Hiya Simon, great question my friend, the base i was applying the mixture too is plywood and it's really dry, previously i applied neat plaster to a dry surface it dried out too quickly and then broke aprt, so i spray the water to dampen down before applying the laster/ashphalt mix that way the ply doesnt absorb all the water from the mix too quickly, it's dried really well and hopefully stuck fine now, Thanks so much Simon i really appreciate your interest my friend
Thanks for showing us how you made the road surface Digger. I will take a closer look at that method when I need to do more roads on my layout. Regards. Mark.
Interesting technique! I use fine black sanding paper which has become slightly grey and weathered after I have used it for sanding jobs. It looks quite realistic as a road surface, but then I always have joints and that's not ideal. Then your technique looks better. Great video 👍 Cheers 🙋♂️ Erik
Wow Digger I haven't seen this product before. I definitely intend on looking for it. Im actually making roads on my and the museums layouts. I have been using tile grout for them. Something i learned from Midnight Railroad's Utube channel. Very cool, Chris
great video mr digger sir, ive got some old roads to do and this looks like it might be just the ticket for what i want to do👍 on a side note mr plastic man sitting at the table has had his house and dinner removed😧 all the best sir and thankyou for sharing your talent and knowledge👍
Very interesting! I read somewhere that this AK Asphalt should be more suitable for larger scales from 1/35 upwards, but in this mixture it seems to work. Many years ago I had my own mix of different materials, which wasn't perfect at the time, but it had potential. Unfortunately it can't be reproduced today, so I'm looking for alternatives - and your mix looks really good (although I would probably adapt the recipe a bit for my specific needs)... Thanks for showing, Digger!
I hadn't really looked into it as being scale specific or more suitable for one scale in particular, it's very easy to use and can be sanded down etc. i think you have to get really really close to it to see the "grain" of the tarmac but it does look quite effective on the layout. Many thanks my friend
@@DiggerEvans For my project I need some of this "grain", but not too coarse. > Can be sanded...< - that's very good to know because finally this is what does the trick. And I'm also thinking about mixing it with some crackle medium (crackle paste... or whatever it's called) to create some random cracks on the road surface (I know, I could just engrave those too , but I like it "really naturally random"). My mind is still spinning, but it will be some time before I can start trying it out... By the way, I'm just watching your video "Tarmac Roads..." from a year ago, a very good addition.
@@PolLight3000 Thank you for your continued support my friend, once this is thoroughly mixed with the plaster the coulour becomes uniforn throughout so cracks and holes will look realistic
@@DiggerEvans No problem, you're welcome!🤝🏻 I also have a bit of experience with the cracks in my own old compound but it just didn't work out the way I wanted it to...🙄 I still need to put some paint on and weather the proposed road as it's supposed to be an old American country road ... My main problem is that I have to buy all this stuff online because I can't buy any of it directly in my area, so I have to plan carefully what materials I actually need. Well, we will see... one fine day... in the near... or further future.😄🤭😇
Hiya David yeah I've got a road marking kit from sms, lots of different self adhesive stripes etc.. not sure about double yellows though I hate the things ha ha
Looks very effective Digger, can I ask why you dampened the area first? Simon

@@DiggerEvans lol, word
It's coming together now, digger although the building is covering borris's home in the background lol mixing the paint with filler is a good idea
Cheers Brian I di move the building back so i could apply the tarmac mixture, it will be visible in it's final place.
saving that video, really handy
Thanks guys
Looks like a good product may try that myself 👍
Thanks Gary much appreciated my friend
Really good, Well done mate, I opted for paint as I run the bike on it.
Yeah that's true this isn't nearly as sophisticated as your set up, great to hear from you many thanks

Hiya Kevin my friend so nice to hear from you, thank you so much, I do hope you are well

Looks good , few white lines maybe , even double yellow ???
Hiya David yeah I've got a road marking kit from sms, lots of different self adhesive stripes etc.. not sure about double yellows though I hate the things ha ha
messy but effective
It is quite messy but the results are worth it my friend
That Ak stuff looks pretty good , can you sand it ? What's different over the patch material you have ?
Yeah it's easy to sand once dry
That stuff does give good effect, is it slightly gritty
It is Clive yeah and it dries quickly with great adhesion.
that black stuff looks nasty to work with it looks really thick hope it turns out for you
It's marvellous stuff Dwight, give it a good mix and it can be thinned with water a little, the results are tremendously splendid
I blocked that person who looks like you. Let me know when you are clear. Good luck
yeah i will never get the account back Charlie thats why i opened a new one, fb wont respond to my concerns
Digger, I just received a message from you that I don’t think is you, if you know what I mean.
Think you will need to change your password again
Charlie if it has my picture on thd avatar it is the hacked that I cannot use, please block and report that account
Rusty? You? Of course it will be rusty
Ha ha you know me too well Chazco my friend, hope you're well
