  • I’ve been planning on making each of the girls a lined drawstring backpack for awhile now. But I’ve been putting it off, because sewing intimidates me. (even though my most popular post of all time is a sewing tutorial)
So when my friend Bari J asked me if I wanted to do a project with her New Fabric Line, it was the kick in the butt I needed to finally pull the trigger on making each of the girls their own lined drawstring backpack!

Made this today. Looked through lots of vids to get an idea how to make a back pack PE bag and this one was by far the best!! Easy to follow and really clear instructions. ❤

I love that you made a mistake and you shared it! I do that all the time and it felt good to see someone else grappling with how to go forward after a sewing mistake

Great instructions and demo. With your video I successfully made backpacks for my son and didn't want it to have the ruffle at the top to make it less feminine. I skipped the double chalk line and left it as one and simply pulled the string through the very top of the backpack. I don't know how to upload an image of my final products - but they turned out great from watching this! Thanks so much. Also, your mistake was perfect for the awareness for others to pay attention to the direction of the fabric print.

Erica, Thank you. We are so grateful to hear about your success story... Good idea about moving the string to the top of the bag! If you would like you can email us. Our email address is on our about page.

I’ve looked at many videos and the ones that I’ve found have the drawstring loops on the outside bottom of the bag which I don’t like.
This is an easy video. I completed the backpack today from the Reality Daydream website.

Love your tutorial. Easiest one to follow and make. Thank you, but I made loops at the bottom as I hadn’t got a kid near me to measure the length and thought mum could do that when they received them. Not quite as tidy as yours but look good.,

I want to make a dinosaur one for my 5 year old grandson. The problem is he is in Texas and I am in Ohio so I can't measure him for the drawstring. I noticed at the end of the video there were 3 little girls so I was wondering if you could give me the drawstring measurement for the smallest one please. Thank you!!
