  • Here I show you how I got the Toyota MR2 fuel tank out of the car and we get to see how bad it really was.
    This is a big job but after doing it the first time it's not too bad. It does require some time and effort especially if its you first project car.
    The fuel tank needs a major over haul and well I need new fuel line and other things.

    I bought a 91 MR2 Turbo from my neighbor last year, he said it sat for 14 years when I tried to start it, it kept failing so looks like the pump so glad I found your video

      @@warrenpeas while you have the tank out inspect the brass coolant pipes that are near the engine side. They tend to leak from the brackets that bolt on to the body.

    The fuel tank, in my opinion, is the hardest job to do in that car, even worse than any heater core. The install is even worse, and god forbid you got rust in the tank, cause that job may require a long lecture, and likewise even the help of a professional at a radiator shop, that is, if you find one who will do that for you without stripping the sump and diffusers in the tank. The Evap lines and fuel return, to me, is one of the hardest issues with the install.
    One time I went across the country with my mark 1, same tank location and almost identical to the SW20. When I crossed into Mexico, no problemo, but on the way back, they were highly upset that they could not locate the fuel tank, in their 40 minute drug search endeavor.

    What a terrible job! You are doing yours in winter . We are trying to do ours in summer in Australia with super high humidity and we are on a unlevel mud area . Our car is barely jacked up enough to fit a person under . Thanks for your video . We can see why people cut through their inside housing to get to the fuel pump .

      If it were me I wouldn’t cut anything because it doesn’t need too. I’d take it to place or move it somewhere where this is an even surface or use pile wood for the jack and jack stands

    20:15 when you stand on the chair whats it stuck on? what did you remove to get the back of the tank to drop?

    • @secondhandspeed
      @secondhandspeed  Před 10 měsíci

      It’s the vapor and canister lines that go to the charcoal canister. I found it easier to remove that brass line that connects to the tank with two rubber hoses
