🇩🇴 Discovering the Heart of Puerto Plata: A Walking Tour of the City Center

- Puerto Plata, located in the Dominican Republic, is a destination that is rich in history and natural beauty. Often referred to as the birthplace of tourism in the country, it offers a wide range of attractions that are sure to please any traveler. From its stunning beaches to its lush valleys, the area boasts a diverse landscape that includes the sea, mountains, rivers, and an abundance of beaches. The region is also known for its fertile soil which produces cacao and coffee trees, as well as being home to some of the world's clearest amber.
Christopher Columbus himself recognized the potential of this northern Atlantic coastline when he first laid eyes on it in 1492. The explorer was so taken by the sight of clouds shimmering over Mount Isabel de Torres and illuminating Puerto Plata's vast blue shoreline, he named the area the “Silver Port” and decided to settle at La Isabela with a mixed community of Tainos (original inhabitants of the area) and Spaniards. He also built the first church and his first home in the Americas. Visitors to the area can now follow in Columbus's footsteps and tour the archaeological ruins which are now part of a national park.

Wouldn't someone living retired in Puerto Plata feel overrun with the cruise ship crowds? How can it be so relaxed with all the cruise ship crowds?And why is Puerto Plata preferable to you over Sosua?
No it's a great city . Sometimes you will be happy to meet new people. the folks on the ships only go in a few spots.

We parked right in the front with no problems.

From what I see I'm not interested in Sosua, or Cabarete, Terrenas. Can you recommend some quiet hotels in Puerto Plata without noisy crowds in the area, geared to older folks near stores and restaurants easy to o walk around without a car. Thanks
One place is in Sosua but not in the Strip. Its called ocean village I made a video on it nice peaceful place.
