What is it with everyone saying that Danielle is getting cocky or that her, Ariel and Rostam are leaving Este and Alana out? Este and Alana are not there, so it's natural that the rest don't want to speak for them. Also Danielle did most of the drum work for this album, she has the right to speak for herself and take credit for the drums alone. And notice that she doesn't she "I" but she says "we", and that also includes her sisters when it comes to creating music and writing. She isn't being egotistical and neither is Ariel or Rostam, and the reason she is talking more than she used to is because the interview is only about the music-creating process (when the HAIM sisters get asked about how excited they are or about something irrelevant, she is still the most quiet one). HAIM wouldn't work if each of the sisters and producers didn't contribute and this interview is not about not crediting Alana and Este, it's about talking a bit about the producing side of things. Also, have you seen how close the sisters are? Stop being disrespectful.
Agree. In interviews, Este and Alana always say that they prefer playing live than doing the job in the studio
You're right. Danielle is today's most humble music superstar, Si she co-produced the album with Ariel Rechtshaid, and Rostam stands to reason she's credited as producer. Este and Alana are not here because this conversation is about music production and they have not participated in this section. That they didn't win the Grammy for best album seemed like an Injustice to me.
PS: If one day Danielle wanted to do two careers at the same time, a solo apart from continuing with the band; She has the talent, the ability and the knowledge to sing, play all the instruments and self-produce without having to rely on anyone else.
Agree
WIMPIII is the album of the year for me. Incredible songs and incredible sonics. THANK YOU!!!!
Hard agree! So glad Pensado's Place got them on.
Mine too
15:10 "I could talk about drums all day 💁" hahahaha cuuuuute!
I'm so inspired by this! HAIM's music is such an inspiration to me - the songwriting, the emotion, the production. I'm taking notes! It's so encouraging to hear that they played live shows for over 6 years before signing a label deal. I'm in the midst of my development as an artist and this video makes me motivated to keep chasing my dream!
everyone is so excited to be talking about wimpiii and I'm living for it
ahh i'm so glad this exists! i'm so obsessed with the production on WIMPIII, it inspires what i'm working on rn. thank you!
this is so much more than an interview...it's a total master class in production, creative process, collaboration and all with pure heart and soul. Taking copious notes, thank you! 🙏
DAVE, HERB. Incredible episode. Thank you! 3 kind souls! Legendary x
could watch hours and hours of these 5 talk
Thank you soooo much for this. So stoked, WIMPIII might be my AOTY.
That they didn't win the Grammy for best album and best rock song seemed like an Injustice to me!!.
Full Rostam episode please!
I second that!!! He's my production hero!
This was so good! Thank you Dave and Herb for putting this together! You’re efforts inspire and keep the art and the process of it at the forefront. Bless you guys ❤️
Absolutly in love with this album, sounds fresh, sometimes happy, sometimes sad, funny, nostalgic, but always good. What a pleasure to listen to this !
One of the best so far. Greats amoungst giants. Thank you very much for so many insights.
One of my favorite episodes you've ever done!
Love that story about Mick Fleetwood. So awesome haha
A powerhouse of producers, artists!
These folks are brilliant! Plus I know that Ariel and Rostam have done so much great work with many different artists. Ariel even mentioned Scully decks. 🔥 So old school!
legendary!
this is so cool and super inspiring! thank you so much!
But “ARE THEY IN STEREO?” 😂
THANK YOU for clarifying SPL transient designer by UAD (throws into cart)
this is SO great!
Dream Team!
great!
Great discussion!
Cool segment!
I'm officially calling this "Jimmy Fallon" style interviewing.
Sorry I'm not american and don't understand the reference, I know he's sone sort of comedian but idk how that relates
@@dominicdunn2579 Fallon is famous for interrupting his guests before letting the person finish
Apologies in advance for the rookie question but what does it mean to record drums in stereo vs mono? Does it have to do with mic placement, or does it just mean recording two waveforms for L & R as opposed to one for mono?
mic placement!!
Great video. Can I make a sugestion? You should interview Trent Rreznor and Steve Albini
Piccolo snare 😂
Center of x
There is nothing I take more serious than plumbing. I kill entire day cares over the shit.
This entire show is a test to be a good engineer by whether or not herb drives you crazy with his selfish ways to talk about himself or showing he isnt listening to the story by trying to interrupt and go to batters box. I love music but I do not have the ass kissy attitude to put up with a Herb. Even though im fully aware how much he has impacted Daves career.
I'm glad other people have noticed this. It's quite cringe.
@@AdamInAudio To me Dave's lessons about mixing and the guest's lessons are always secondary to the fact this show is designed as a test of thick skin and ass kissing attitude towards suits like Herb who are socially unaware yet enabled by desperate engineers/artists.
Jaycen Joshua is a great example of this, great engineer, nice guy on the show but in reality he mixes for Chris Brown and if you ask him why does he support one of the industry's most well known serial woman abuser he will simply block you.
@@jasonjasonjasonjasonjason I had this episode on my watch later queue forever because of the reason you just mentioned. It's one of those catch-22s with an episode like this.
I would have to have a 4some with HAIM... lol
Lying colon? Not to me man.
This was a tough watch. I always thought of Haim as a three piece, but it seems I didn't know which three. This seems to remove Este and Alana completely from the Haim creative process. I wonder what they think about this, especially when Ariel, who seems a real dick, disparages Alana's singing.
Ariel seems like he wants to take over doesnt it. Alana and este are super talented . Haim is the sisters!
The thing is Ariel like a lot of producers is a failed musician, so they get their kicks twiddling the knobs for more talented artists.
I think Ariel is weak link in the overall production of all the Haim albums. I would dearly love to see the girls reach out to an old school producer and rid themselves of all the production gadgetry they put in haphazardly on some songs. Regardless I love the album. I'd recommend go listening to Crash Test Dummies "And God Shuffled His Feet" album for great sounding drums. Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads fame does a number on those drums.
@@ianhampton1208 lol
When did he criticise Alana's singing?
Math brain?
You play pop music.
Not odd time classical music. Stop talking.
"Super group" HAIM? Any real drummer is scratching their heads right now.......
How to say you're a misogynist without saying you're a misogynist...
@@beawardzinski ....how to say you're a dumbass without saying you're a dumbass. My comment said NOTHING about the sex of the band members. They suck because they have little talent, not because they are women.I think you live in a misandrist bubble....
