- Hands On With Maxon: Introduction to Redshift - Part 1: Getting Started in Redshift
Join Maxon Trainer Elly Wade as she guides you through learning Redshift inside of Cinema 4D right from the beginning. Throughout this four-part workshop Elly will be diving into a wide range of techniques from understanding node materials, to creating lights and camera effects and even jumping into some of the essential render settings for that perfect finished look.
Get comfortable in Redshift in just 4 weeks. These 2-hour sessions are designed for artists with little to no experience in Redshift and will be run inside of Cinema 4D 25. Attendees are invited to follow along with the techniques shown throughout the session, however they are also recorded and available to re-watch in your own time.

Just wasted a couple of hours thinking my new install of Redshift was not working from following this vid and looking for the Redshift tab that was mentioned right off. Maxon tech finally got back to me that the tab is gone as Redshift is more integrated in C4D now -doh!
Since this tutorial is what shows up when you search for "Redshift Intro" on the Maxon learning site I thought I'd share my experience and head off anyone else's problem with the same gotya. Good that Maxon is developing things so fast though that a vid from 4 months a go is outdated so quickly. Cheers
Elly and Chad thanks so much for this awesome intro to Redshift. I have just recently subscribed to C4D S26 and Redshift. This is the first tutorial that I have seen that explains the renderer in layman terms and in such an easy to follow along format. I look forward to watching the rest of this series and to hopefully producing some exciting renders with Redshift :)
Happy to finally check this out as I now have Redshift with S26. Very cool and excited to learn this, thanks guys.
Great job. Very grateful for the clarity of explanation... helps tremendously in forming a good foundation.
Went through 8 redshift tutorials and this is the only one that made sense, and that was actually made for beginners! Thank you
This was so so so helpful!
I knew most of the things that were discussed here, but it was knowledge that I acquired from a hundred different video lectures and blogs. This was the first video that covered everything. I am super excited for the node materials lecture. Thank you guys so much. These lectures are invaluable.
Just switched from Octane to Redshift and was looking for online courses. So happy I found this first. A brilliant job of explaining the basics. Thank you!
Great! very well explained, thanks Elly and Chad.
A wonderful and simple to follow introduction to Red Shift. Thank you!
Very helpfull! And perfectly explained. Thanks Maxon Team!
Very helpful. It's the cat's pajamas. I appreciate the extra effort of putting the timecode links in the description.
What a pleasant and informative workshop. I was fairly intimidated by Redshift until now but thanks to this workshop, I feel way more confident! thanks, guys!
Very useful, I’ve been looking for an entry point into Redshift and this fits the bill perfectly
Those redshift videos are fire! Thanks a lot!
Because of you, I learned more than in my university in two Semester
Thank You very much
This was really great, thank you.
Amazing! Worth every minute!
Heh Elly. GREAT intro! A really useful resource to have on CZcams.
Very helpful this training!!!
i just love it .. very helpful tutorial
Thanks for the chapters 🥰
Useful and interesting!
So much has changed in R26, it would have been better to have produced these later with the new interface.
This is great!!
Really really helpful !
Thanks for your time and hard work.
Really Thanks appreciate it
Dear Teachers... one question: How come in redshift mode you can still access ordinary sky and lights? with me, when I change my renderer to Redshift all I can see is only RS related lights, sky and all... but not the ordinary ones... How can I fix it?
Hi! Thank you very much for the content for the Redshift initiation. Which video you mean in the minute 1:34:00?
Can I ask, what Mac system and GPU are you using for this please? It looks pretty snappy in the IPR. After 26 years of Mac OS I built my own PC for the purpose of both a cpu upgrade, and to utilise GPU rendering with Redshift, (which is great speed wise) but I still truly loath Windows, 2 years on!
really nice informatic tenurial and lovely community and
thank u! im an architecture student trying to level up my renderings and this was so helpful, elly is a great teacher
I wish you guys would start a series of Plain OId Physical Rendering of Static Product-Type objects. In Manufacturing and Retail, buyers want to see realistic packages before issuing a purchase order. I, for one, would love to see a perfected Polybag holding stuff. (Been trying to perfect this for 5 years) Cannot seem to get the reflections on the bag material right. You know, the kind of cheap items you get at a $1.25 Store. Just asking.
