear locker or low range.
958 is not a Porsche designation. The first gen is the 9PA, second gen is the 92A, and the third gen is the 9YA or 9YB for the coupe. It’s he other designations are E1, E2, and E3 for first, second, and third gen.
You are correct about the transfer cases though. The 9PA has a 2-speed transfer case with a 6-speed gearbox. The 92A has a single speed transfer case with an 8-speed gearbox. I think Porsche figured the extra gears made up for the lack of the two speed gearbox.
@@SomeGuy. I realize they aren’t official Porsche designations, but the 955, 957, and 958.1 / 958.2 monikers are used very commonly. Even more than the technically-correct 9PA and 92A.
@@red95gts I have never heard a single person associated with Porsche in my six years of being a Porsche dealer tech use 958. Every other Porsche is always referenced using the Porsche designation on the internet. The Cayenne is almost never referenced by the official designations on the internet.
Hagerty, PLEASE keep throwing money at our favourite CZcamsrs to make ridiculously awesome content.

1 Peter 1:15-16 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy./inspiration+We can all remember the people that have taught us the most. People often exemplify the successful, rich, powerful, and beautiful, thinking that they will be happier and feel better if they were more like them. How often do we follow in the footsteps of the people that are the most holy around us? How often do we actively attempt to follow in the footsteps of Jesus? He gave his life for us to even have that chance and thankfully the Bible has written the guidelines for how we need to live our lives. /prayer+ My holy God, help me realize that I too can be holy through you. When I stray from the path of righteousness, I ask that you push me back towards the path, remembering and realizing all that you have taught me. Finally, I ask that you remind me of the sacrifices that you have made, giving your only son as a sacrifice so that I could also know what it is to be holy. In your son’s holy name I pray. Amen.
Jesus Ochoa Dude... what? Your preaching is NOT welcome here. What a weird way to live...
@@IS300Spartan it's even weirder to think all this came out of nothing without order or cause randomly by chance which is your god
God didn’t build it, Joey Seely did, Matt Farah presented it, and Nickeil Hagerty paid for it. Higher powers weren’t involved dude.
I cracked when Matt commited to go up the ladder. Great video as always!
Joey's shop is so incredibly clean!
After watching this channel for some time, I finally realise that Hagerty doesn't review cars like others . They convey the joy of motoring..
I love it and hate it
I have a 91 Cherokee and a Porsche Cayman. It’s like they got it on in my garage one night.
🤣😂😅
lol
This is EXACTLY what I am doing with my 2013 Cayenne Diesel. So glad that these modifications are realistic and I am stoked to be able to do some of these mods myself. Thank you for this video. Super motivated to get this done.
Matt killing it with this series, honestly. Enjoying it very, very much. Deep and insightful videos with a good video length and enjoyable for hardcore enthusiasts aswell as for more casual car people.
I absolutely love that Hot Rodders are still at it. The fit and finish has improved but it still comes down to a guy in his garage making what the factory created better suit his wants/needs.
4x4ing evolved from Overlanding. We're just getting back to it. Problem is for most of the Country, you can't really Overland without somebody's panties getting in a twist.
last sentence hits hard. it so hard to find good spots to go wheeling that arnt just private land owned by some rancher that has never stepped foot on it.
Love the pan up ending! Ironic!
I love my Cayenne Diesel. We were off roading near Lake Arrowhead today. Tons of fun. It's surprisingly capable out of the box.
I love Matt. Been watching him since his first show and he just has this charm about him. Great job
9:42 timestamp... Sincerely expected some of the "bugs" from Starship Troopers to clamor up and over the rock formation and go after Matt in this shot. Very cool looking area.
I always have to remind myself that gta V is based on california and not the other way around.
GTA was so successful they made a whole state inspired by it
Never thought I’d say this but I want a Cayenne.
It's really not a bad SUV. My neighbor has one. It's the repair costs ugh....
That’s definitely my cup of tea. Tremendous job!👍
I like the definition of overland lifestyle.
