These are the Saleen SN95 Mustangs of the Saleen Club of America Nationals show in Ocala Florida.

1996 Saleen s281 speedster owner. Back then the mustang community was still fixated on drag racing and straight line performance, most having little to no idea why Saleen's were sold at such a high premium. They didn't know Saleen's were build for track performance. Their Dna breed from scca and pro endurance racing lineage. Long before people were even thinking about the track, Saleens were Mustangs that had little to no relation to ford stock performance, These mustangs drove as good if not better than the best of them from Europe back then, and till this day, measurable to some of todays track performance legends. And thats without active suspension. You could call the saleens the Fathers of the modern Shelby's as it was Steve Saleen who took the baton with Mustang and GT racing long after Shelby got out the pro racing game. And little known is that Saleen took the Mustang back to Lemans in 1997, the same year the Mclaren F1 debuted. Just think about it for a sec, Saleen Mustang competed at Lemans with the likes of the Mclaren F1, which means they met that high level of performance to qualify for the event and series. it also ment being capable of over 200mph down the mulsane straight. i just sold my 96 #220 its a great car. i really liked it. drives nice, its comfortable and feels solid. that 4.6 engine is great but, its not a performace engine. after a while it just doesnt fill the need for performance. my mini cooper jcw felt faster and of course lighter. so did my 91 mr2 turbo and my 88 foxbody saleen #329. its a beautiful car but you can do better with other cars including other saleens.
I would agree with your view of the 4.6. The 96-98 4.6 SOHC cars were abysmal for performance. Save for the 4 valve cars the early 4.6 stuff was awful slow. They require power adders to even get to good power levels. Saleen did get the styling right from 94-98. That’s one plus. But the 351 was the Saleen to buy in that era.
@@PuristMotorsports It most certainly was. The S281 is that mustang with a little extra something for a little more money, even today. The looks are just killer! The money spent is for the name and its gorgeous looks. In my opinion Show stopper looks.

Never new Saleen supercharged the 4.6L motor on the Cobras, always thought the S351 was the only supercharged model in the 90's.

Do you have any idea of what the process was to order a Cobra Saleen? I'm just curious.
There’s not many of them. Saleen felt they had more to offer on the GT’s. I’d say it wasn’t any different than the other Saleen’s. There’s not a particular process I’m aware of.