Sadly, the bit.li link to the files doesn't appear to be working anymore. Just came across this workshop, looking to get into Redshift, so now I'm a bit bummed out, since I won't be able to follow along anymore.....Would it be possible, to update the link please? Or did I miss my chance?
I tried using the A/B feature inside the Redshift Renderview snapshots, and could set an A and B snapshot, but I couldn't find a way to actually enable A/B viewing like in the picture viewer. I'm really new to C4d and Redshift, so am I missing something?
Nice introduction to Redshift render. Very good explanation with some demo. You're a perfect Maxon Trainer Elly. You give enjoy learning. It's something no easy to make. Great job to you.
I know you can purchase more licenses of Redshift to make a in house renderfarm. How does it work. If you have 4 mac mini connected to your imac pro and want to use the render Queue for an animation is it the same as cpu rendering and just click on team? is there any setup involve so redshift can use the renderfarm? Thanks
R26, seems to be no more shader graph, if so please let me know. I still love shader graph. Thank you
Exposure is a term from photography which refers to how bright the image is. Over exposed means the film was exposed to light for too long and the whites are starting to blow out. Underexposed is too dark.
@15:31 you show the Redshift menu which exists on the Mac, where is that on Windows?
How do you open your RS materials inside of the Shader Graph instead of the Node Editor? Thanks!
Did you figure this out?
HI. HOW CAN INSERT HDRI IMAGES IN "THE NEW" ASSET BROWSER!!! AND WHATS CAN I DO IF I HAVE THOUSEND OF HDRI TO IMPORT IN THE ASSET BROWSER IN A FAST WAY!!! AND THEN...OPEN MY ASSET BROWSER IS GONA TAKE YEARS IN OPEN??
THANKS (SORY THE MAYUS, IS AFTER EFFECTS RENDER :) ))
when i set the emission weight , the part of the sphere is not glowing as in tutorial, how to fix it?
I was really ecstatic about redshift coming in cinema 4d and I can access it in cinema 4d but when I want to render, it does not work and shows following messages: license error, no device available. why does it do that?
Why the redshift menu doesn't appear in the first menu at the top (file, edit, create, etc.). 😅
Open project settings, switch to Redshift Render as the project renderer, now it should appear.
Boa noite. qual e a configuração da sua maquina, por favor
Providing scenes only in .c4d format... Thank You as Redshift customer and Blender user :/ It would be massive, titanic job to export default scene as obj or fbx :/
Redshift isn't rendering particles for me in 3D Studio Max...
yes you can use a video for the back plate. you have to export it as a png sequence. I used one here czcams.com/video/M4mfaF8AYU8/video.html
Did we ever find out the answer for video in the back plate? 😵
Cinema 4d R25 Redshift Render download link plzz?
Why make this then FULLY change the UI and integration so that learning is HARDER not easier! Because the REDSHIFT button is gone! So how do we follow?
Hey David, in S26 you can go to Edit > Preferences then inside the Redshift section you can enable the Redshift menu button at the top. Also, we're currently running a new C4D workshop which is covering the new S26 + Redshift 3.5 Workflows, here's part 1; czcams.com/video/1ZrZw0JC180/video.html hope this helps
@@MaxonTrainingTeam Thank you! And yes that helped alot!! Also, Thank you for responding. I have greater view of your care :) (It's better then Autodesk) they don't care at all!!!
Redshift Menu button not there? here you go - czcams.com/video/4nG10MIVolY/video.html

2:02:15 I didn't see a difference :(
A top tip for any trainer - and I speak with 25 years training experience: No matter how much you know, you won't know everything. Every so often you'll get asked a question you don't know the answer to. This is what I say: "I honestly don't know, but I'll find out." I then find out, make sure I fully understand it, and then I update them. NEVER EVER pretend you know something that you don't.
59 minutes in. Intensity vs Exposure.
I think you need to do some work, and make an edit.
Hey Mike, thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts, we always appreciate any feedback to help improve on our sessions!
Octane > Redshift
well thats like, your opinion man
Me > you (also all small letters)
lol, Octane is fast as fuck.
That Apex Octane
Shame on you for not making it integrate with Blender in a mac environment.
All this fake enthusiasm makes this unbearable. Just teach the stuff and stop trying to impress your bosses with all this gibberish “so excited” BS.
I'm pretty experienced with RS already, but I highly appreciate the free assets. Great way to encourage people to use your products tbh
