The best nights are clear and moonless. If the solar activity is high at that time we can also get some beautiful colours and beams.
Check out our uploaded videos for past timestamps and time lapse recordings of our night sky.
We stream at 1440p so for best viewing quality make sure to set your video to the highest resolution! (Settings cog -- quality -- 1440p, or 2160p if available)
Note: for night footage we have it set to a slower shutter speed and higher gain bringing out the colours as opposed to black and white IR footage.
This means that when the moon is between quarter--full--quarter, the nights look like daytime. For those that wonder why the live view changes at times, perhaps the quality is sometimes better than others, or there is a slightly different layout, or a green dot in the corner! We run a primary stream (which is better quality on a very good PC) and a backup stream which is on a workstation incase the primary PC drops out for any reason like powercut or internet connection failure etc. We have no control over which stream is LIVE to you at any time, the only way we can manually change it over is stop the stream and allow it to fail over to the 'other' stream. The BACKUP stream has the green dot!
Big camera looks South to South West.
Second Camera (long) looks North. (infrared sensor no colour unfortunately)
Camera is located in Kina - Tasman and is looking south, towards Wakefield and beyond. -- WISP Tasman #wisptasman