OVERLANDING !!!!! ..... Finally after 30 years i now know where i am and what its now called.
Glad my 2nd treg is and will be what we need it to be
Thanks ! keep em coming Matt
As a train buff, I've been considering getting a mild off roader to go train watching. Maybe...
Love the vehicle, and the video thanks for sharing.
Bro, you watched white water summer as a kid. Respect.
Haha I'm dead. The ending was fantastic. Bravo, editor.
The push to match the shove. 🧡
Matt is pure automotive gold
Never knew about this Caynne, loved it!
Finding a first gen with the factory offroad kit is even harder now, thanks.
The VW Toureg, the cousin to Cayenne, was very capable. Locking diffs everywhere. The maintenance on these vehicles is always the killer.
I don’t know about that. My 2008 cayenne s has been one of the most reliable vehicles I’ve owned lol
@@jonathanandrews2188 Is it still reliable? I'm VERY VERY tempted but I don't want to drown in maintenance and repair bills. My dad had a Range Rover and watching that money pit has made me really wary of old European SUVs.
@@shahzebnasir4692 if you’re worried, get it with a Porsche warranty.
@@clearcut6818 An older model? Would they even offer one? Doesn't make sense taking a brand new Cayenne off road and overlanding
@@shahzebnasir4692 if it's under 12 years and 120,000 miles, yes.
I LOVE the "not even one of the fast ones". These things are HARD when modified for over-landing :)
Big fan of this series, love it! By why all the audio issues when doing the shop interviews? Weird trend for such a high quality production
Ever since I saw the Porsche Cayenne in the movie eagle eye I have been in love with it
Amazing edit and video !
well that's bold, my 958 was a heap that was constantly broken. Absolutely loved it when it was running though.
Love the build, not sure if it’s the most capable/practical platform (mostly because of the irs) but definitely unique.
I mean.. the 2nd gen Cayenne is my fav out of the 1st and 3rd gen. It just looks right.
great work! pleasure to watch. I only hope we get to see proper car buff guys one day
Awesome video. I am planning my Cayenne (or maybe Touareg) build.
Superbe préparation !
I literally just ordered a Cayenne and will definitely be modding it out like this! 👍🏼
Top Gear America had three times more time and it didn't explain to me what's the point of overlanding vs off roading, thanks Matt
I don't want the price to skyrocket or anything, but the Touareg (same car) had options for locking center and rear diffs. Really desirable but hard to find.
Had mine 10 years now and will never get rid of it except to do a newer model build soon.
Enjoyed this very much. May I ask the brand and size of lights used on the roof rack?
Very cool!!!
A none stock Cayenne with some better tyres could do most of these kinda journeys ...people need to start using them the way they were intended.
Admire the effort but did they relocate the battery from under the seat? If not you could get stuffed in water crossings at door sill height, let alone above it. Wrote off my GL with off road 4x4 package that way (literally in a puddle between the beach and road)
Absolutely love this build! I could see driving this around town and doing some novice off-road adventures. The biggest drawback with overland it is potential reliability or the unforeseen breakdown away from civilization where you need someone who can work on it or parts replacement.
With porsche reliability? 🤪 I stick with Toyota thanks
I would like to get me a 4x4 one day and go off road! Looks like alot of fun
‘Doesn’t have outlandish livery’ looks at big stickers down the side 🤦♂️
Joey is a true gent and scholar - I remember talking chit at SEMA over the years esp when he was at BBi... Betim and Joey are like the P-car nerds of OC and when cloning becomes a thing it will be good for some carbon copy talent to appear in each city across the world please (impossible I know)
This set-up would look rad on a Lamborghini Urus.. A proper 21st century Rambo Lambo..
Lol, he's like you can see my backyard from here, yep! I'm outdoorsy
That was the joke I’m sure, that’s why they showed the drone shot at the end
Cajon Pass San Bernardino!!! Y’all make it look like a destination 😂
I like how they burst the bubble with the freeway shot at the end
The Porsche Cayenne, is a amazing SUV!
