Thank you for making this 100 times simpler then the other videos out there. 👍
Outstanding instructional video! Thank you for being effective AND efficient. 😎👍
Holy shit, for 20 years I wanted to learn how to do stuff like this with Paracord for the knives I make, and have always struggled. Either the videos I watched were too fast, or the person trying to teach would talk and go on and on, about something irrelevant. You taught me how to do this particular knot, in literally 3 minutes, you sir, have gained a follower, thank you so much.
It's so dang easy once you get down the basics with some practice.
Thank God someone that actually repeats for the knot challenged ppl like me. Thank you👍🏽
Easiest tutorial to follow. Thank you. I've done it on two of my knives now. I used to hate lanyards on my knives because I couldn't get them nice but thanks to you and your amazing video, I was able to do it with ease.
As many others have already commented, this video has the clearest and simplest instructions of how to make a paracord snake knot of any of those that I have previously watched. I spent a few frustrating hours yesterday trying to follow instructions from other videos on the subject. In contrast, I knew exactly how to tie the snake knot after seeing and listening while the first knot was being tied in this video. SMH - it's really that simple?!?
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video!
Thanks Jon. Wife now has a simple but elegant snake knot letting for her mini and easily lost Swiss Army knife. Thank you.
While I'm not a fan of random dangly bits on my sharp tools, I have used this snake lanyard with a diamond knot stopper as a zipper pull like you mentioned on practically everything I own. The flexibility and uniform size is ideal for me compared to the stiff and asymmetrical wraps like cobra. And it's always oh so very satisfying to cut off all the loud clinking clacking metal zippers and make your gear finally just be QUIET.
Give it a try if you haven't already! 👌
After watching over half a dozen videos on how to tie a shake knot, this simple explanation is by far the best out there. Thank you
Hiya Jon, everyone of these CZcams snake knot tutorials seems to be slightly different; backwards, forwards, upside down and behind, you name it. I come here and I get it the first time I tried it; being somewhat dyslexic I learn by rote. Once I get it, it becomes carved in stone, but I have to get it first and you are the best teacher. Thanks.
Thanks dad. It also helps to note, this will still take some practice to get just right. It did for me.
You made this SOOOOOO much easier to follow and understand compared to every other video EVER made! Thank you so much!!
Bless you for making this video the way you made it. I'm SO BAD at braiding (ask my daughter 😳). But your slow and deliberate method while repeating your steps actually got thru my Neanderthal skull. Now I've got a bunch of nicely braided knives and I can stop buying the dang pre-made lanyards! Thank you and cheers!
Thank you for doing this Tutorial. I’m an Old DAV with memory issues and try to keep busy and the Audio from this was so helpful in me remembering which way to loop, the British Voice is just so memorable i didn’t have any issues and I will remember this without having to reference the Video like I have to on so many others. Semper Fidelis
Great little video, thank you!
Just made my first couple snake knot lanyards thanks to you!
Thanks a lot, I can now remember how to start the knot, and you have made it easier than any of the other videos I have seen. Great stuff.
I followed your instructional video and I am pleased to say, the results are most excellent! Thanks again!
Thanks! Just added 7 knots of reflective black paracord to my Milwaukie 6 and 1 utility knife, looks awesome!
I went into the lanyards for my knifes like crazy. Bought the paracord, started with the snake knot, thought to myself "this ain't so hard", went to the next level of knots and....... went back to the trusty old snake knot which is the style of lanyard knots all of my knifes now sport... I simply couldn't learn the more intricate and technically more demanding knots... I simply don't have the fingers nor the nerves for it. And I do love lanyards. Not only they are aesteticaly pleasing to my eye (despite the fact they are all made out of the simplest snake knots with an occasional lanyard bead), but they serve an incredible role of making the pulling of the knife out of the trousers faster and more convenient. All of my knifes have lanyards on them except some oddballs that for some reason don't have the lanyard hole (looking at you Benchmade Osborne..)
Thank you very much Jon, a great job very well explained and presented, my first ever lanyard turned out great.👍
Thanks again
Sam
I don’t normally comment on CZcams, but I’m going to here.
Thanks, this was the easiest tutorial video I have found.
Thank you!!
Well done! Easy instructions to follow. Thank you! Looks great! Just what I'm looking for.
Very helpful, I’m thirteen and very into bushcraft, so I added a ferro rod button on the end.
Much appreciated. I wasn't able to follow other tutorials on this knot. Your method worked for me like a champ!
For something so simple it took a few attempts, looks great once accomplished.
After just learning this knot from this video and a little bit practice. It's super straight forward once you done a few knots. Here's some tips I've found. Melt the ends BEFORE you start the knot so rope doesn't stays intact as you go. for stability place the object in between some headphones .
This is by far the easiest snake knot tutorial I've seen on CZcams yet. The other ones make it way more complicate than it needs to be. I'll be adding lanyards to my new ZT, Hogue, and Cold Steel knives along with a couple of beads I think they will look much nicer. Also going to be replacing the cheap square braid string that came on my CRKT SPEW with a small snake knot lanyard using some Nano cord that I just got in my recent paracord shipment.
Thanks for the simple effective video! I made a lanyard first try:)
i have been trying to learn how to tie a snake knot for a while now, this video is perfect. short simple and effective.
Hi Jonathan, I've been looking for a simple way to do this for a long time and your video is brilliant. Thank you for your work, I'm going to view more of it!
I always use a 13 wrap hangman knot for my lanyard knots, but I may give this a try. Maybe use a bead on the tail instead of melting the cord.
Yay thank you! I’ve been needing a way to make a pull in the end of lines. I have a sheath that I made a toggle for to hold the knife in using a Canadian jam knot. It could use this for the ends.
