  • Inclement weather continues to lash the Cape, leaving many homes flooded in Khayelitsha, Langa and Delft among others. While no major incidents have been reported, the SA weather service has warned residents to brace themselves for a drop in temperatures and rain in the coming days as a cold front makes landfall.

      Agreed. The Eastern Cape government is almost defunct as a province. The amount of corruption and malmanagement there is scary. There is no way that the ANC should get their hands on the Western Cape because it will be turned into another Eastern Cape.

      @@morrissamuels5984 it is already there. They build houses in EC even if it's a mud house. They vote for ANC in EC, and they rush to Cape Town soon after election with lots of scraps to build funny shacks anywhere they feel right for them without consulting anyone. After that they demand government houses and they will be given while Cape Townians are in list for many years. Eastern Cape government has learned not to use money for their citizens problems because they have DA to solve their problems. It is not DA or Cape Town fault that make these changes. Eastern Cape people have turned Cape Town into ragged shack city and it's quite undesirable. The most ugliest, clustered shacks in unfit dwelling areas. Look like they don't care because if it's not fire then it's flooding for years. Worse situation in CTP of all SA provinces.

    The Biggest problem is that People Don't want to build their homes on Higher ground. And year after year these flooding make their lives miserable. If you don't want to learn, feel it. Sorry. Where is a lot of government land, let auntie Pat do her work to identify these land cause They, the ANC, can't put their Responsibilities on this province and after all play the Blame Game.

      The land has been identified years ago and the DA has been asking for it. When Auntie Pat was with the DA , she was asking for it. Now that she is with the ANC , she has forgotten about Cape Town.

    These people shouldn't come crying now. I live in Cape Town and saw the mayor's warnings to the community living in the low lying areas. He and other Counselors did warn the community to try to keep the drainage system clean from garbage as this causes the water blockage and then the water has no where else to go. As you can see in the camera shot, garbage is everywhere. Don't discredit the mayor, send the ignorant community back to school.

    This is not about sqatter camps in cape Town. It's worse in KZN. Water went in a plush area in umhloti and washed peoples s R10m houses. Our roads are broken, no water for63 days. We are suffering here.We worked so hard and all our houses are flooded. We lost loved away who got swept by the rain. Stop saying our people. Talk about the citizens in this country who was affected.

    The City of Cape Town, subcouncil 8 in particular, is ready to spend over R20 million on recreational parks in the name of "nature conservation" but people are living in inhuman conditions. This money can be reprioritized to address the community's immediate needs. But like, councilor Diniso has correctly mentioned, City of Cape Town ALWAYS imposes its plans on communities. Is it logical to play on a R20 million park yet your house is worth less than R2000, it sinks in water, there are no libraries where kids can learn (outside school set-up), no youth centres where qualified UNEMPLOYED graduates could assist High School LEARNERS so that you increase number of young people who qualify for university admission, therefore reduce CRIME etc. City must prioritize basic necessary infrastructure before parks(which end up being dumbing sites and hotspots of crime). You should call Erika Williams, the Subcouncil chairperson and ask her what mitigation or preventative measures they have put in place for, not only Lwandle and Nomzamo, but also Asanda Village and the budget thereof . Almost nothing! Ward 85 (Asanda Village including the informal settlements) is even worse. It is left to fend for its own by its councilor, Chantall Cerfontein, the councilor has never set her foot in this ward so one wonders how will she know what the community and its people need. If City of Cape Town took the people of Nomzamo, Asanda Village, and Lwandle seriously and was genuine about "working with communities, this disastrous situation would have been, at least, mitigated if not prevented but ke mxm! Newsroom Afrika you should really consider inviting ward 85 councillor to answer on when will honor her oath of office or asxelele uba akwakwazi so that senze icebo, ngoba as things stand, ward 85 is also a burden to the already overloaded ward 86 councillor.

      Meanwhile , the ANC spends millions on name changes.
      Recreational facilities are a necessity.
      Housing is mostly National Governments responsibility.

    • @mawandesigwinta3280
      @mawandesigwinta3280 Před 2 lety +2

      @@rockrabbit253 What do you understand about prioritization? Do you know how many recreational facilities that are already in these communities while necessary infrastructure is being ignored? Do you know how many of these parks have been converted into dumping-sites? Do you know that the very same City of Cape Town spends over R300 million on waste management? Sometimes we should forget about politics and look at the naked reality! All of the challenges I have mentioned above are the responsibility of the City of Cape Town. City of Cape Town is not a political party but a municipality, whether it is run by you, me or any political party, it is obliged to deliver services to the communities "based on the needs" of those communities. On a lighter note, we like to play and conserve frogs, indigenous plants and snakes etc, but for us to enjoy this beautiful nature we need to be alive. Basic infrastructure like clinics, libraries, youth development centres are more important than a park, especially when there are already a handfull of "recreational facilities" that are dumping-sites and crime hotspots!

      Maybe DA has learned to stop stressing about people who do as they please. They come from EC, some from Zimbabwe, Lesotho etc and just erect their shacks wherever they damn please. DA has learned to stop warning them or teaching them and preventing these shacks thing. DA is enough to be always blamed for people living their homes wherever they come from and make the city destructive and messy. Because whenever they address these problems, they will be accused of being racist and should not say anything because they are not Africans or they whites stuff like that. You can't blame DA for other provinces and other countries unlimited influxes. Cape Town built many reasonable flats to rent and many apartments for non Cape Townians. But EC people have taught all migrants to build shacks and not to respect the laws. I don't feel sorry for anyone but only the young children.

I do feel sorry for them cause I know poverty very well I am also experiencing it as we speak even though I don't stay in a shack. Now I am depending on NSFAS once a year🤦. M greatful though♥️
