    Outside of the Big Muff clone conversation. I wanted to let you know the DRONE MASTER is absolutely fantastic. It is way more nuanced than I expected. The DM is extremely sensitive to your pick attack, vol, and has all the harmonics. Excellent work. Thank you for sharing your gift.

      I think Steve Turner used a V6, the early 80s transistor version, they have a really weird almost spitty breakup compared to most Muff models, the only thing that sounds similar to those is the Nano according to him.

    I just built myself a green Russian clone with a toggle for flat EQ and I'm thinking about adding some more mods. I listen to a ton of artists that use muffs and it's hard not to love the sound, but for some reason, they've never really FELT the way I wanted them to playing through them.

    My favourite is still a triangle I think. I have tried to like more modern muffs and its the style I think I prefer. Depends on the amp, guitar and riffs but there is something I like in the midrange (or lack thereof being a muff).

    Such a great video man, been looking forward to this one. For me the Green Russian is the holy grail, but when it comes to cutting through a mix in a band situation, maybe the triangle or op amp would be better. MF 4 mid versatility is damn cool too đŸ€˜. How about a RAT circuit shoot-out next?

      @youreallygotmenow4855 Pƙed 2 lety

      I'm pretty sure it's the exact opposite of what you wrote, Nigel.
      The Green Russian has more low-end and way more mids than the Op-Amp, which is voiced more 'scooped' (unless you set the Tone stack bypass on).
      The Triangle also has less mids than the Green Russian, so in a band mix context the one that would cut through the most would definitely be the Green Russian.
      It's the 'fattest' of the three variants.

    • @xXmortitionXx
      @xXmortitionXx Pƙed 2 lety +1

      @@youreallygotmenow4855 the best kill-switch I’ve found is a green russian muff, just kick that thing on and drop out of the mix completely lol thats been my experience in a band anyway.

    Enjoyed that shootout. Didn't realise how the volume knob affects the tone.
    They all sounded quite similar to me, until you started sweeping the tone knob. I like the way the Green Russian starts to crap our at either end of the tone range.
    I used to own an original op-amp fuzz. Sold it last year as it was the worst sounding fuzz I owned out of about 7 different fuzzes I have.

    • @sagespane7617
      @sagespane7617 Pƙed 3 lety

      The tone of pedal itself does not really change with the level control but the amp gets hit harder and compresses more.
      That's why it sounds brigther and clearer with low output and sludgier with higher output.
      Just fyi :)

The only 2 I could use with every guitar are the MF-4 and Op-Amp. Op-Amp seems to be a bit thin at times tho(not always a bad thing) The Civil Unrest has a mids knob as does MF-4 But they are COMPLETELY different. It's really helpful and explains almost every detail of the circuit.
      There are no 100nF Electrolytic Capacitors needed, just some 100nF Film Capacitors (or 1uF film, depending on the muff model)
