    Wow! It's amazing that you see a need for the service to support women who want to start hiking.... I only wish it was available in California

      The Confident Solo Female System is an online, self paced program so you can be anywhere and in any time zone to be a part of this course. Even though I'm personally located in Washington, my program helps women all over the country. I even have a few students in California. :)

    Good info, and here is 1 bonus tip regarding water filtration. Be sure to put your water filter somewhere it doesn't get frozen like your pocket. Once frozen they are no good and will need to be replaced. Also consider bringing water purification tablets as a back up along with your camp stove in case you need to melt snow for water.

      Great point! This is why I always have water purification tablets in my backpacking first aid kit. I used to use a water bladder as part of my water filtration system and one time while out snowshoeing, the tube froze on me. That was quite the lesson!

    Super helpful information! Thanks for sharing all the planning info, I think it’s one of the hardest/most important parts of backpacking in winter conditions

    • @TheHungryHiker
      @TheHungryHiker  Před rokem +1

      Agreed! Trip planning for ANY trip in the backcountry can be stressful and intimidating, especially when you're trying to plan something during the winter. It's certainly not impossible to plan something in the winter. There are just more things to consider and think about when putting a trip together during the colder months.

    I absolutely love that you have created these classes!! You are so knowledgeable about the trails and I would absolutely love to join one of your classes to get more confident on the hikes I would love to go on. I know you live here in Washington and so do I in the Tacoma area so meeting at one of these trails is nothing! I will definitely be looking into joining your classes and to meet youu!!🥰

    Protect your electronic. Battery drains faster in cold weather. I had a long 2.5 miles back to my car once, thankfully no sidetrails to accidentally end up on. Another time when was just 10 minutes from my car when I wasn't on a full on hike.

      The temperature fluctuations can actually make winter hiking pretty challenging. You don't want to wear so many layers that you sweat, but you also want to wear enough clothes to keep you warm when it's cold out. It also depends on where you're hiking. Winter hiking doesn't just mean hiking in the snow either. It gets warm here occasionally throughout the winter up here in PNW. The big takeaway here is to be prepared for anything that winter might throw your way.
