While I'm not a fan of random dangly bits on my sharp tools, I have used this snake lanyard with a diamond knot stopper as a zipper pull like you mentioned on practically everything I own. The flexibility and uniform size is ideal for me compared to the stiff and asymmetrical wraps like cobra. And it's always oh so very satisfying to cut off all the loud clinking clacking metal zippers and make your gear finally just be QUIET. Give it a try if you haven't already! 👌

I come here and I get it the first time I tried it; being somewhat dyslexic I learn by rote. Once I get it, it becomes carved in stone, but I have to get it first and you are the best teacher. I’m an Old DAV with memory issues and try to keep busy and the Audio from this was so helpful in me remembering which way to loop, the British Voice is just so memorable i didn’t have any issues and I will remember this without having to reference the Video like I have to on so many others. I went into the lanyards for my knifes like crazy. Bought the paracord, started with the snake knot, thought to myself "this ain't so hard", went to the next level of knots and....... went back to the trusty old snake knot which is the style of lanyard knots all of my knifes now sport... I simply couldn't learn the more intricate and technically more demanding knots... I simply don't have the fingers nor the nerves for it. And I do love lanyards. Not only they are aesteticaly pleasing to my eye (despite the fact they are all made out of the simplest snake knots with an occasional lanyard bead), but they serve an incredible role of making the pulling of the knife out of the trousers faster and more convenient. All of my knifes have lanyards on them except some oddballs that for some reason don't have the lanyard hole (looking at you Benchmade Osborne..)
After just learning this knot from this video and a little bit practice. It's super straight forward once you done a few knots. Here's some tips I've found. Melt the ends BEFORE you start the knot so rope doesn't stays intact as you go. for stability place the object in between some headphones .
This is by far the easiest snake knot tutorial I've seen on CZcams yet. The other ones make it way more complicate than it needs to be. I'll be adding lanyards to my new ZT, Hogue, and Cold Steel knives along with a couple of beads I think they will look much nicer. Also going to be replacing the cheap square braid string that came on my CRKT SPEW with a small snake knot lanyard using some Nano cord that I just got in my recent paracord shipment.

Yay thank you! I’ve been needing a way to make a pull in the end of lines. I have a sheath that I made a toggle for to hold the knife in using a Canadian jam knot. It could use this for the ends.
Thanks, very helpful! Excellent tutorial. I've done cobra stitch knots alternating the loop side to side, but I like the look of the snake knot better. I've also added a bead in the middle of my lanyards as Reeve does, and then finished the lanyard which sets them off and helps with a smaller knife like the Spyderco McBee. You can also experiment with removing the 7 center strands first. The cord will lay a bit flatter if that's the look you want, and is just as strong. Finally, what I've done on my last few is tie them OFF the knife, say on a hook or dowel sticking up, with the loop that goes through the lanyard hole approx. 1.5" long depending on the placement of the lanyard hole in the knife. That way you can easily take them off and put them on the knife as needed, or move them to another knife or multitool.

Thank you for showing us how to do this; it was simple and easy to follow. However, try as I may, I just cannot get it to look like 2:57. I think my clumsy fingers and/or brain gets the sides mixed up, so it just doesn't look quite right.
this is so cool! i did it on my Gerber Swagger (Edit: my Gerber Swagger got stolen so i now put one of these on my CRKT Overland Compact but the paracord has a little bead on it!)
P.S. Accidentally made the lanyard loop around the bottle's cap ring (an aluminium Sigg bottle), so I couldn't take it off. After spending at an event I used my subway ride home to re-do the lanyard such that it loops around itself and can be taken off.
Jon, this was very helpful! And I see that you tied this knot on one of my favorite slip joints - the Real Steel Luna Lite! I like your version with the contrasting dark scales and brass(?) hardware. Very nice, indeed!

I always use a 13 wrap hangman knot for my lanyard knots, but I may give this a try. Maybe use a bead on the tail instead of melting the cord.