Concise and to the point. Plus, I learned something! THANK YOU!!!
Brilliant! EVERY other vid I watched I failed to follow...I learned in 30 seconds with yours.
Now you, sir, have made my life so much easier, thank you very much for a perfectly concise tuition, champion as always.
Hey thanks! Just made one for my Bravo 1 and it turned out perfect.
Excellent short no nonsense tutorial. The far right loop part was perfectly explained
Thanks, very helpful! Excellent tutorial. I've done cobra stitch knots alternating the loop side to side, but I like the look of the snake knot better. I've also added a bead in the middle of my lanyards as Reeve does, and then finished the lanyard which sets them off and helps with a smaller knife like the Spyderco McBee. You can also experiment with removing the 7 center strands first. The cord will lay a bit flatter if that's the look you want, and is just as strong. Finally, what I've done on my last few is tie them OFF the knife, say on a hook or dowel sticking up, with the loop that goes through the lanyard hole approx. 1.5" long depending on the placement of the lanyard hole in the knife. That way you can easily take them off and put them on the knife as needed, or move them to another knife or multitool.
Thank you for that…simplest way I found to make a snake knot! Just added a 4 knot to my Esee 3!!!
Excellent, i love an instructional video that gets to the point and is east to follow. Thank you
Very cool dude, easy tutorial... at first i had the first knot wrong, but i slowed the video down and caught my error. Fantastic, thank you!
Great job as always. Simple, straight forward and easy to understand. 👍
Thank you very much! I've no experience with paracord but following your steps i was able to create a fob for my small edc knife. Very well done tutorial, easy to follow!
Amazing !
Great teaching skills 💪🏼
Thanks for the video 😊
Best tutorial video ever. Thanks.
My lanyard looks great.
Cristal clear tutorial! Thank you for the mantra: "over the top and underneath, underneath and over the top". Got it! Liked and subscribed ;)
this is so cool! i did it on my Gerber Swagger
(Edit: my Gerber Swagger got stolen so i now put one of these on my CRKT Overland Compact but the paracord has a little bead on it!)
This was awesome! Thanks for this great vid
Very easy and simple! As always pleasure to watch!
Thank you! Was a nice and efficient tutorial. Got myself a lanyard on my water bottle now.
P.S. Accidentally made the lanyard loop around the bottle's cap ring (an aluminium Sigg bottle), so I couldn't take it off.
After spending at an event I used my subway ride home to re-do the lanyard such that it loops around itself and can be taken off.
When you're right, you're right. When you're wrong, it's usually because you over complicated things. This video got it right!
Excellent video I just used your video to put a lanyard on my new spyderco paramilitary 2 salt it looks and functions amazingly
Thanks, Going to get some paracord and try this tomorrow for my new spyderco ladybug3
I'm a little late to this video, but, it is incredibly easy to follow your instructions. Thank you.😊
Cheers Jonathan. Great tutorial very easy to follow 👍🏻
Jon, this was very helpful! And I see that you tied this knot on one of my favorite slip joints - the Real Steel Luna Lite! I like your version with the contrasting dark scales and brass(?) hardware. Very nice, indeed!
Thanks for sharing. I just put a lanyard on my on my leatherman charge using this knot.
This is so cool and your description is good enough that i tied it myself right away. Thanks !
Simple and to the point, thanks man!
You made it easy. Over the top and underneath…. Underneath and over the top! Bam ! thanks
Thx so much John. I have looked at so many CZcams to try & get this & boom you explained it so so easily. Wonderful job...could you maybe do a tutorial with a couple of colours & beads? :)
I regret never going to boy scouts. I'm going to put this knot on everything I see.
It’s late, early rather lol and I want to try this soooo bad because it looks very good. Time for bed though, well done 👍🏻
Well done! Thank you! Great and informative.
Easy to learn! Thank you so much!
Nicely done. Thanks
Excellent video, made a really nice lanyard in a couple of minutes 👍🏻
Awesome, I did it! You really made it easy. Much easier than most of the other videos I have seen. Thank you sir.
Very nice look, I’ll have to give it a try. I picked up the Victorinox Compact, it’s great been carrying it and haven’t missed the Spartan 👍
Thanks I had forgotten this art.
My go to tutorial when I forget. Thanks
Super simple, thank you very much
Thanks for the kind tutorial. It helped me a lot !

Easy to understand, thanks!
Wonderful video. Great quality and succinct. Thank you!
Good to hear feedback, especially from those with experience of the brand 👍
Thank you sooo Much i just did my First Snake knot Lanyard for My Voctorinox Pioneer ♡
And the funny thing is my paracord looks Kind of a Snake its green yellow and black Pretty awesome 😄
Thanks, lots of videos on this, but it gets super annoying having to stop and run it back, this one made it much easier to follow.
gotta love a Garmin instinct watch, oh and a good knot to boot lol. frank from down under
Excellent!
Cheers, mate!
That made it simple. Thanks. Even though I was twitching like a madman because you didn’t put the knife in a vise or stop it some kind of way from falling over. That’s my only petty little complaint. Lol
Excellent video, took me a couple of tries but I got it down.
You’re the real MVP🏆
Ay Up John, been subbed for a year, love your content, thanks for presenting this. Also I've got impaired hearing & your voice is easy for me to listen too, don't know owt about the technics of intonation or how/why but it's nice to watch your stuff without subtitles.
Thanks again merry Xmas & be well ✊
Thank you!
Thanks Jon 👌
Nice video and awesome man cave you have, cheers!
No idea why I watched this, but it raises the question: Can we get this guy to make EVERY YT instructional vid?