The Cayenne finally makes sense to me.
I can't imagine anyone referring to that truck as a "rock crawler". Maybe someone who has no clue what that term means hahaha.
this is how the Cayenne should have been from the start
vehicle is very cool, this guy on the other hand
😂😂 awesome Matt
How much would this type of conversion would run? I got a 2012 Cayenne S.
Probably about 12k in parts. Plus labor
your video is priceless
Very cool. Are those true beadlocks?
i 100% want to do this to my Touareg!!!
Oh snap matt farrah
*shot pans across lettering E-MOTION OVERLAND*
"We don't need to be in your face livery"
The podcast makes this really funny lmao
3:29 makes me cry...that boxser spyder looks gargantuan next to that air cooled 911.
Was that just dust coincidentally forming patterns on the snorkel or was that an actual camo-like pattern? Either ways it looks wicked and resembles a fat python with its shape n design combined! I'm more of a sportscar/supercar person but i freakin love what some people build when it comes to overlanders! I prefer old school Jeep Cherokees, Nissan Patrols, Toyota LC 100s, Mitsubishi Pajeros n LR Defenders tho
The skid plate is available for general folks ?
Its REAL EASY to delete the EGR and DPF and tune these motors to make about 330hp and 570tq and to tune the trans to be MUCH better.....and you wont loose any reliability and will gain lots of range
Nice ending!!!! 👍😂
🔥
What were those wheels and rim combo and brand pls?
Somehow this makes me think about the future of EV overlanding. Wondering if an F150 lightning would have better or worse qualities than a car like this.
These Over Landing Cayenne SUV's need to become Hot Wheels
I drive a 2011 Cayenne Diesel and know what this car i capable for. It is not yet driven 90000 miles and i would love to do these modifications but do not have the knowledge or contacts to do this. Probably can't afford it either. In Sweden, we must have a summer tyre and a winter tyre. The summer one is not suitable for off-road (35 profile) but the winter tyre makes it more terrain worthy. (The winter tyre is very heavy and i wonder what the wheels on the presented cars weighs and if it is possible for a "normal" driver to change it.) Overland is not really possible in Sweden as driving in terrain is prohibited. But there are a lot of forest roads, made for trucks, available and the presented Cayenne with the wheels and skid plates would be perfect.
I’ve never thought this guy was a good reviewer. Jason please.
12:32 when the Jew crosses himself before camping... LOL. Much respect to Matt and the crew!
I am planing such a build on a 1st gen Cayenne. Because here in the EU its not legal to modifie the front bumper at cars build from 2006....
Can you quote regulation pls, I am from EU too.
I live in LA. What trail were you on?
This workshop is cleaner than my bathroom.
What are the measurements on those wheels and tires?
I'd like to see something similar for the Macan diesel?
where can i buy the snorkel kit for 9pa 2006 v8 s.4.5?
Now this is the Cayenne in its element
I think Porsche got it right when they won Transsyberia
Anyone know the song being played? I love it!
Would’ve been interesting to see if they had a used a Turbo
what tires and dimensions that cayenne is running ?
Where is this place where he turned on to the trail?
Yeah these are my new hyper fixation now 😂
What was the cost of turning the Cheyenne into an “over-landing” automobile?
What's the camera car in the rear view at 11:31?
11:50 Is that a semi at "the spot"? I am glad I live in the Appalachian woods, haha. Edit, I posted a minute too soon, hahaha.
I respect how they kept it real in the end
@@nathanchildress5596 Indeed, haha.
What wheels and tires are those?
Plot twist: the camera crew's driving a Toyota.
Great video! Probably filmed with a Range Rover or a Land Cruiser. ;)
RR wouldn't be there, it would be getting fixed. Land Cruiser would be however :P
cayennes are waterproof from the bottom up, then you realize rain pours in from above

I have done rougher off-roading in the Prius...no joke.
