    The genius of your videos is that they offer something very different. Its very hard to establish yourself nowadays teaching on the Internet. The competition is simply not fair. Your videos however target a part of the material that most larger comapnies don't cover too well (not in a practical way at least).
    Very grateful for your work. My CK is tomorrow 🙏🙏

    Before watching Dr Neil's videos I felt like an absolute mess when faced with a Biostats Q and now it seems too easy it's unbelievable! My only regret is that I didn't find these videos earlier as my Step 3 is 1 week from today but even so they were more helpful than a whole 2 weeks of studying Biostats so thank you so much Dr Neil and God Bless you! I am literally going to recommend this channel to everyone I know! Good luck everyone 🙏

    For the Odds Ratio question, I believe the answer should be (60/40)/(200/160).
    Odds Ratios (a/c)/(b/d) represent the odds of exposure among cases (a/c) vs odds of exposure among controls (b/d). In this problem, being old is represented as the exposure (a,b) and the case is represented as a low score (c,d).

    • @ronnymervis6963
      @ronnymervis6963 Před 2 lety +11

      Just to add a little to this. His equation/answer was just written incorrectly. it should have been "(60/200)/(40/160)" as opposed to "(60/200)/(40)/(40+160)". Rearranging the fraction, as you did (i.e., (a/b)/(c/d) rearranged to (a/c)/(b/d)) yields the exact same answer (OR=1.2)

    In last question about the Odss Ratio, the answer should be (60/200)/ (40/160), why is it option C?
    And in the question about the RR about the prostate cancer
    The formula you wrote is (a/a+b)/ (c/c+d) 15:43 and because "first on top" it goes backwards, (c/c+d)/(a/a+b), but still, the process you followed was (b/b+d)/ (a/a+c)... im confused

    Thank you very much for your videos. For the Odds Ratio question, the answer C should be 60/200 / 40/160?

    Thank you for your help Dr Neil! Just one question. On 22:10 you said it is a case control study. I think it is a retrospective cohort since we can look at low USMLE scores as a disease. So if we have two groups, one with a risk factor for low score (being older) and one without the risk (being younger) and we look retrospectively to see if they had low scores ('a disease') then I would consider it a cohort study. It is similar to observing if smokers and non-smokers developed COPD or SCLC. If it was a case control, we would have a group with low scores (a disease) and a group without low scores (no disease) and then we would look if they were exposed to a risk factor such as an old age. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

      That is what the table indicates, a group of low score vs a group with no low score and they're studying how many people were older than 50 in both groups and what are the odds of you getting a low score if you're older then 50.
      Note the text in the question gives incomplete information, the table explained it better.

    Question about the question at 24 minutes. Why for the Odd ratio answer is the denominator 40/(40+160) should it not just be 40/160?

    @24:29 Answer C should not be 60/200 divided by 40/160?

    For the problem at 13:48, why don't we consider the true positives and true negatives? Because to me, every number is getting smaller, TN/TP/FN/FP. So just logistically, I would have said nothing changes. Because the numerator got small as the denominator got small as well.
