After this performance the Idols went into the studio and recorded an official version which was released and reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and also raised $155,000 for the American Red Cross.

Heard this song when I came home from Kuwait/ Iraq . I shed tears watching my daughter sing song . American Soldier is so good . Proud to be a U.S Army Gulf War Veteran. I would gladly go back if my country needed me in a heartbeat! The price of freedom is very priceless! All the good things Ethan we are blessed by God to have are protected by our troops.
